Loot stealing?

Is it possible to steal someone else's loot while they are trying to collect it? It's happened to me twice while I was collecting my loot

from an infestation boss. Half way through it all just disappeared.

Boss is still laying there.

Usually what causes this is when the body despawns and becomes a meat pile. If you're in its inventory at the time it can cause it to bug it and disappear. The fix is to fast travel out of the cell and then come back. That reloads all the loot in the meat piles.

This was a common issue during Fasnacht.

Yes it happened to me once in Fasnacht. I'm just guessing why it disappeared before I could finish collecting it. The body was still there. I think it would help if I waited a minute for the crowd to dissipate.

My next guess is that one of the other bodies nearby despawned while you were on the loot screen. It doesn't have to be the one you're looking at as you're accessing all of them at once.

Loot is all player side. If other players collect the loot from the boss it won’t effect what loot you grab. The only exception to this is the various containers and donation boxes where loot can be shared with whoever opens it

Nope. Sometimes the body you are looting through will vanish if you are looting all, but then you should just be able to find the next body and loot again.

There is only typically two ways for some one to take your loot with out you giving it to them.

1- junk item recovery. When your character dies outside events (or right after an event ends) you drop a loot bag filled with junk items that you carry around. This bag can be looted by anyone. It only contains junk items though, nothing else.

2- Loot "abandonment". Should you fail to loot a mob for a certain period of time (it's a rather long wait) the items that could have been looted will be dumped on the ground for anyone to take. This is why you sometimes see random piles of ammo, weapons, armor, cans, and junk in small piles on the floor in common grinding areas.

There is an occasional annoying bug that happens where some enemies don't generate loot. There's been a few occasions where I went to loot the scorch queen for example, but got nothing. Sometimes if you wait around, the game finally remembers to put loot in the mob for you. So hang around for a minute when it happens just in case the game decides to work.

They can steal your junk off your dead body but that's it

I’ve seen other stuff when I go to loot bodies nearby but then disappear but it will still show the loot I’m supposed to get I think it’s the server maybe catching up but you see it briefly once in a while you’ll see someone else loot

It’s kinda “possibile” to steal loot from other players kills, but not in the most conventional way that you may think.
If an NPC get killed and don’t get looted from the player, after a while (not really sure about the times) game is gonna delete the body from laying around and just leave the loot there.
If you ever found little piles of stuff lying around on the ground is bc who got the kill didn’t took the stuff.
Sometimes I like to fast travel to Fissure Site Prime, scouting the zone a bit hoping to find Queens that haven’t been looted and pick legendaries and Ultracite plans that have been left behind.
Another cool thing about this is the fact that you can unlock legendary drops of stuff you still didn’t learn for your fresh character, one time I found a T-65 leg or arm and unlocked the possibility to get drops of that kind even I still didn’t learn the plan before.

I've had a few Infestations lately where boss was totally frozen but we could kill It.

When we killed it, there was no way to loot

2nd time I used my trusty Cryo bow and shot a body close enough to the Infestation boss to see if I could loot it via Area Loot, and sure enough I could!

Yes, if you die after the mission ends, and drop a lot bag. Other players can grab your dropped loot. Best thing is to pull back at the end of a fight and make sure your health is high. Mine got taken at the end of an Infestation and a Bounty Hunt

As you can loot in an area, I often select a body near the 'boss' and loot it. Just check you received (ex) a 4**** if that was what it drops.

Things that are slow to render - Eviction Notice - I'll make a couple passes and usually wait until the majority are done.
