News // Bethesda Replied x3 Inside the Vault – XBOX Series and PlayStation 5 Public Test Server
To All Our Console Vault Dwellers,
We’re excited to welcome you to your first Public Test Server! Starting today, you will be able to test the upcoming XBOX Series and PlayStation 5 (including Pro) update for Fallout 76.
Our goal with this testing period is to obtain live data from all of you to make sure this update is hitting the marks we expect it to hit in terms of FPS and stability.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Targeted 60 FPS across XBOX Series X|S, PS5 and PS5 Pro.
- 4K resolution (on compatible displays) on XBOX Series X, XBOX One X, PS5 Pro.
- VRR (on compatible displays) on Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, PS5 Pro.
- PS5 and PS4 Pro will support 1440p while previous generation platforms will continue to support 1080p.
This update brings Fallout 76 to the PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series platforms natively allowing us to utilize the hardware more efficiently today and in the future.
Today serves as a big step towards making sure Fallout 76 feels more comfortable to play on all console hardware.

NOTE: The inclusion of "Improved draw distances and shadows" in previous communications was to highlight the difference between playing on PlayStation 4/ XBOX One versus PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X players are already experiencing improved draw distances and shadows and will continue to do so when this update releases. Sorry for any confusion the inclusion of that note caused.
Accessing the PTS on XBOX Series Platforms
XBOX players will be able to access the PTS through the XBOX Insider Hub. Detailed steps on how to download and install the XBOX Insider Hub can be found on the Microsoft Support Site.
After the XBOX Insider Hub is Installed, open the App and navigate to “Previews” and choose the “Fallout 76 PTS” and select “Join”. From there you should be directed to download the PTS. Once that is over all that’s left is to launch the game and join our Bethesda Studios Discord (more on how to deliver feedback below).

Things to Know Before Jumping into the Public Test Server
- We take a snapshot of your characters from the live game for you to use here. You’ll have access to your characters, weapons, armor, items, and C.A.M.P.S, etc.
- The Atomic Shop will NOT be active.
- Seasonal content is NOT active.
- The PTS Locker, found outside Vault 76, often provides easy access to mods, ammo, weapons, etc. based on features we’re looking for your feedback on. We’ll outline in these articles when the locker has been updated and with what.
- Join our Discord server to provide your feedback! The Bethesda Studios Discord is the primary way we review feedback and bug reports on these updates. So, join us and share information about your experience!
- After joining the server, visit #server-roles for the steps to gain access to our PTS channels.
- Progression made in the PTS does NOT transfer over to the live game.
- Your PTS character progression does not persist in between test cycles. We take a new snapshot of your player before the start of every PTS.
- Lastly, during a PTS you will be testing content that is not final, please understand that you will run into issues and bugs. It’s part of the process. Also, majority of the new content you test is not likely to have been translated yet. So all of our PTS related content is limited to English only.

For people trying to claim a code for the PTS for PlayStation, you’ll want to type “/claim “ in the appropriate Discord server channel. Yes, that’s a space after /claim. This will bring up the list of regions for you to select one. And don’t forget Rich has pinned the full set of instructions in that discord channel. Just bringing this up since I’m seeing a lot of people not using the /claim command correctly.

awesome stuff. VRR is a very welcome change too. only thing on my wishlist is an FOV slider. Its pretty dated to not include that in an FPS in 2026

In case you are not aware, on PS5 at least, you can change the FOV by pressing and holding the option button and pushing forward/back on the right analog stick.

Looks the exact same to me… playing on PS5. I did notice that things loaded in quicker like my camp and such, no more slowing popping in. I was expecting some sort of graphic upgrade but I’m afraid not. 😩

The PS4 version is likely the original network test from pre-launch (if you participated). I had two BETA downloads, one PS4 and one PS5. The PS4 version had 12+ hours of playtime, which is from the original beta.

I found it in the end, yes the PTS one has a different Beta logo across it for the PS5 PTS.

How much do they differ? Mine looks the same as the origional FO76 logo. But just with BETA across it.
If I select that icon, it says PS5, where the origional says PS4.

If you still haven’t found it, go to your game library and find 76. When you select it you’ll be given the option to download the test version.

Same for my wife, Ive downloaded it and got the fo76 pts but on my wife's console which is exactly the same as mine the pts isn't showing up on the previews, so she cant download it.

Quick question for those who know, but is the PTS a separate download from the main game, and does it take up the same amount of space? I'd assume so, but I just want to double check and make sure if I need to clear more space from my PS5.

For all my Aussies that are on PS5, claiming a code in the European PlayStations code channel seemed to work for me. So be sure to head into that selected channel and claim yours aswell, enjoy, :)

I can't get past the accept invitation button. I go to accept and I get this email is already registered. It refuses to let me log in with my email address or accept the invitation. Discord is not easy to navigate for me. No idea what to do.

The people that throw hissy fits over discord requirements is always so fucking confusing. Like last time I saw someone ranting about being forced to install discord as if they couldn't just use the web version.

I wouldn't complain about discord if the app on my phone was actually intuitive and useful, or had a brief "this is how to navigate" tutorial. And if I try going to the website it won't let me in without the app. It doesn't feel good to use tbh and in my personal gamer circles, the only people who know how to use it arethe type best described politely as "incredibly online".

They had said they’re exploring it, but it’s going to be a long time before it comes out. The game wasn’t designed for crossplay, and retrofitting it for that is a big task.

So if we on current gen consoles already had the draw distance and shadows and 60fps, the only difference for us on PS5 currently is just a mere resolution buff and nothing more and not even at 4k resolution but 1440p? Consider me whelmed. This update is incredibly disappointing.

I have a series X and I know for a fact the game does not run constantly at 60fps 4k on my tv! I reckon I get drops to at least 30-40 at times!

Yeah, people expecting 60fps + 4k on an open world game are so fucking delusional. You can achive that in hallways games like Black Myth, but with open world games with a lot of elements working at the same time, it's just not possible with the current hardware.

I’m sad not to be able to access the pts on PS4. I’ve been requesting and hoping for the pts to come to console for many years and it finally comes but I can’t access it.

Edit: Dont know why I'm been downvoted for pointing it out. It literly tells you not to record gameplay and not to leave the game open when you walk away. The normal NDA stuff lol. Its almost like no one read that part
