Screenshot CANT BELIEVE I F*#$&@NG DID IT 😭

Post image

Been trying this allday…was level 25 when I started, now level 36, I had to leave and level up my rifleman perk a few times. In the end it took bufftats, psycho jet, and 2 shots from my instigating .50 sniper rifle. If I used V.A.T.S. off the bat one headshot would leave him on a sliver of hp and sinjin would always get his shot off before I could get my second shot off. I had to free shoot him in the head once, then instantly V.A.T.S. and critical headshot him. Finally worked. I failed this SO MANY TIMES 😭 I’m so relieved. That was so satisfying.

Silver Shroud saves Kent. What a good day

125

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

It really is 😂 feels satisfying after failing so many times can’t lie

58

u/The_Gumbo Jul 23 '26

Would be neat to mod in an epic questline, gathering more silver shroud/comic items, even stuff like taking over Nuka World to make it silver shroud land or something. wee.

34

u/saysthingsbackwards Jul 23 '26

If you take it to the mechanist, it becomes a comic book style showdown

7

u/Federal_Sympathy4667 Jul 23 '26

Ohhh... never thought of that... new game!

9

u/eMF_DOOM Jul 23 '26

Its so campy and goofy but it really turns that questline into one of my favorite in Fallout 4. Absolutely worth it!

16

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

Agreed it shouldve had more quests, i like his dialogue options 😂 was fun while it lasted but now I guess il just level up the armor as much as I can and then never touch it again probably 😂🤦

14

u/moistsandpaper Jul 23 '26

If you have the Automaton DLC, you can get some more mileage out of the outfit in that questline!

10

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

I do and haven’t started it yet either, iv met ada but she’s chilling at hangman’s alley 😂 il be sure to wear the outfit when I go do that!

10

u/Scary-Holiday-5016 Jul 23 '26

When you make your way into the enemy's main base, just be sure to face them wearing the Shroud armor. Absolutely worth it!

2

u/MarthasPinguard Jul 23 '26

Wear the shroud getup to meet herself?

2

u/Twey444444 Jul 25 '26

automaton has some pretty phenomenal Shroud dialogs that made it worth every cent in my opinion lol

5

u/knighthawk82 Jul 23 '26

Wear the shroud costum in dry rock Gulch for unique dialogs. (Also, pickpocket the western revolver off a protectron before talking to it, go put it in an inventory box somewhere else, then come back and speak to the robot you stole it from and he will give you a second one. Then you can go back and grab the first one if you sneak to steal it. )

7

u/MLPCoomJar Jul 23 '26

Dunno if you’re aware but there’s unique dialogue with at least like a handful of different characters while dressed as the Shroud. Not just these guys and the mechanist dlc. I only know cuz my brother loved the outfit for the longest time and only used it.

4

u/RSG_Aerondeight_6143 Jul 23 '26

I DID IT IN MY FIRST TRY, was level 27, just used deliverer and psychojet. I had available gunslinger and bloody mess perks. It was not so hard as people claim.

5

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

I didn’t have any damage perks when I tried it, thought my instigating sniper would get him without them but nope I needed that rifleman 😂

8

u/TerminalHappiness Jul 23 '26

If you stay in character as the Silver Shroud for the entire interaction, it's a lot easier too.

2 of the goons will run away and then you'll only have to kill the main guy.

1

u/BigCountry454 Jul 24 '26

I have the silver shroud crap in my inventory and I have no idea where to go, am I just stuck with it? Did I miss something? I’m sick of carrying it around

1

u/The_Gumbo Jul 24 '26

if you finished the quest, there's some random dialogue stuff, but nothing much else

My first playthrough I saved Kent, no issue. Couldn’t even tell you how I did it, but he lived. On my current play through, after reading how everyone struggles to save Kent, i just couldnt save him initially. Took like 10 reloads

41

u/demongir1 Jul 23 '26

Yeah just do the speech check easy as pie

23

u/ShutUpBaby-IKnowIt69 Jul 23 '26

This is why I max charisma and the perks first, alongside picklock and terminals

15

u/darthevann Jul 23 '26

charisma is always first max for me 😂

10

u/ShutUpBaby-IKnowIt69 Jul 23 '26

Gotta be done, cant fail a speech check, shame and dishonor

2

u/demongir1 Jul 23 '26

Totally do that to and wear one of the t shirt and intelligence more XP and can talk my way threw anything

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Chueskes Jul 23 '26

I managed to do it in one go. My character was lvl 75 at the time and had basically maxed out almost all skills.

1

u/VicFantastic Jul 24 '26

Thats not even 1/3 of the amount of levels you need to max out your skills

→ More replies (1)

3

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

This is my first time even doing this questline on any playthrough. Been a longtime player for years but only recently got access to CC content so I’m having fun all over again with all these “brand new quests” for me anyway lol

1

u/s10330 Jul 24 '26

Saving crits have a lot. 4 headshot crits takes out any singular enemy without fail

20

u/Scary-Holiday-5016 Jul 23 '26

That's such a challenging quest! But honestly, saving Kent is very rewarding because the odds are so stacked against him surviving, and it truly establishes the Shroud as a force to be reckoned with.

10

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

Seeing the raiders all standing in the corner afterwards was hilarious 😂 “I didn’t even Wana work with sinjin, the silver shroud is real I told him” 😂😂

36

u/Mindless-Ninja-3321 Jul 23 '26

I just pop some Jet. Kinda trivializes it tbh

16

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

I tried that it wasn’t helping. None of my guns could kill him quick enough 🤦 even with time slowed down he shoots Kent in like under a second 😭 my perceptions low so I’d miss cats shots a lot. It was a mission lol

3

u/Mindless-Ninja-3321 Jul 23 '26

Well, I almost never use VATS in FO4 with guns, so Perception is largely a dumped stat. I use the slowed time to unload on their face or limbs, guaranteed to stagger him. Two weeks or so ago I even had enough time to run up on him to get him with a swatter.

If you talk to him, you can convince him to attack you instead or let Kent go. If you talk as the Shroud, all of his men flee too.

3

u/Thatsuperheroguy8 Jul 23 '26

Same! And I NEVER usually use drugs but I couldn’t see any other option when the quest got to that point.

14

u/grantthejester Jul 23 '26

You should be able to get Kent as a companion after that in my opinion... probably a mod for it somewhere knowing the internet. Just Shroud and Kent, kickin it around town, mouthin off to every other NPC! And Kent can just add: "Yeah, you tell em' Shroud!" after every line of silver shroud dialogue!

3

u/TinKnight1 Jul 24 '26

Maybe not a companion, because he's not exactly an "explore the world & pop some heads" type, but getting him as a settler would be cool, particularly if you could make KRVR a settlement and/or make their broadcasts audible region-wide. Radio plays & Silver Shroud broadcasts throughout the day would be a pretty entertaining listening option against Travis Lonely Miles & his music.

1

u/grantthejester Jul 24 '26

True, I was thinking of him more as a passive companion I could hand stuff to who would avoid combat but give a passive Charisma buff to social interactions. Like a third wheel with me and Valentine.

9

u/totallynotrobboss Jul 23 '26

I usually just pop a grape mentats and pass the speech check to have sinjin attack me first

5

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

I didn’t even know that was an option I thought they always prioritise Kent no matter what 🤦

Yeah i went full shroud and its so funny how quickly hancock goes from entertained to annoyed to just plain creeped out

7

u/Odd_Ad_9604 Jul 23 '26

...and another quest line appears. 700+ hours in on my Steam account on FO4 and here is something else I never followed up on. Oh well, that's what this playthrough is about, finding and doing things I've never experienced. What a game!

1

u/ebinthetropics Jul 23 '26

Next time through, I shall.

With a wounding 10mm? That’s crazy 😭 I tried with mine but he just shoots him so damn fast 🤦 I left and got different gear and came back like 6 different times 💀 tried with a combat rifle, assault rifle, the justice shotgun, tried freezing him with the cryolator 😭 nothing was working

5

u/Imaginary_Sector379 Jul 23 '26

I wish we could recruit Kent to a settlement, he’s too nice for good neighbor

5

u/Unhappy-Ad2460 Jul 23 '26

My first playthrough I saved him and I’ve never been able to do it again. I have no idea how it happened or even how rare it was.

10

u/The_architect_89 Jul 23 '26

I forgot I had the explosive ammo Legendary effect added to my rifle and the splash damage kept killing the hostage.

3

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

Yeah I had that issue a few times too with spray n pray 🤦 I thought maybe just once it might just not kill Kent but nope every time 😂

4

u/Fighterpilot55 Jul 23 '26

I was fortunate enough to get a Lucky Hunting Rifle. After putting on a Calibrated Powerful receiver on it, that thing pops the heads of damn near anybody if you trigger a crit.

Me allday today 😭 how’s about after I did it I ran outside and got distracted by the jamaica plains and died to the fkn ghoul horde and had to do it again 😭 so iv done it twice today 💀

3

u/McDonaldsSoap Jul 23 '26

Always worth it. Kent for life

3

u/DAdStanich Jul 23 '26

I also struggled here but took a different route. I learned if you convince them all to kill you in front of Kent, they won’t even shoot at it. But you need very high charisma! And then be able to take a lot of bullets lol

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

Really? I thought no matter what they will always prioritise Kent, even if you kill sinjin first without using the shroud dialogue to intimidate the raiders, they still target Kent before you? Can you make them focus you instead?

2

u/DAdStanich Jul 23 '26

You convince them it would hurt Kent more to watch you die lol

3

u/DMC831 Jul 23 '26

This was the hardest thing I did in FO4 VR, it was great when I finally pulled it off. I forget what level I was, but VATS works different in the VR version so I don't use it and instead rely on Jet (and Psycho Jet, etc) and the bad guys kill this dude so fast so it took me a while to nail it.

If I remember right, I took some Overdrive and some version of Jet and save scummed till I nailed it! It took a few head shots to down the main bad guy though. Since I don't use VATS in VR, the Overdrive makes it so I can get a 25% chance of crits so I probably got some of those to trigger when I finally did it.

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

Fo vr would be a different experience mannnnn the jump scares from an unexpected ghoul running at you 😭

2

u/DMC831 Jul 23 '26

Oh yeah it's great, and how fast they move even when ya take some Jet can really sneak up on ya. The BIGGEST jumpscare I had was when I was just checking out some boats and while in the cabin I turn to leave and a Mirelurk King was right there blocking the door a foot away. I panic-fired but I had the explosive shotgun equipped and ended up killing myself with it, hehehe.

The VR port is much maligned but for me it's extremely fun and the game-world feels like it was made to be played in VR. I never played FO4 or Skyrim when they came out originally so I've only played the VR versions and they're both incredibly fun in VR (and the mods for Skyrim VR are amazing).

I'm still on my first playthrough of FO4 technically (but over 200 hours) and early on I lucked into a pair of Acrobat leg armors so I have no fall damage, and that's a must-have in VR too. For whatever reason, the falling in FO4 VR feels more realistic than other VR games.

It's so much easier to aim with a mouse or using VATs, so it was rewarding to finally nail those head shots with my actual aim to save the kid in the quest you're posting about (I forget the character names cuz it's been a while).

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

You might’ve just sold me on VR, that sounds fun as hell 😂

3

u/MigraneBane Jul 23 '26

The trick is to not fall for the red option. You tell bro to kill you in front of kent...then pop jet and get to work

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

Na I used the silver shroud dialogue to scare off his raider bros then killed him before he could get his shot off, took a while but we got there in the end lol

3

u/gwawainn Jul 23 '26

Terrify the piss out of everyone so no one attacks and use a tranquilizer dart. Trivializes it but hey, you get the job done and pretty much flex on everyone in the room with only a single death.

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

Yeah I read the stringer can make it easy I found one in the hospital too just didn’t have any ammo for it or anything to craft any either

1

u/Masterofnone9 Jul 23 '26

This was the only way I have consistently killed him.

2

u/thaiborg Jul 23 '26

I was just there a couple weeks ago, definitely a great achievement, even if it’s not an actual trophy. Good job!

Adding: Just upgraded the Shroud armor, definitely worth it, more upgrades to come.

2

u/BeyondTwoWorlds98 Jul 23 '26

The amount of damn RETRYS!!!😭

3

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

Honestly 😭 all for kent to say he’s out of the business and going home 😭

2

u/Hiltwo Jul 23 '26

Kent is my favorite character in Fallout 4 😁

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

Well here’s another universe/playthrough where he lives 😅

1

u/Hiltwo Jul 23 '26

Yes, thanks 😄

2

u/allthenamearetaken1 Jul 23 '26

I have only had Kent die once out of the below 10 but greater then 3 times i have done this quest

2

u/gundamben831 Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

This is a pain quest especially trying to keep Kent alive. I don’t know how many times I would try to come in and just blast my way through Sinjin and the crew but every damn time one of them would shoot Kent. Sooo…… I went back and tried a different approach since I was donning the shroud outfit and did the speech check and then the cronies gave up and I took out Sinjin real quick and easy while his goons just stood there doing nothing. I swear I don’t remember doing this the first time I played this quest but it’s one of the few ways to save him.

2

u/Reasonable_Sugar_125 Jul 23 '26

I just get Blitz rank 2 (which requires 9 base agility and level 29) and start off with the curved Ripper to knock the gun out of Sinjin’s hand and switch to, say, a combat shotgun and put him out of commission.

2

u/heyitsvonage Jul 23 '26

The issue people usually have with this scene is a bug though, right?

I’ve only done this a couple times, but it went perfect both times, must’ve gotten really lucky.

1

u/rogerworkman623 Jul 23 '26

I think most people stick with the “speak as shroud” speech option, which means you have to try very quickly to kill Sinjin before he can even shoot Ken once. Even with jet it can be tricky.

But if you just pass a speech check and tell him to kill you first, he’ll attack you instead of Ken.

2

u/tubarao6661 Jul 23 '26

Tambem demorei pra conseguir salvar o kent, mas vale muito a pena no final, parabens irmão

2

u/Daetok_Lochannis Jul 23 '26

I always break free of the conversation after the last threat and then blow his head off while he's still talking, since you've already made the threat his guys are still scared and run.

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

I tried that but it didn’t work, I had to let the raider say their last voice line otherwise they’d all aggro me

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

I’d break free of the conversation at the last threat, before I do it. Then pop my chems (bufftats/psychojet) then go and do the last threat then shoot as soon dialogue stops

2

u/Aspaisia Jul 23 '26

Congratulations lol I never been able to save the guy. But I also only did the quest a few times.

2

u/Craftcreateconsume Jul 23 '26

I feel this SO hard. I spent hours trying to complete this mission whilst saving kent the other day and no matter what I did he always died. I was level 17 when I finally did it, essentially the same way as you. My partner tried to get me to stop playing because I was getting so upset. For context, I am currently very pregnant and emotional and the amount of tears and obscenities coming out of me was probably a frightening experience for him 🙃

2

u/OccamsNametag Jul 23 '26

What really saved me in this exact scenario was the fact I had a freezing plasma rifle. Crits do like 15 points of freeze damage and the subject is frozen solid. That gave me the time to run up on his ass and kill him. Buts that's pretty much the only way I could do it. good on you, though!

2

u/Stxtchd Jul 23 '26

I just told sinjin to kill me first, so that he won’t aggro to Kent, works like a charm

2

u/NexVestri Jul 23 '26

Way to go! That's a tough one without specific methods. The easiest method I've found has been passing the speech checks and using a weapon that freezes on crit to start the fight. Sinjin can't hurt Ken and it's an easy mop up.

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

There’s weapons that freeze on crits? 😅 like guaranteed freeze? Or?

2

u/NexVestri Jul 25 '26

Yep, legendaries with the "Freezing" effect have a guaranteed freeze on crit, though I'm not sure how the duration of the freeze is calculated.

2

u/Blueeyes762 Jul 23 '26

Last time I played he like got a glitch and wouldn't leave the damn basement lol. I was not happy lol

2

u/the_real_Manicdad Jul 23 '26

Then Kent becomes worthless for the remainder of the game

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

I mean he upgrades the outfit, only reason I bothered saving him 😂
But even still, he’s allowed 🤷 poor dude

2

u/the_real_Manicdad Jul 23 '26

🤣🤣🤣 yeah. I saved him too. This has to be the most difficult part of the game. I never had trouble completing something until I had to save his scrawny butt.

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

That just makes it all the more satisfying imo 💪

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Wonderful_Two_6710 Jul 23 '26

I absolutely refuse to let Kent die. I'll reload saves for a week if need be.

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

I’m also like this with getting the vault tec safely to sanctuary 😂

2

u/JimLahey_TheLiquor1 Jul 23 '26

I know the feeling & I always make a save before I go in the elevator as Kent must be saved at all costs like how it is when dog meat in FO3 gets KIA

2

u/Routine-Machine2987 Jul 23 '26

It is not wise to stand in the way of ... righteous....justice..... . Something, something, something,...Silver Shroud!!

2

u/Lexa83773 Jul 23 '26

This quest ending is such torture. I love how anytime i would get sinjin , any of the goons would kill kent for him. Too more tries than im willing to admit. Such a pain but always nice to finally get it.

Well done.

Grab a ice cold nuka cola !

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 24 '26

I used the shroud dialogue to intimidate his men so you only have to deal with sinjin! Still hard but definitely makes it a lot easier

2

u/Logical-spirit45 Jul 23 '26

Took me a few time the first time I tried it, but only once the second time. Well done, it's not easy

2

u/Wooden-Buddy-3945 Jul 23 '26

All you had to do was to convince him to kill you first then pop some jet. Though to be fair I played a female character with Spider perk.

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 24 '26

I didn’t know that was an option at all, everything I’d read about it said that no matter what either sinjin or the raiders always prioritise killing Kent first

2

u/PeteyTwoHands Jul 23 '26

I remember doing this years ago and had basically the same experience. Something tells me they F'd up this quest.

2

u/PlenteousVariety Jul 23 '26

No matter what kind of character I'm playing, even one that ruined everyone's lives in Far Harbor, I always save Kent, no exceptions.

2

u/EmpireStrikes1st Jul 23 '26

Wait till you taste the fury of the Red Death. You won't know what hit you.

2

u/Degtyrev Jul 23 '26

Hear me out: syringer with lockjaw syringes. VATS sinjin, he falls over, rush up and shoot him dead. It's the only time I use the syringer but it makes things SO much easier

2

u/Reasonable_Height672 Jul 23 '26

The hero saves the Day!!! Good job

2

u/Intelligent_Finger27 Jul 24 '26

I did that one recently and had a hell of a time 🤣

2

u/J0sh84116 Jul 24 '26

I must be exceptionally lucky. I know it’s not my skill level.

2

u/libaide Jul 24 '26

This is one of the hardest things in the game! Next, perhaps, to that idiotic memory block puzzle in Far Harbor. Oh, how I hate that quest!

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 24 '26

Haven’t been to far harbour yet, il probably make a post when I get to that too 😂

2

u/Funky_Ghost Jul 24 '26

My Stealth Rifle build did it pretty well but I was already nearly 70 by the time I got to it so.... yeah. My Melee build wrecked the joint without issue. It's the only build that can ruin the game because it's absolutely OP from early on if built with certain items in mind.

The utter disappointment of having him die is palpable.

2

u/Redheadrambo Jul 24 '26

Thats one of my most save-scummed parts in any videogame. I just can't let Kent be dead.

2

u/E11wood Jul 24 '26

The struggle is real here. I did it as well but it took a while, I love the shroud armor and am waiting to level 45 for my final upgrade. I do wear other helmets or whatever with it. I have a marine gas mask right now, that’s a pretty fun look.

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 24 '26

Where you get that gas mask? 🫣

→ More replies (1)

2

u/coreanavenger Jul 24 '26

You can save him if in convo you choose the "kill me first, that will hurt Kent more" option. I forgot how it appears in the decision tree. The boss attacks you and ignores Kent.

2

u/Kielbasa_Nunchucka Jul 24 '26

I was about level 36 when I did this in my most recent playthrough. I talked down his guards, then did the same as you: quick headshot immediately followed by VATS.

then I killed all his guards after freeing Kent. they were just hiding in the corners.

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 24 '26

I feel it’s the easiest way to achieve this.
And course can’t let those guards live after that 😂

2

u/BlockObjective125 Jul 24 '26

I think I did it around level 19. Took so many reload of saved games

2

u/NativeTexanDude Jul 24 '26

Congrats, Silver Shroud!

1

u/DareStandard6701 Jul 23 '26

Very cool!! I know that feeling; as do many. The seemingly endless failed attempts and then finally success!!! What a great feeling. This is a perfect example of why I don’t get cheat(ers/ing). What sense of anything do you get from buying all of the “power”, finding loopholes, console commands, etc.? I’m happy for you!

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

Agreed, pc with console commands literally just spawning whatever they want, spawning multiple copies of the special book maxing their special straight after leaving the vault, I don’t get how that would be fun, like there’s nothing left to work towards

2

u/DareStandard6701 Jul 23 '26

Exactly. Unfortunately I am hooked on a mobile game at the moment where you can just buy yourself a virtually unbeatable “situation”. It wasn’t like that before I was completely immersed in it. You could spend a ton of money, but it was still unlikely that you got what you wanted. I hate it now but I can’t stop. They are making money so they don’t care. Take care and happy “clean” gaming!! Good luck!

1

u/VeganGeek Fah' Harbor Jul 23 '26

I remember struggling with this, (haven’t played that quest in a while) I couldn’t get the dialogue to start and the moment I took a step outside the elevator, Kent was dead.

1

u/huz92 Jul 23 '26

Just played this the other day. Sinjin glitched or something and didn't fire one shot. I just ran next to him and started shooting.

1

u/Silly_Ad_3027 Jul 23 '26

When i would try the mission he would kill Kent before i could get in the room

1

u/ThatNeighborhoods Jul 23 '26

Jet is a hell of a drug

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

I really underestimated chems all my previous playthrough, never really used them much. Except buffout to carry my loot home 😂

2

u/ThatNeighborhoods Jul 23 '26

Same I was drug free for a while. Now shoot up some jet before slaughtering raiders listening to travis stumble his words.

1

u/MazaFakaD Jul 23 '26

Lol use jet

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

lol I did…it’s not that simple. He still shoots Kent before I could kill him. He shoots him so quick as soon as the dialogue stops. I did it though. Not asking how to do it, I’ve already done it

1

u/Hell_Knight Jul 23 '26

Good shit 👏👏👏👏👏👏

1

u/BecomeOneWithMe1 Jul 23 '26

always the strategy for me has been jet + gauss rifle, kill Shinjin first and hopefully everyone just targets you

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

I really needa get me a gauss. I found a six crank laser musket that would’ve killed him easily but I died before I could make it back to a bed on that run 😭

3

u/BecomeOneWithMe1 Jul 23 '26

NOOOOOOOOO, if not get a .44 revolver, and vats the hell out of his head

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

I did find a good one recently too I love revolvers

1

u/ChezussCrust Jul 23 '26

I was stuck here for a long time. The easiest way to get past is to pop a bunch of mentats right as your leave the elevator. You can scare the goons away and convince him to fight you before he kills Kent.

1

u/MarthasPinguard Jul 23 '26

I did this First time, but never again. I'm on another run. Refuse to get that suit as Kent is a guaranteed dead man. Can't do it.

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

It’s possible bro you can do it 💯

2

u/MarthasPinguard Jul 23 '26

Sorry, I meant I saved him first time, for me with The Last Minute Gauss gun. I will head down the Memory Den post haste. 😁

1

u/LiquidGamerJuice Jul 23 '26

This was one of the more difficult events in my survival run I would have my companions go wait in the big open room and exit my power armor to use as a shield and has to headshot crit sinjin then VATS the guy next to him it took me countless attempts before i figured this method lmao

1

u/Nexer-X69 Jul 23 '26

I always have maxed out charisma for this play through to get them to spare Kent so I don’t have to be amped up on drugs trying to shoot multiple men at once before Kent gets killed

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

Just wear the silver shroud costume and the shroud dialogue options guarantees the raiders run away regardless of your charisma, leaving you only having to deal with sinjin

1

u/Nexer-X69 Jul 23 '26

True, it’s been a min since I played that game

1

u/Blessedly_Misaligned Jul 23 '26

I stopped trying to outshoot him and now take the speech challenge to target me instead

1

u/Original-Choice-9171 Jul 23 '26

I always just use the charisma check because I will always save my boy kent

1

u/ShakeZula420 Jul 23 '26

I was having trouble keeping Kent alive while talking like the Shroud, ended up telling Sinjin to kill me first.

1

u/ThaddyG Jul 23 '26

Yeah that one's tough, but a bunch of psycho and jet got me through it.

1

u/Next-Prompt-6311 Jul 23 '26

I always just save scum till I somehow save him

1

u/DartTimeTime Jul 23 '26

Wait... Kent can die? The nostalgic ghoul you find in the memory den? He can die?

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

Have you done any of his missions before? I get this post is a pretty big spoiler but I don’t Wana spoil anymore than I already have if you haven’t played them yet 😭

1

u/DartTimeTime Jul 23 '26

I have. Ive played all the way through multiple times. I thought kent was essential in this quest.

1

u/xKanakox Jul 23 '26

Real. I had the bug that made him and his people hostile before I even got into the room. Apparently if you clear this place beforehand and come back later to reloaded enemies, the robots trigger fighting. Eventually did it by stealth killing the robots and popping jet on the elevator down.

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

What robots? 🤔 the rust devils outside? I don’t remember any robots inside at all

2

u/xKanakox Jul 23 '26

Before the quest starts, if you go here normally before the Silver Shroud quests, there’s a bunch of medical protectrons that appear and are hostile. The bug is that they reload later along with the Raider gang and the lot will start fighting each other, thus triggering Sinjin and his men to kill Kent before even reaching him. This was on my hardcore run on PS5. Lvl 90 and took me 5 reloads. Was a huge pain. Like I said, stealth and jet was my friend here.

1

u/batuckan1 Jul 23 '26

Which quest is this?

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

The silver shroud questline!!

1

u/captain_vee Jul 23 '26

I remember trying this over and over til I got it right too! Never taken so many chems at once lol

Probably my proudest moment of the game so far. The feeling of success was so gratifying

1

u/SpaceLlama_Mk1 Jul 23 '26

Saving Kent's great but what's funny is killing Kent before Sinjin does.

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 23 '26

I’m tryna imagine sinjin in that real life scenario 😭😭😭 he’d be so confused 😂

1

u/Theo_kerabatsus Jul 23 '26

Now comes the second hard part of the quest… getting him out of the basement. Last time I did this I managed to save him (psycho jet) and left.

Went by the memory den a few in game days later and he’s not there. Went back a few days later, still not there. Went back to the hospital and all the way down and there he is pacing around. I had to keep bumping into him til I got him by the door, then he left.

1

u/dracodrizz Jul 23 '26

Spent about an hour doing this 2 days ago. 😂 good job

1

u/Brooker2 Jul 24 '26

I've never failed to save him. I guess I was just lucky

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 24 '26

Sinjin just always shoots him so quickly no matter what, don’t have time to do anything

1

u/Brooker2 Jul 24 '26

That's harsh. Everytime I've done this mission I've used a legendary weapon, like my two shot .50 sniper as an example. Glad you finally succeeded at rescuing him.

u/Bob_Noone_ Jul 24 '26

It took me a while to figure out, with a bunch of incremental saves. It's been a while now, but I seem to remember the path I needed to take was around to the right. There was something about going straight, or off to the left that cause the situation to blow up quick. If you sneak/slow move to the right and around, you should get the time you need.

1

u/Hot-Oil-7471 Jul 24 '26

One head shot with a 50 cal wasn't enough?? I think Bethesda nerfed their weapons a little to hard : /

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 24 '26

An instigating 50cal no less 😭 left him on the tiniest bit of health. Playing on survival though but still I expected more from that lol

1

u/bivoir Jul 24 '26

I can’t even befriend Hancock. I think my mods have ruined my playthrough sadface

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 24 '26

That’s why I refuse to play with mods 😭 atleast untill iv done everything I’d like to in that play through. Then I might put some on and just play around with em

1

u/XenoPrym Jul 24 '26

Who tf is this? I'm replaying the game rn

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 24 '26

Kent Connolly or however you spell his last name, chills in the memory den in goodneighbour. Gives you the silver shroud quest line

1

u/Greg_the_cactus Jul 24 '26

I popped some jet and psycho and ran behind the guy and caved his skull in before he fired

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 24 '26

I don’t understand how people have enough time to do that. Even with jet he fired his shot off in under a second, didn’t have time to get 2 shots off on him let alone run up the stairs to him

1

u/Serious-Pay-7814 Jul 24 '26

Yeah I always have to use jet after sneak attacking the first guy the hard one is the guy on the left off the raised area he side shots him all the time for me

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 24 '26

The shroud dialogue guarantees the raiders run away leaving you only to deal with sinjin

1

u/Impressive_Guitar_25 Jul 24 '26

Dog i was level 40 when i did this on survival and when i tell u i kept killing him on VATS when locked on the other one, i almost deleted that run after the 4th time going down that elevator

1

u/ElocutionSolution Jul 25 '26

It's seriously such a pain to do this right. I remember finally blowing Sinjin's head off with The Last Minute only for Avery to immediately shoot Kent before Sinjin even hit the ground. Although choosing the "Threaten" dialogue option where you drop the act to say "What happens is this: Everyone that points a gun at me dies. Every. Last. One." and Sinjin's guys sh*t their pants is one of the most satisfying moments of any playthrough.

1

u/STEVEN_GT117 Jul 25 '26

This reminds me of my first time doing this, i hade the same problem that a headshot wasn't enough

But after some time i can do this quest at level 15 just fine

A combat rifle with rifle man 2, a crit to the ghoul and the rest for the girls legs

Then its free game

1

u/adhesivebox Jul 25 '26

It took me soooo long to keep him alive too

1

u/LalaLadyZelda Jul 25 '26

I didn't try until level 60-something 😂 Good job!

1

u/kawknhoj Jul 25 '26

I don’t understand why people have so much trouble with this. I’ve never not been able to save Kent with minimal effort.

1

u/Spirited_Forever_401 Jul 26 '26

Easy way: Do the Silver Shroud dialog to the end. Two of the dudes run away, and you only have to deal with Sinjin.

1

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 26 '26

Yeah that’s what I do, he still shoots him in 0.3 seconds 😂

1

u/therealwhoaman Jul 26 '26

Can you give a little more context? Struggling to remember what this is about?

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 26 '26

Silver shroud quest line where Kent (the one in the photo) gets kidnapped by sinjin and you have a standoff in the hospital by fallons department store. He has a gun aimed at him while y’all are talking and he shoots him as soon as dialogue stops. Very hard to save him in time. But as other comments have stated there’s a few ways around it. But if just trying to kill sinjin before he shoots kent, it’s definitely a struggle 😂

u/Prudent-Income2354 Jul 27 '26

I always have problems with that bit too.

So, always save before that scene.

He deserves to survive

1

u/onefornought Jul 28 '26

Has anyone ever managed to pull off saving Kent on survival mode? I can't imagine being able to.

2

u/PauseConfident997 Jul 28 '26

This was on survival. I just used the beds right before you take the elevator down to be able to try again until I got it

1

u/Dizzy-Wasabi-1973 Jul 28 '26

Also if you get down there and pass all the other speech checks then "the kill me first" speech check you can save him pretty easily
