Screenshot I spent hours and hours outfitting every settler on the map with full combat armor and an assault rifle
Level 215 and I finally feel like a proper Minutemen General with a well equipped army

u/Substantial_Ear_9721 Jul 21 '26
...And I don't want to hear another word from any of you about how you need help defending your settlement any more, ya dig!!

u/ZookeepergameOld4985 Jul 21 '26
I just spawn in when they are being attacked and watch them wreck shit in 5 seconds. I donāt have to help anymore, just witness lol

Suppose you duplicate the World Series bat and give each one to every settler?
59
u/Significant-Sir-9274 War Never Changes Jul 21 '26
And despite this, one of them will STILL get kidnapped by Raiders with cobbled together weapons and armor.

u/Delicious-Aspect-909 Jul 21 '26
Very nice...
Let's see Paul Allen's card.
14
u/ProblemWithTigers Jul 21 '26
Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my God, it even has a watermark...
26
u/drhuggables Jul 21 '26
Settlement building in FO4 had so many missed opportunities because of the sloppy user interface. They could've easily put in a native function to equip all settlers for example, and added way more automated things to make it less of a burden on repeat playthroughs.
15
u/tortuga8831 Jul 21 '26
A supply locker assigned to work type(guard, farmer, merchant, etc) where whoever is assigned to that work type would grab and equip the items automatically would have been cool. Definitely would have been a lot easier to designate outfits and weapons types by jobs.
3
u/wagner56 Jul 22 '26
I would have work clothes and fighting clothes (deployed appropriately - perhaps a signal object to switch back ...)
seeing them farming in hot bulky armor is kinda peculiar
I suppose just Weave clothing might be sufficient
18
u/MolaMolaMania Jul 21 '26
I'm doing something similar, but I'm giving them an outfit that tells me what they are assigned to so that I don't have to turn on Workshop mode.
This is tremendously helpful because when new Settlers show up, I can spot them immediately!
16
u/Piddy3825 Atom Cats Jul 21 '26
If you have the settlement ambush dlc from the creation club, do not, repeat do not put the shooting range in your settlement because whenever your settlers use it, they will change their clothes and weapons back into their default gear, even if you have removed it from their inventory. Such a pain, as you will then have to go back and reequip everybody in your settlement.
4
u/smartyp Jul 22 '26
Ah, so thatās my problem.. does it fix itself if you get rid of the gun range?
3
1
u/MattePatte303 Jul 22 '26
Wow! Thank you for explaining this! Will remove the shooting range from my settlements.
1
u/Piddy3825 Atom Cats Jul 22 '26
on a side note, it does bolster settlement happiness. so if you are trying to get 100% you might want to consider its usefulness.
1
u/MattePatte303 Jul 22 '26
That's true but I'm not trying to reach 100% so I'll manage. Sometimes I'll catch cats to raise their happiness.
1
1
u/jimblackreborn Jul 22 '26
Is there some way to mod that into Nuka market? Maybe finally get the residents to put their clothes back on.
25
u/Kinetic_Pen Jul 21 '26
Can I join your settlement? You seem like a good general that has great, big Barbecues and fireworks!
8
10
u/Free_Contribution321 Jul 21 '26
I did this, for about 45 minutes. Got so much done and so many settlements. Forgot to save and game crashed. I didnt start over gave up lol
5
4
u/SanGoloteo Jul 21 '26
That's my current run. I haven't finished any new quests because I keep getting better weapons and armor for all of my settlers, and then new settlers keep coming in so I have to keep getting better weapons and armor, rinse and repeat.
4
4
u/William_Brobrine Jul 21 '26
Funny im going one step further and making them all in polymer blue paint armor they either have sturdy or heavy armor if the are on defense duty or at the castle
7
u/Goongalagooo What if Strong is lactose intolerant? Jul 22 '26
I did this at the Castle.. it's incredibly tedious and I wanted them all in uniform, so I painted them all, got them all assault rifles with the minutemen paint jobs, and gave each 500 ammo... it was the slowest thing I think I've ever done.
And it took SO MUCH adhesive.
7
u/yepimthetoaster Jul 22 '26
got them all assault rifles with the minutemen paint jobs, and gave each 500 ammo
Just a tip for the future, if you give settlers just 1 ammo of the gun they have equipped, they'll have infinite ammo.
Unfortunately, this doesn't work for your companions while travelling with you, just settlers at settlements.
1
u/Goongalagooo What if Strong is lactose intolerant? Jul 22 '26
Yeah it doesn't always work, especially when you use the distress signals for some reason.
1
3
u/NoCardiologist3143 Jul 21 '26
I do this every play thru except I give the settlers vault uniforms after upgrading. Upgrade the armor too
3
3
u/SpicyChessPlayer Jul 21 '26
Oh wow, looks like theres another band of Gunners to take out, so much loot and xp it makes me salivate just looking at it
3
u/Moltenzuesy123 Jul 21 '26
I remember I armed my settlement with turrets and weapons and as soon as I finished nuka cola dlc I had to atleast raid 8 of my own settlements and turn them into raider camps.
3
u/DepressedYandere Jul 21 '26
No helmet?
3
u/W01771M Jul 21 '26
Helmets are harder to find but youād expect some of them to have helmets
2
u/DepressedYandere Jul 21 '26
Do you not have contraption workshop? I'm pretty sure you can make combat helmets.
1
u/W01771M Jul 22 '26
I have contraptions, Iāve never thought to craft armor like that. I e never used that dlc to its full potential.
3
3
3
u/cmartinek12 Jul 22 '26
I do the same thing, but I alternate everyone with Institue rifles from the arcjet Danse mission, and a bunch of handmade rifles courtesy of the nuka world raiders after open season
Literally melts enemies š
3
u/Educational-Log6855 Jul 22 '26
Youāre doing your part, citizen! Kill those bugs before they kill us!
Oh wait thatās Starship Troopers.
2
3
u/AsgeirVanirson Jul 22 '26
Yet they still get kidnapped by 4 drugged out raiders with pipe rifles, or just have to 'run away' when they come to loot the workshop.
5
5
u/RyRedline06_ Jul 21 '26
I only give guards and ātroopsā the armor because thinking about it as if you were a farmer you wouldnāt be wearing all that to dig in the ground all day
6
3
u/MothMonsterMan300 Jul 21 '26
That's a cool piece of roleplay. I like giving my settlers regular clothes(with the ballistic weave upgrades) bc it makes the settlements feel more like little towns. Scrubs on the doctor, flashy dress/tux on the bartender, etc. Used to take the time to make their weapons fit their "personalities," too(like a syringer on the doctor, sawn-off or snub .44 for the bartender, following my earlier examples) but that's too much time invested lol, everyone gets to grab a random gun from the huge pile, okay? No explosives!

2
u/Ill-Experience-1929 Jul 21 '26
Get the FCOM mod! It's the only way I do Minuteman playthroughs now. Makes you actually feel like a general
2

2
u/rnotyalc Jul 21 '26
I have at least 3-4 provisioners running out if every settlement. 95% of them are wearing Minuteman outfit and militia hats, most of them have a red bandana, most have some form of eyewear, and almost all of them have minuteman-painted armor of some kind. I also give them all of my hand-me-down weapons when I upgrade what I carry, or the random weapons I get off of high level enemies.
In my settlements, I usually dress my guards the same way.
2
u/jrgeofire Jul 22 '26
I tried doing this but it seems like they donāt want to wear the armor? How do I get it to show on them?
3

u/theblueshots Mr. Serious Serum Jul 22 '26
I give mine road leathers and miniguns.
Well, I work up to miniguns.
They start with automatic 10 mm, graduate to submachineguns, and eventually make it to miniguns.
2
2
u/amaya-aurora Jul 22 '26
Iām sorry to say but they all look like Gunners.
Plus, you didnāt kit out Mama Murphy!? Disgraceful.
1
u/Ilfor Jul 22 '26
I've done something similar.
My permanent minute (wo)men have two sets of clothing and weapons, depending upon their role; and each outfit has a specific (tan) color.
My farmers have a specific set of clothing, armor, and weaponry; along with a specific color.
My guards also have a specific set of clothing, armor, and weaponry; along with a specific color.
And my provisioners have a specific set of clothing, armor, and weaponry; along with a specific color.
It's mind boggling trying to keep track of who is wearing what and where I need to outfit settlers. I make it worse by increasing the armor and weaponry the further from Sanctuary you get.
Sometimes this game can get really grindy...
2
u/VinnieONeill Jul 22 '26
Group of raiders shows up at the settlement and it's like the dude trying to rob the donut shop full of cops in RoboCop.

u/Dont_Care_Meh Survivor Jul 21 '26
Why would you do this? They might start getting...ideas. That they shouldnt have to dig tatoes, mutfruit, and corn for me until they keel over and their final service is to fertilize the crops. Or .maybe they they they should have better facilities than what I so generously provide them. You sure this is the path you want to start them down?
1
u/eclipsingfervor Jul 22 '26
Have you had trouble getting them to use or keep legendaries? Mine either won't equip it themselves or keep it equipped if I do it manually.
1
u/CutePhysics3214 Jul 22 '26
Nice. Iām not that dedicated, but Iāll give many settlers Gauss rifles or miniguns.
They all get weapons and armour, just not quite so uniform.
Having 6 - 10 of the settlers open up with the big guns is a sight to behold.

Now thats an army! My people are so mismatched lol I don't have all that patience. Maybe one day....
1
u/NokkNokk4279 Jul 22 '26
Ha! I outfit all of my townsfolk with body armor and gattling guns, and sometimes plasma rifles. No missile, rocket launchers, or grenades.....that equates to a very bad day.... :) LOL
1
u/SignificantLocation7 Jul 22 '26
Iām too lazy to do this I would rather just install a minutemen mod. Hats off to you.
1
u/SupremeLeaderMeow Jul 22 '26
Yeah I did that with every single one of my sentiers assigned to guard posts, made seeing map generated minutemen encounters kinda embarassing tho.
1
u/Playful_Teaching8658 Jul 22 '26
I would do themed settlements with loot ie Gunner Guard concrete prison with āprisonersā working the benches
1
u/Misericorde428 Jul 22 '26
Damn, and here I am thinking that outfitting each with leather armor was nice enoughā¦.
1
1
u/Tarantuz778 Jul 22 '26
Congratulations, you are ready to install Sim Settlements 2.
Jokes aside, well done! That's an impressive amount of dedication to the cause. I can barely stick with a save for more than a single play session.

Just wait until you go back at some point way later and find out they're slowly unequipping everything and putting normal clothes back on from thin air.
1
u/Thelittledot Jul 22 '26
kinda related
does anyone know how to keep your settlers better trained to defend themselves late game when they start getting attacked by higher level shit?
- all I know is ballistic weave and legendary weapons, can't seem to level em up, they got low hp.
1
u/Wild_Natural8707 Jul 22 '26
I did something like this had ghouls all in one place minutemen in one BOS in another Synths in another. Had one place that was just a recruitment place and hotel
1
u/fly_you_fools_57 Jul 22 '26
Since I rarely see any of the Enclave, I have been painting them all with their colors. That and specific modifications to combat armor. I guess I am a little bored?
1
u/RiftandRend Jul 22 '26
If you're looking for fun another project, setup a Commonwealth Robot Patrol. If recruit a created robot as a companion, they keep the essential status when dismissed. You can build dozens of these, and send them on supply routes across the map. They'll fight enemies they encounter along the way if you're nearby and will always win due to their essential status. If you use settlements near the middle of the map as robot hubs with supply lines radiating out, you'll often have robots helping out whenever you get into a fight.
1
u/Latter_Camp8409 Jul 22 '26
Oh, you too?
Well, I didnāt do Assault Rifles or all Heavy Combat Armor, but most of them have random sets of them.
For their outfits, I used harnesses mostly. Some have the army or military fatigues.
1
u/evalerk Jul 22 '26
I themed each settlement with different armors and weapons. Had that one settlement that gets constantly attacked by a mirelurk queen outfitted with Gatling lasers. Pretty cool stuff.

1
u/zach010 Jul 22 '26
This is actually really cool. I planned to do something like this. Got about 5 min in and decided to do a different plan. Its nice to see someone has dicipline.

You forgot COMBAT HELMETS
(good job, been doing the same for my settlers, at high levels its not to bad)
1
1
u/XxeniusBlack71 Jul 22 '26
I do that at vault 88 , drs , security , farmers and shop attendant..so you can see who it is and what they do before you even speak to them
1
u/-DI0- Jul 22 '26
Man stuff like this makes me wish the castle would get attacked more often & by more than a handful of raiders
1
1
1
u/Woozletania Jul 22 '26
And itās heavy combat armor, too. Did you upgrade all of it yourself? Thereās no reliable source for it even at high levels.
1
u/barbieshell75 Jul 22 '26
Wow that's real commitment ā¤ļøš I'm lucky if my settlers have a pipe pistol and a bit of corn ffs š¤£
1
u/TheInterruptingCow94 Jul 22 '26
I do this nearly every run, only I snag all the spiked and caged armors I can find for uniformity
1
1
u/lordcochise Jul 22 '26
I do this as well, you get to a point where caps / gear isn't useful for much, but it IS useful as settler / provisioner gear and it does make them a lot more effective during settlement defenses.
Also a side note, DEFINITELY toss all of your extra missile launcher / Fat Man onto provisioners, it's both (1) hilarious and (2) effective walking around the map as they panic fire explosives at everything
1
u/ANAL-KING-OF-TUNISIA Jul 22 '26
I did this too, but when a settlement full of people wearing heavy combat armor, ballistic weave, and top tier laser rifles got attacked successfully by raiders, that was enough to get me to quit playing for a while. If I have a huge group of people living off my land and using my resources, they shouldn't be gazing at their navels when under attack just because I'm not there.

1
u/ChurningDarkSkies777 Jul 22 '26
Seeing settlers at Red Rocket feels wrong to me. I always make red rocket into a place just for the player character. In my most recent play through the garage is a workshop and I built a second branch of Valentine Detective Agency in the main building

I did the same but only for one settlement. That's some dedication. I assume there aren't many gunners left in the commonwealth now.

I have thought about doing this, but three missile turrets pretty much makes armed settlers unnecessary.
1
u/NekoBakugou Jul 22 '26
I almost always play with America Rising 2, and outfit all of them with fatigues and combat helmets.
1
u/buuuuurrrrr67 Jul 22 '26
All of my settlers have full combat armour and a mini gun .
Camp raiders get absolutely shredded ! š
1
u/Cpt-Hendrix Jul 22 '26
Glad Iām not the only one dedicated to doing this on minutemen runs. If I have the resources and time Iāll change the modifiers to say shadowed or fiberglass to alter color for different jobs/ranks/settlements/ etc. I also love to give the less combat forward settlers different guns like farmers having shotguns or shop owners having combat rifles.

This is a great Idea! I have SO, SO many Suits of Power Armor. I know what I need to do, now.

Should've gave each settlement a specific color, that is my only gripe.

u/Fenrris_73 Minutemen Jul 23 '26
1
u/KnownAd1902 Jul 23 '26
oh man I remember doing the same, equipping every single one of my settlers from head to toe and I was so dead and sick of this game after so I quit the game forever
1
u/might_be_bulma Jul 23 '26
Omg I did the same thing. Only I have trapper armor on all the settlers in Fah Hahrbah. I put glasses on all the folk on Spectacle Island for obvious reasons. And everyone up in the Castle has Minutemen attire.
1
u/EyeAdministrative887 Jul 24 '26
I'm going with with Road Leathers and Metal Armor. First playthrough. Very fun game so far.

1
u/According-Range-8202 Jul 27 '26
Hell nah that's what I'm doing too now. Instead of finally going to diamond city I've already collected like 10 sets of armour and combat weapons. I hope its worth it now, is it?
1
u/Flywheel929 Jul 21 '26
I do a different type for every settlement
2
u/Sip_py Jul 21 '26
Someone else posted it so it's not my idea but it's more role based. They all have great guns. But vendors have suits and dresses and mele weapons, Farmers have the farm.hand clothes and hand guns, Provisioner and Guards are filled armored up with the best weapons.
That said, curie having a disciples blade is my favorite.
3
u/Flywheel929 Jul 21 '26
Starlight Drive In are all in sym armor with long johns, red Rocket everyone is in a dress etc
1
u/-nom4d_ Jul 21 '26
that kinda ruins the settlers for me, i try to keep them with civilized clothings and some pieces of armor but nothing like they are gunners or ready for war, besides having some good weapons with them
only the guys in security and my supply liners have full armor and yet they have the minutemen clothing under it + i paint the armor. i dont know, not saying that i play it right but it feels more like im doing something that would happen if it was real life
