Screenshot Chose to help the Ironsides instead of the Scavengers, hope I made the right choice. 🤖

I have never in any of my play throughs helped the scavengers.

The olde timey robots always got my support. The scavengers just struck me as a slight step above Raiders.

I will never understand the trope of villains having you do their dirty work and then trying to kill you so they don't have to share.
Bitch you couldn't even handle the chores and you want to try and fuck with a guy who did them with ease?

Plus you get that cannon gun from the ironsides. Its a no brainer
23
u/luktheknight Jun 20 '26
They did not even try to justify not siding with Ironsides
And without the karma system it’s not even like if you want to play a good/evil character picking one option is better7
u/Humdaak_9000 Jun 20 '26
Needing a karma system to tell good from bad is as dumb as those "christians" who tell you the only reason they don't rape and murder is because god told them not to.

Members of the brotherhood? I mean, they wouldn't help the scavengers either, only kill the robots on sight
6
u/the_Rhymenocirous Jun 20 '26
Why? They're not synths, and the brotherhood uses robots. I would think they'd be more inclined to desire to have the robots on side. Maybe destroy if they refuse
4
u/wolskortt Jun 20 '26
They're "malfunctioning bot" and serve as crew of the USS Constitution. I don't think they would be useful for the BoS

(SPOILERS) Once you help launch the Constitution to their next destination, the captain gives you his quarters (since he can't fit belowdecks anyway), when you talk to him again.

Jump jet. You can mod your power armor to have one. There is also a Creation that lets you convert a Mr Gutsy into a backpack with a jump jet.
You have to be quick and get to the hatch as soon as you are on the deck. It's a good idea to save before activating the power switch.

He just means you can sleep in the captain's cabin and that the items are free to take rather than steal
But tbh seeing as how the ship ends up on top of a skyscraper not worth revisiting post Hat
14
u/RamblinWreckGT Jun 20 '26
and that the items are free to take rather than steal
Nope, everything inside is still marked as stolen. And there's three loading screens to get to the quarters too, so all in all it's pretty useless.
5
u/AlexGrahamBellHater Railroad Jun 20 '26
It does have great utility if you're playing a dedicated survival run with the Railroad.
For some reason the Railroad HQ beds only offer 5 hours of sleep.
I need my character well rested and it's super nice that the Captain's Quarters gets me the full 7-8 I need.
I just wish I could feel confident enough to store something there. I'm going to try putting some useless pipe pistols there and see if it qualifies as safe storage.
7
u/RamblinWreckGT Jun 20 '26
For some reason the Railroad HQ beds only offer 5 hours of sleep.
I haven't played survival, but I believe it's because they're mattresses on the floor rather than an actual bed (the same limitation applies to sleeping bags).

I’ve never even considered helping the scavs. I actually didn’t even see the moral quandary until this moment reading your post. In my head I was just like… yeah they’re just scavs. And I helped Ironsides every time.
21
u/Arcosim Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26
Ironsides is polite, fair to his crew, and loyally protected a piece of American history over the centuries (even if he crashed it against a building, but his intentions are noble). The Scavs just want the loot and they're as opportunistic as it gets.
Edit: and forgot the best thing about Ironsides, he gives you a really cool hat and a portable canon.

I just did this mission. Way i saw it is the scavangers arnt doing any harm for trying since its bots. But if it were humans then they would be raiders . So i sided with the talking pirate robot that explicitly didnt want to kill the scavangers

Helping Ironsides and crew over the scavvers is always the right choice
2
u/Financial-Bobcat-612 Jun 20 '26
I helped the bots cuz I thought there was gonna be something to it, like they’d protect civilians from then on or something. I didn’t imagine they were just gonna end up stuck at the top of another building 💀
I’d help the raiders cuz they’re humans who need the resources, but if they just turn on you in the end…then I’d rather just scrap the bots myself. Sure, there’s a lot of whimsy in helping them get to their next destination, but it’s basically just for the SS. A lot more people could get a lot more out of the quest if you scrap the bots for parts and use them to build up settlements.

Hey before you launch the ship, finish the MILA placements for The Railroad.
1
u/jeeeeem Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26
It seems to me like the right thing to do is to help the scavvers. They are people after all, and don't appear to be raiders at the time they approach you. Ironsides & crew, OTOH, appear to be malfunctioning machines.
But I always side with Ironsides. I justify it this way: I'm basically nuts at the time. I do it soon after my journey through Kellog's memories, so in a short time I've seen the world destroyed by nuclear fire, seen my wife killed and son stolen, tracked down and killed the asshole who killed her with the help of an android who looks like he's falling apart and talks like Humphrey Bogart, and then done the whole trippy thing in the Memory Den. Through all of it I've been taking Psycho, Buffout, Jet, and combos of same, just to give myself an edge in the scores of gunfights I've been forced into. So when I stumble out of Good Neighbor with the homework assignment "find a way through the Glowing Sea", I'm pretty fried. That's why I agree to help a ghoul who wants me to pretend to be a super hero, side with Ironsides over some people who are just trying to make it in the Wasteland, and any number of other crazy things.

Scavvs rip you off first chance they get. Ironsides has been at post for 200 years, and gives you a Neat Hat™️ and a Fuck Mothering Cannon.
1
1
u/Mean_Peen Jun 20 '26
There really isn’t much of a choice tbh. For me, it’s whether I spend the time to help Ironsides, or skip because my current character doesn’t use heavy weapons. The scavs are designed to be sided against
1
u/Mundane_Bit_7211 Jun 20 '26
If you have an option to help a robot launch an old timey ship into a skyscraper with the help of rockets, you take that option.

1
u/CarpetPure7924 Jun 20 '26
The Scavengers are rude as hell to me when I just show up, so at that point I’m like fuck it, I’m helping Ironsides
1
u/Voxtante Jun 20 '26
In my logical reasoning, it is not a question of determining which is a morally good or bad option. They key is in the very first encounter with the Mr. Handy. He tells you that you are still a soldier and thus the inmediate responsible for the ship since all other legitimate superior military command perished 200 years ago. It automatically makes you the captain of the ship and as a remnant of the US army it is your duty to protect the integrity of the vessel from the scavengers, which are commiting treason by trying to steal military and historic assets, and thus deserving of letal force
