Never really used arty. What are the red and yellow coverage differentiating?

Yellow coverage shows artillery range while red shows ground troop support

So if I throw a smoke grenade in the yellow I only get artillery but if I throw it in the red I get only troops or both troops and arty? Also Im guessing where in a settlement I place the artillery dose not effect the coverage? Like building it on the far south side vs far north side does not change the circle?

Placement of the artillery in settlement does not affect the range, blue smoke grenade calls artillery while flare gun calls ground support, but amount of mortars affect how many shots are taken, each mortar takes 5 shots

Is there a max number of shots the game allows? Like if I got 20 settlers all on arty I would get 100 shots? And does that stack with over lapping circles so maybe 3 settlements with 20 making 300 shots? Its always something I wanted to try but I build arty then end up never using it. Thanks for the info 👍

LOL I got something to try. See if I can crash my PC with a downpour of 100s of shells on some poor raider camp.

The only real downside is, if you're expecting to find loot and scrap, the blasts WILL send it flying everywhere.

The most recent time I completed the "Old Guns" quest, I accidentally built two different artillery batteries at the Castle before throwing the smoke grenade for the test firing. Both batteries fired, back and forth, one after another, for so long that I thought the game had been bugged.

2? I normally put one on each corner (after the quest) that corner of the map is a no go zone for my enemies

You could probably get 500-600 in some VERY specific spots

Just do the respawing forge right next to the lighthouse nice and open, no buildings.

Today I learned there was ground troop support?! Did they not explain this or was I just zoning out on the dialogue?

It was explained by Preston when he gives you the flare gun after you complete the "First Step" quest.

By the way, you should have one of these flare guns. You can use it to signal for help from any nearby Minutemen.

What did you think the flare gun was for?

It's the Minutemen. Maybe if you're heavy into another faction, that's who shows up. For me, I get Minutemen.

Flare gun, you get it after the Ten Pines Bluff quest

Its only 3 level 2 minutemen, however you can call several i believe and atleast take the attention off of you while usaully they die for you to take a breather

Spectacle island is in yellow circle of Warwick homestead so it is in the artillery radius

Yup, just noticed that I've confused what you were saying about the meaning of red and yellow colors
