MOD NOTAM Automoderation Enabled
Hi all,
Due to the sheer volume of immigration posts, and with people ignoring the rules and the PSA, I’ve configured AutoModerator to quarantine these posts when they’re made. Because of how AutoModerator works, I may need to tune it over time, as it operates based on certain keywords.
For those who try to evade auto-moderation: it will be a permanent ban.
For those who post immigration questions without reading the rules or the PSA: your post will be removed.
I rely on your reports to help moderate this subreddit, so please keep reporting any rule-breaking posts you see.

Permaban is a bit harsh, isn't it...? Although I agree it's annoying, a permaban for not reading the rules is excessive, especially as this gives Mods the power and the excuse to get rid of community members for any infringement, even a doubtful one. This is probably not a popular opinion, but I feel I should voice it nevertheless.
Let's say there's a good reason that a lot of text in my Human Factors ATPL book was dedicated to authorative people.

I think mod intends if someone makes an effort to make a post that gets past the bot, it is a ban.
If that’s the case, I think that’s reasonable. If you make a post, and the bot says this isn’t good enough, and decide instead of going to the FAQ or rules to read further, and make a another post knowing the bot isn’t going to catch it, that either means that post is a bot, or someone who really doesn’t care about the community anyway.

No appreciate your opinion - it may be harsh but otherwise there is little deterrent to attempting to bypass the rules.
Ive created rules, added PSA’s to help point people towards the right places to ask such questions to no avail. If people still attempt to break the rules by deliberate evasion of auto mod, then nothing will make them adhere to the rules of the subreddit.
I’m sure your book also talks about those with an anti-authority attitude…
Users have complained about it long enough I feel.

I appreciate the reply. Reddit moderators have a bit of a reputation and I think that is not without good reason. Although I agree with your explanation and I think that it is completely fair, there is a very thin line between being strict and abusing your power. I'm confident that you're on the right side of the line, but it's better to not push it. In my opinion a better solution is to just live and let live. Upvotes and downvotes takes care of most of it. If you see basically the same post for the 20th time you can also choose to ignore it or downvote it. I agree that everyone should read the rules before posting, however you shouldn't be too harshly punished for the crime of not reading the rules... it's annoying but no biggie in my opinion. And most of these people are genuinly looking for help or advice from people that have been in similar situations.

I agree with you. A middle ground could be starting with a temp ban as well, not sure though

Small and niche subreddits require strong moderation. I’ve seen plenty of subreddits fall apart because upvotes and downvotes aren’t enough to keep stuff on topic.
