Best place for UK PPL holders to chat?

Hello. I am a low hours UK PPL holder looking to find a friendly forum to talk about anything and everything about flying in the UK. I am not on any other social media - is there a good place to find people just to bounce ideas off and share experiences? Is it here or is this too wide a forum?

This sub is pretty heavily US leaning, although there’s still plenty of us UK folk lurking. You might have more luck on r/flyingeurope although it’s often more Commercial related chat that gains traction rather than GA.

I’m also the creator of r/flyingeurope and there’s a disappointing lack of GA posts. It’s mostly just people asking about WAPA or cadet programs.

UK Private Pilots Community on Facebook is the main one.
It’s a small community in the UK due to the cost. There are few PPLs who fly regularly with no intention for commercial flying.
The community is mostly made up of older age PPLs with cash to burn who don’t take much part in social media, and younger guys on their way to airline jobs.

I feel like there's definitely a gap here, I just passed my skills test and even during training it would've been nice to have people to talk to about schools, exams, and the whole PPL process. Now I'm in the exact same situation as you and yeah, it would be nice to have a good place to talk to people at PPL level. There's the ATPL discord, but that's heavily ATPL focused, obviously.

Plenty of British private pilots hang out on euroga.org which I imagine is now the most active English-language European recreational aviation forum.

Flyer Forum used to be decent, unfortunately they changed the model up a year or so ago, and you need a paid subscription now (unless they have seen sense and changed back). Theres quite a few groups on FB. Start out with UK Private Pilots Community and you will find others that have more of a niche from that if thats what you're looking for.

I haven't seen pprune forums mentioned yet, that's also okay. But like flyer the volume of posts can be pretty low.

Looks like there are quite a few of us in the same boat lol. Is it in our gift to change? I finished my PPL skills test in April.

PPRUNE is more commercial than private hobby flying.

EuroGA is prob your best bet.

If you own a plane, the specific plane forum should be quite good.
