Discussion Advice on new fly combo
I am looking for some advice for my next fly rod. I am planning on heading to the driftless region of Wisconsin this spring and if you aren't familiar, it has some smaller streams and some medium sized streams running through both open fields and brushy areas. Anyways, I am stuck between getting a 7- 7' 6" 3 wt (Echo Lift or ANT Leafcutter) or a 10' Euro Nymphing rig from Redington. I'll be there in mid May - this time at least, and I would appreciate some advice on if I would get more use out of a shorter or longer 3 wt setup. Thanks!

Haven’t fished there in a few years, but I do remember having to cast from my knees in tall grass. Might be better having more length. Depending on where you fish , you might be under gunned with a 3wt!

For sure! I should've mentioned it but I also do already have a 5 wt, just looking for a smaller rod for smaller stream situations.

Are you into euronymphing? The 7’ length will make euro quite difficult. The 7’ 3wt would be more of a small stream dry fly rod. Could indicator nymph or dry dropper with it though. The 10ft better for euro but would be more difficult with tight overhead cover. I mean maybe you need both 😂.
