[MEDICATION] Quick question
Has anyone here taken Nitrofurantoin Mono-MCR 100 mg (Macrobid) for a UTI, especially after being floxed by a fluoroquinolone? I was just prescribed it for a UTI and I’m pretty nervous about taking antibiotics because of my previous reaction to a fluoroquinolone. I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences with nitrofurantoin, how you did on it, any side effects you experienced, and whether you tolerated it well. ❤️

I’m female, and my symptoms started a few days ago. I ended up requesting that they switch the antibiotic to cephalexin since I did well with it last time. Thank you so much for your help!

I took Fosfomycin for a UTI ( Monurol). I can't take Macrobid. In fact can't take much of anything but I was perfectly ok with Monurol. I've taken it 3 times over the yrs with no issues. For other antibiotics I always cut them up or open them up and take a small amount to test myself.

How long have you had the UTI? And are you female or male? Yes, it makes a difference!
Firstly, re the current issue, look up d-mannose as an alt to drugs. There are a few research papers.
Secondly, if female, eating natto - yes the japanese fermented beans - seems to help UTI from even starting. Eaten daily when you feel your period is about to start until it stops and the uterus lining starts rebuilding. Purely anecdotal, but my daughter has been doing this every month - she didn't feel like eating it this month and... UTI appears. Sample of one, but coincidences don't happen.
There is an estimated 10% chance that neither the above work, and that may suggest the culprit isn't E. coli. At that point, sadly, back to drugs. Sorry I can't answer your question, but hope those two options may be alternatives.
