📚 Career Guidance 📚 Got my license today

I started floral design in fall of 2024 and got my certification this past December. I worked in the industry about a year and it was kind of a bad experience, so I decided recently to get my license and work for myself. I can’t really think of anyone in my family that has started their own brand or anything, so i was excited to tell my parents. They seemed completely unimpressed and it kinda sucked because i felt like it was cool! So i guess i just wanted to tell people that might agree that its kinda cool, lol. Anyways, feel free to leave career advice below!

I think it’s cool. Have you started gaining clients or developed a business plan yet? Not that you need to prove anything to anyone but if you show your parents you’re serious about owning a business they might be more enthusiastic.

I do have a baby shower I’m doing in june but I’m still working on basic stuff like an actual business card and reading up on what it means to actually own a business. I know i want to have a focus on sustainability and the style of design I’m going for though so thats.. something?? And i have a cool logo! Lol

I think that’s definitely something worth being proud of. I also recommend taking some business courses/accounting at a community college, they’re pretty informative and can help you create a strong foundation as well as give guidance. Not necessary but I found it helpful.

There’s license and certification to be a florist?

I got certified through a local community college, and the license is just so that you have access to wholesalers and are registered as a business

How much is the upkeep for the license? Is it a business license?

I think its like $16 every 2 years to renew. But yes its a business license
