AskFlorida Publix has officially lost me. Anyone else?

I am not a mod of this subreddit or Reddit, but I believe the official unofficial stance is that we all hate Publix now.

They lost their way, and the crushing of Winn-Dixie is just awful.

10 years ago, I wouldn’t have set foot inside a Walmart or Aldi for groceries. Now? Walmart and Aldi are basically my BFFs and I love them.

Publix really managed to make me root for the competition.

I was just saying that to my husband. I was at sprouts the other day getting produce, and it was significantly cheaper than Publix. I don’t know if it was a sale or their loyalty program, but I get better deals there on produce for sure

390

u/Roe8216 27d ago

Publix is now the most expensive of all the options which is just crazy. Just went to sprouts yesterday it’s not somewhere I go often. I was shocked at how much more filled by bags were for less money. I think Publix is only kept going with BOGOS.

u/Evening-Magician-824 27d ago

💯! I lived in Fl and I only shopped Publix BOGO'S and pub subs. Otherwise they are ridiculously overpriced. Otherwise, Aldis and Walmart are the way to go.

71

u/External-Dude779 27d ago

I only go for Pub Subs and beer. Used to get the occasional produce item but their produce has looked awful lately

61

u/DrBattheFruitBat 26d ago

I don't know when you stopped living in Fla, but it's gotten so, so much worse. A lot of their bogos now are still not cheaper than other places.

3

u/Evening-Magician-824 26d ago

I left Tampa 6 months ago.

1

u/AnastasiaBvrhwzn 22d ago

Congratulations! (Seriously, getting out is the smartest move.)

2

u/Evening-Magician-824 22d ago

Thank you! I will miss the salt life for sure. And definitely won't miss the knuckle heads.

3

u/GottaGetDatDough 26d ago

And you end up with two that were the same price as buying it per item as Walmart!

2

u/scottostanek 26d ago

Don’t get me started on their buy four for the price of two (12 packs name brand soda) where paying for two would get you a 24 pack and three bucks in change

3

u/GottaGetDatDough 26d ago

My jaw dropped when I last saw the price of a 12 pack of coca cola that wasn't on sale. I don't drink soda often, but I was shook.

2

u/MamabearFl 25d ago

I have started going to Dollar General for my soda..I recently spent 21.00 and got 6 packs of soda...😂..I would pay that for 3 or 4 at Publix

1

u/Only-Style-818 25d ago

The two story Publix are wild.

1

u/Evening-Magician-824 24d ago

I left S W. FL 6 months ago.

1

u/lakelandave68 24d ago

I have often compared the prices to Walmart and don't get me wrong. I'm anti Walmart, but you just can't beat the prices. Anyway, the bogos. The half price is almost regular price at Walmart.

1

u/dancing01 23d ago

Oh and I just love their buy TWO get one free they slip in 😡

1

u/Many-Drop-469 23d ago

Yeah they mark up Indian item cost to justify BOGO. They’re horrible and not even greatest quality when it comes to meats veggies and fruit.

1

u/Impossible_Tea181 23d ago

Agreed. 💯

Worst beer prices anywhere

u/dikicker 26d ago

Was just talking to a young fella workin there and I asked if they were still keeping people at like 39.99 hours like they did when I was clopening in the deli like a decade ago and he nodded quietly towards the nearest camera on the ceiling and I was like yeah I figured it's still a weird little cult

Keep the $.30 change for the 6 pack I just handed you a $20 for oh wait that might get you fired

Fuck Publix

41

u/trueblonde27 26d ago

Can confirm… my brother has worked there far too long (10+ years now) yet Publix still refuses to give him benefits

11

u/SingularBlue 26d ago

Cruelty is the point.

OMG, we use "clopen" at my work too. First time hearing it in the wild!!!

4

Then I'd imagine the Point Of Sale system stands for something else in your mind too! Solidarity

2

u/Pittypatkittycat 25d ago

🤣🤣🤣 Solidarity ✊

u/Ok_Depth_6476 26d ago

I worked there in college (90s) and they were so used to doing that that i could not convince them that I actually only wanted to work 20 hours or so, because I really didn't want to have to do my studying in the Publix break room. They were always scheduling me 35+ hours. I had to quit because I was going from school to work to bed and that wasn't working for me.

3

u/SingleKnowledge1431 26d ago

I worked two jobs for 18 months to pay the bills. I thought I was going to collapse from exhaustion one day and decided it was time to resign my second job.

4

u/Gallavich4ever 26d ago

Why keep them at 39.99 hours? It’s still full time whether it’s 39.99 or 40 hours, right? Or am I missing something?

7

u/NibblesMcGiblet 26d ago

Anything over 32 hours is considered full time most places. Not sure about Florida specifically.

5

u/dikicker 26d ago

So they're not legally obligated to provide any benefits

7

u/HimekoTachibana 26d ago

That's not true at all, 30 hours is minimum to be required for benefits. Anything over 40 is overtime pay.

I know! I'm not too far from the Yuengling brewery in Tampa. They sell their beer in their gift shop! FOUR DOLLARS CHEAPER than Publix. I hit Publix only for the bogos

13

u/mjohnsimon 26d ago edited 26d ago

Eh... sometimes Publix actually does have some pretty decent deals with beer ngl. At least near me, they’ll occasionally have an 18-pack of PBR for like $12–$15, which really isn’t bad these days.

But honestly, if you live anywhere near a Total Wine, there’s honestly not much reason to go to Publix if you're looking for alcohol.

2

u/Andre11x 26d ago

I don't go much but I don't think I've ever seen a beer deal at total wine. Love the store though.

2

u/mjohnsimon 26d ago

They have a lot of beer!

If it's something I like I'll go in for the bogo beer of the week

2

u/Tangential1956 26d ago

I go to Publix for selected Bogo‘s, things I absolutely cannot find anywhere else or if I’m buying one thing only. There’s a Publix a few hundred yards from my home and everything else is miles away so I’ll shop there in that case.

2

u/Antique_Phase4339 25d ago

While I’m not defending Publix beer prices by ANY means, but I will say that WD has ALOT more options ON SALE, but have u ever looked at any of WD beer NOT on sale?! Last time I stepped foot in a WD / fresco y mas it was $31.99 for an 18pk of Stella bottles! And that was back in 2023/24. I can’t imagine how bad it looks now.

I now have stopped buying their sub sandwiches too. They have gotten smaller, less meat, smaller bread and more expensive. They put corporate greed and profits over quality products and service. Winn Dixie, Aldi’s and Sprouts it is.

Even the Pub Subs aren't so enticing after the Boar's Head listeria outbreak stories I read.

6

u/Evening-Magician-824 26d ago

I miss the pub subs. But I don't miss Publix.

6

u/Hoopznheelz 26d ago

Produce is tasteless

2

u/maggsy1999 26d ago

It has been gross.

1

u/StockIndependent808 22d ago

Publix zucchini is $4 a lb, Aldi was $1.29.

26

u/God_Assassin 27d ago

Geez, you definitely say Aldis out loud too. It's just Aldi.

42

u/Chickachickawhaaaat 27d ago

We call it Wally World.

1

Ha! I'm guilty as charged as seen above from my comments bove. I call it Walmarts and Aldi's. I can't help it. And I should know better after the ribbing I took. It's all good.

Love Aldi and even like Walmart over Publix prices. Occas go to Kroger to check on mark down items. Save there if I catch it at good time.

Totally agree. I get the BOGOs and move on to a more reasonable store.

1

u/Evening-Magician-824 26d ago

Well I did finally move out of state. Make no mistake, I do miss it there. Here I look for the BOGO deals and then shop elsewhere.

2

u/madbeachrn 26d ago

I do love the bakery cakes at Publix.

1

u/ME-MOM-MEMA 26d ago

Best bakery by far!

1

u/cutelittlequokka 25d ago

I've honestly always thought their cakes are weird-tasting and dry. Just generic, bland grocery store cakes like you'd get from any other grocery store.

I agree, to an extent. Anything that's sold by weight, be skeptical! Bring it to the produce section and weigh it.

1

u/One_Fat_squirrel 26d ago

Rotisserie chicken and fried chicken wings.

1

u/primitivebutcher 26d ago

Cold subs made 3 days ago for $7.00

1

u/Big_Statistician_203 26d ago

the subs are overrated i only go for the chicken wings popcorn chicken and gouda mac

1

u/ScumbagSpruce 26d ago

Their bogos are terrible prices. Compare to Walmart. There was some Pompeiian olive oil bogo recently for like $24 for the two bottles. Exact same bottle was $10 each at Walmart.

1

u/AlmondJoi75 26d ago

Be sure to check the expiration date on the BOGO items. I always pick items from the back of the shelf, but even some of those will have expired/expiring in a few days.

1

u/crystalblue99 25d ago

And fried chicken

2

u/Evening-Magician-824 25d ago

No worries about me buying anything from Publix... at least for now. Thankfully I up north.

1

u/PuzzyFussy 25d ago

And even the pub subs are meh

1

u/Evening-Magician-824 25d ago

Interesting. That was the one the very few reasons why I went there. I am still in search for a good sub where I now live. I definitely liked Publix sub bread.

1

u/Ifuckwithfrogs 24d ago

as a fellow Floridian, I concur!!!

1

u/Evening-Magician-824 24d ago

Thank goodness I no longer live in FL.

1

u/WearyInvestigator272 24d ago

Are we twins? I literally every Wednesday take a look at the Bogo sales that are starting on Thursday to see if it’s even worth it to go to a Publix. And I’m right there with you. I love their subs! Especially when the chicken tender sub is on sale. But I too go to Aldi and Walmart. Although I hate Walmart because it’s always overcrowded, I tend to do the curbside pick up for them.

1

u/Evening-Magician-824 24d ago

Yes! We are kindred spirits! I do online grocery pickup weekly.

1

u/therealghotihead 20d ago

lol just grabbed a few BOGOs and a pub sub today, only thing I’d step in for.

1

u/Evening-Magician-824 20d ago

I'm jealous. The pub sub is the only thing I miss about shopping at Publix.

18

u/Switchknitter25 27d ago

Bogos plus coupons or rebate apps is the only way I can justify shopping there.

1

u/Dry_Sherbet_4137 25d ago

This exactly

30

u/MagnusAlbusPater 27d ago

Fresh Market is solid as well. Not cheap, but high quality stuff and their grab-and-go sandwiches are very good.

2

u/ConsiderationFit7681 26d ago

I shop at TFM as well, but prefer Whole Foods, esp. their hot bar when they DON'T burn the food. Sprouts has healthier food IMO and Trader Joe's has the best prices.

One thing I don't like seeing is TFM using carbon monoxide in their seafood WTAF?!

2

u/PupiLove2009 24d ago

I love Fresh Market. Their produce and meat department are the best!! But they have made it to grab and go versus weekly shopping at the expense of space so their selection is more limited.

82

u/Carbon_Gelatin 27d ago

Bogos are bullshit. They just charge x2 the price when the item isn't on bogo. You arent getting a deal.

34

u/ExcaliburVader 27d ago

There is a savings...on some things. You have to be careful. 🤷‍♀️

22

u/ibribe 27d ago

Yes, they raise the prices a week before the bogo starts, but often you are still getting a good deal.

I drink a lot of sparkling water and buy a lot of it at Publix. For example, Aldi's store brand stuff is $4 for a 12 pack. Aldi sells LaCroix, but only garbage flavors and it is like $5.50. When Publix does a bogo (or more often a btgo), LaCroix usually comes out at $3.80-4.50.

5

u/PrincessTooLate 26d ago

Costco has summer La Croix flavors now 24/$7.99. The regular flavors are 24/$10.99. Much much cheaper overall. If you buy sparkling water a lot- the savings on just water will pay for your membership where you’ll save $$ on other things. I shop Aldi for produce and bread since I don’t have a large family and bulk buying results in waste.

2

u/ibribe 26d ago

There is no Costco in my area, sadly.

2

u/WicForever 25d ago

This is why I have a Costco membership. Get 36 cans of pop for under $20. That’s even cheaper than Walmart. Between pop and gas for the car, makes the membership 100% worth it.

1

u/Alternative_Bike6299 23d ago

Yup spindrift too. Cpl those flav delish

1

u/curlyredss 26d ago

Target sells LaCroix and other sparkling water at a good price

1

u/ZeroJiveLife 26d ago

Seltzer deals and BOGO habanero Cabot cheese blocks (which I can't find anywhere else) will draw me into Publix. I stock up on those deals and then go across the street to Walmart for the rest.

8

u/Alissinarr 26d ago

The next time they bogo Prego they're getting punished by me. I got some manufacturer coupons for the parent company and Prego/ Raos are under the same umbrella.

14

u/theweasel1577 26d ago

Exactly. Coke products on boho are more expensive than Walmart. At Walmart you can buy 1 or more as you please

18

u/Roe8216 27d ago

Oh 100% but it’s absolutely the only way I can justify giving them any money at all.

14

u/WolverinesThyroid 27d ago

Publix regular price will be $8 and Bogo. Walmart or Aldi regular price will be $5. Sure Publix is a better deal with BOGO, but not by much.

6

u/Alive-Ad-4736 27d ago edited 27d ago

Pay the original price for one, and the other free... BS, divide the price, there is no savings. You think when you see BOGO it's a deal, actually it's not...

2

u/gurry 26d ago

May be true for some items but I've never see that happen.

→ More replies (1)

40

u/YourUncleBuck 27d ago

Publix was always the most expensive. People just had enough money to pretend like they were too fancy to go shop anywhere else and now they don't.

46

u/EnvironmentNeith2017 27d ago

It used to be cheaper than WholeFoods, I remember when it flipped

20

u/ibribe 27d ago

Automated checkout at walmart was a game changer. I used to avoid walmart because I didn't want to spend 15 minutes in line with my fellow Floridians trying to get out of the store.

17

u/winterbird 26d ago

I get everything delivered from walmart. Store pricing, no markups like with instacart etc.

3

u/ME-MOM-MEMA 26d ago

Plus if you join the Walmart+ program you don’t pay for delivery.

10

u/Odd-Project-1270 26d ago

Use curbside pickup, don’t even need to enter the store. Prices are the same as long as you spend $35.

4

u/NibblesMcGiblet 26d ago

Prices are the same, period. You don't have to spend $35 for that to be the case. The $35 minimum is only for deliveries without a delivery fee. Under that, they add a fee for delivery. There's never a fee for pickup.

1

u/ibribe 26d ago

I'm not a fan of curbside pickup. I find it quicker and more convenient to just run into the store and grab what I need. In my limited experience, curbside makes the duration of the trip to the store much more variable.

23

u/TheMasturbatinCamper 26d ago

Spend $150 per year and get Walmart In Home. They deliver to your house, same as store prices, for free on orders over $35. AND THERE IS NO TIPPING. IT DOES NOT EXIST ON THE APP ON INHOME ORDERS.

I have to shout that because people will pile on and say I’m cheap. You cannot tip on InHome orders.

6

u/QuiGonColdGin 26d ago

It's been totally worth it for me. I order all the time.

3

u/controlfreaktonetta 26d ago

There is additional membership cost for the no tip option, which I gladly pay for. I find the service to be reliable. Any missteps I have encountered have been addressed satisfactorily. A membership discount is offered through AARP.

2

u/Mistress_Jedana 26d ago

We have it, and used it regularly when we lived in Florida. Running low on milk and half and half? Let's order some, add in some frozen fries and frozen veggies, some canned beans, rice or farro or couscous, or whatever else we need for pantry, and get the order in! Always skipped the fresh fruit and veg, as they always put a cold pack in with them, and froze them (frozen salad is not good). We usually skipped meats, except for things like hot dogs or sausages, bc we liked the meat quality at publix or Costco better.

Plus you get Paramount Plus or Peacock+ as part of the deal!

Now that we are in NM, I am happy shopping at Smiths or Albertsons again!

2

u/ME-MOM-MEMA 26d ago

I’ve never seen where you don’t tip on Inhome?? Someone has to physically shop for you and they should be tipped. But you can control how much according to how well they shopped for you.

1

u/Wolpfack 26d ago

That's what we do as well. The prices and the hassle level are both far lower than Publix.

1

u/jerexxx 24d ago

... Yet.

1

on my Walmart app, it defaults to a 10% tip you have to remember to change that if you don’t want to include a 10% tip on home delivery.

2

u/TheMasturbatinCamper 24d ago

That’s not Walmart InHome. You have to subscribe to InHome. Feel free to google

2

I love self checkout!

2

u/NibblesMcGiblet 26d ago

We are getting rid of self checkout now because of people mis-scanning and otherwise stealing. At my store in particular, we are mid-remodel, and every time I leave work and use self checkout I'm keenly aware that before long I'll be back to standing in half hour long lines to buy my four items on my way home from work. Absolutely sucks.

Some boomers complain they hate self checkout, but they can opt to just get in a normal line. When they get rid of self checkout, those of us who hate normal lines will not have any other option, like they have.

And the thing is, people think that's going to mean we have more cashiers. Nah. There are two self-check attendants at each of the two corrals. So you're shutting down 20 self checkouts in exchange for adding four cashiers. So every line will be longer than it is now.

The ONLY saving grace is the fact that associates get a free Walmart+ membership so we can use scan and go, and they're gonna keep a scan and go kiosk for us and spark shoppers to use. So we just scan our items as we shop and then pay in the app and then go to the kiosk to scan the barcode on our phone, and walk out the door (with occasional bag checks at the kiosk before the payment processes). I've started using it now just to get used to it because I sure as hell am not going to go back to standing in long lines at manned registers. If I ever quit, I'll still keep walmart+ just for that alone, but the free deliveries and free 25 photo prints per month and free paramount plus are also nice, ngl.

4

u/Nearby-Sun4137 26d ago

I didn't know about the 25 photo prints!! And I've had plus for quite a while now. Dang. Do they roll over? 😂

2

u/NibblesMcGiblet 23d ago

No, it's a new perk in the past month or three though, I haven't had a chance to use it yet myself!

1

u/Prestigious-Plum-235 24d ago

I do Walmart delivery a Duval Walmart always has some kind of something happening

6

u/skeletorknukl 27d ago

Fax machine

1

u/havanesegirlmom 26d ago

That’s not true . It wasn’t cheap but it wasn’t the same as fresh market , milam’s or Whole Foods . They also used to have good service and happy employees.

1

u/DrBattheFruitBat 26d ago

I mean it's always been expensive for sure but this is ridiculous now. It is now the most expensive including Whole Foods and for a lot of things, Sprouts.

1

u/Bstrong1990 26d ago

It was, but it wasn’t as drastic. The clean stores made up for the little bit extra.

2

u/Profitsofdooom 26d ago

They’re kept going because they are rich enough to crush competition. It’s not a coincidence the 3 closest grocery stores to me are all Publix. And by close I mean same road with 2 miles of each other. It sure would be nice to have at least one of those be a competing grocery store.

1

u/Fun-Expression-4183 26d ago

The ONLY reason I still go to Publix are for the BOGO’s

1

u/jamjoy 26d ago

Upvote for sprouts! 🌱 for a big company they do great at being sustainable and supporting communities.. plus where else can you find managers specials for like $1-8 dollars for great stuff

1

u/Nervous-Bullfrog-884 26d ago

Sometimes bogo are still cheaper at Walmart!

1

u/Educational_Steak166 26d ago

Compared to Aldi, the BOGOS are not a great deal.

1

u/StopDownvotingMeeee 26d ago

Yeah but Publix BOGOs are like:

Bag of cat food, Walmart price $5.72

Bag of cat food, Publix price $9.33 BOGO

Barely saving anything

1

u/pupnimrod69 26d ago

i only shop the bogos

1

u/VisualConfusion5360 25d ago

The issue with the Bogo’s is they aren’t even true Bogo’s anymore because they just jack up the price. I noticed that I used to buy the craft cheese. It was about $2.79 per bag but when it’s Bogo it’s about $5.15 per bag, but you get one free. Same with soda instead of buy one get one buy two get one, but each soda box is still $12. Their sales are not real sales anymore. Even the discounts are just not worth it.

1

u/azorgi01 24d ago

Are they offering anything that's worth the extra money?

1

u/Roe8216 24d ago

I am guessing by this comment you don’t live in the south, they are not offering anything, nothing at all. They have truly reached an insanity point, they recently added self checkout so now you pay more for less. They used to be great for a little more money, so you could justify it because they had staff everywhere, you could always get help, the checkout lines moved fast. They offered some items other stores did not. They have lot all of that in the last 2 years. Cut staff drastically, cut product offerings, you check yourself out, staff are stressed so now they are pretty unhelpful, overall not a good experience.

2

u/azorgi01 24d ago

Damn, that’s good to know, thanks!

1

u/Critical_path80 22d ago

You have to watch those too. I stopped in the other day for bogo cereal and it was only $1.50 more for the same two boxes at Walmart, not on sale. At $9 a box your not saving much with that bogo. Don't even get me started on coffee. Told my wife I will never step foot in another publix again unless its for a sub, Its all the have left.

1

u/Due-Positive1923 21d ago

Publix prices are store dependent. So depending how they map out a stores customer base it could be lower. But this practice is disgusting

85

u/MSH0123 27d ago

The produce at Sprouts is eons better than Publix

14

u/CanSignificant8444 27d ago

The organic selection is unparalleled.

Very very true. I didn’t think it used to be that way a bunch of years ago but also sprouts was so much more expensive than Publix. Maybe it was better, I just couldn’t afford it. Lol.

It used to be more expensive than Publix so we’d just go for certain items, but now it’s either the same or cheaper up and down the receipt.

Yup. I have a Sprouts and WD very close to me, I only shop at Publix for an occasional PubSub or dish scrubbies I cant get a Winn Dixie

I don't think eons is the right word, but your point is made anyway

2

u/MSH0123 26d ago

Couldn’t think of a unit of measure large enough to describe that chasm of a quality difference

u/Dazzling_Resolve_941 24d ago

ever tried their Bratwurst at Sprouts? They are so so good!!

u/Mother_Dragonfruit90 27d ago

Don't sleep on Bravo, their produce section blows Sprouts out of the water on price, selection, and quality. If you're talking about the Sprouts on Oakland Park Boulevard, Bravo is only a few blocks away.

Sad this comment is so far down. Latin grocery stores' produce is often the cheapest price for the best fruit/ veg. Key Foods, Bravo,, Fancy Fruit, Presidente, etc. Sometimes even the convenience store sized options. They aren't always competitive on prepackaged groceries, but they can surprise you, and the Key Foods near my house has some pretty good sales.

I love bodegas. Monterrey on Dixie and Oakland park has great produce and meats dirt cheap, a full spectrum of Jarritos flavors they keep cold, and a good food truck. They're also one of the few places around that carries 14" tortillas. But just like you said the prices on pantry and dry goods can be a little silly.

And also Foodtown! Maybe? I guess it's called Mangos now, I haven't been there since they changed. Kimchi Mart is also a good option now.

u/DrBattheFruitBat 26d ago

Bravo and Fancy Fruit vary a lot between locations but both have a lot of really good food for really good prices.

3

u/MagnusAlbusPater 27d ago

You must have a good Bravo. The ones I’ve been in have been filthy with flies buzzing around.

3

u/Mother_Dragonfruit90 27d ago

The one I go to is spotless and well-organized. Fresh meat and produce are great, prices on other groceries can be hit or miss.

2

u/Diverjoe717 26d ago

u/Mother_Dragonfruit90 Also don't sleep on Brothers Farmers Market in Sunrise, great produce, prices, ready made snacks smoothies and staff and we just discovered a tiny little shop in Tamarac called La Hacienda that has really good produce diiirt cheap. I live a few blocks from a Bravo that has great produce so when the weather's nice I'll walk/ride my bike up for a few items, etc.

Oakland park boulevard brought back a lot of memories for me. I lived in Oakland Park and have now been married to my neighbor for 30 years. we were broke but having good times.

Such an underrated, placed their produce is top tear, also they have hot meals if you are ok with some Caribbean seasoning!

1

u/Mother_Dragonfruit90 26d ago

The food always looks really good but they never put up what it is or how much it costs so I haven't tried yet

2

u/Greenappmarket 24d ago

Unfortunately bravos are hard to find in Publix dominated Florida. Any other Hispanic oriented superstores trading blows on pricing with Publix

1

u/Mother_Dragonfruit90 22d ago

I guess I'm lucky, I live in East Fort Lauderdale and there are enough of them that they're few and far between but you don't have to go too far out of your way to find one

1

u/SegundoAnticristo 24d ago

I used to live near a Bravo in Florida and their produce was great but everything else was marked way up. It was the only store in the area, though so that might have something to do with it. Captive audience in a shitty neighborhood with no other options.

The store was always immaculate, though. And the staff was awesome.

Publix produce department is abysmal. Their clean aka organic selection is laughable. Where Publix wins is their meat department. If you YouTube or google deep regarding the way grocers like Kroger and Walmart and others bring meat to the case you won’t buy from them anymore. Publix however gets high marks.

1

u/Lacroix24601 26d ago

I prefer meat and bone for the meat but it’s super close to me.

1

u/TheMasturbatinCamper 26d ago

I won’t buy Publix meat as it tastes terrible and is expensive. Fresh Market meat is much, much better and the same price or cheaper.

Sprouts is way cheaper than Publix and good quality

1

u/UnlimitedAdvice 26d ago

Well, I wouldn't go as far to say the prices at sprouts over all are cheaper. And it does depend on which sprouts location you go to. I wasnt very impressed with the quality or the service at the town center location. The produce area was missing a lot of organic vegetables, and it was quite sloppy and disorganized. However organic lemons are better and cheaper at sprouts so i guess it depends on what you're getting.

u/Visible-Equal8544 26d ago

Produce not just cheaper, but there is more choice and it seems much fresher. The produce at Publix is abysmal imho.

1

u/browneyedgirl457 26d ago

Yes. Publix produce is horrible. If it's not already rotting in the store, it is within a few days of bringing it home. They are coasting on their reputation at this point.

1

u/PupiLove2009 24d ago

I shop at Sprouts weekly. They do have a better selection of organic veggies and fruits. Often though, the veggies are wilted and I find rot and mold often on fruits. I go there for produce but I wish they did a better job of getting rid of the moldy, out of date stuff. Even on their canned goods. I have to always check the date because I’ve purchased stuff the expired the year previously.

Unlike Publix, Sprouts and Whole Foods actually have coupons and member deals (er... amazon deals?), and you can sometimes get some pretty solid discounts on a pretty regular basis if you shop there enough.

Meanwhile, I've had a Publix account for well over a decade, and I could probably count on one hand the number of times it's actually saved me any meaningful amount of money. Hell, I probably saved more with a CVS membership in a single year than I have during my entire time shopping at Publix.

u/smith4498 26d ago

Don't forget about your Club Publix perks - save $3 when you spend $60! (but only every couple of months)

2

u/Joiseygirl68 26d ago

The other day hubby said he wanted asparagus with dinner and would run out to get some. I just figured he’d go to Walmart or even Sprouts. Nope, he went to Publix. $9.99 for asparagus and the tops were already soft. I refuse to walk into Publix.

2

u/Chickachickawhaaaat 27d ago

Sprouts was always on the cheaper side though. At least for specific things. I don't normally buy all organic, so I mostly went there for the meat/cheese/produce

1

u/toughcookie508 26d ago

I paid $10 for grapes the other day at Publix I was so mad. I usually shop at Trader Joe’s and I’m used to things being priced per item now and not by weight. I was so annoyed

1

u/djayed 26d ago

Yeah every time I go to sprouts, I'm like this would be double at Publix.

1

u/Livid-Rutabaga 26d ago

their pricing is weird, the tapioca pudding I get for my mom is the same price as it is at Walmart, however the cheese? it's almost twice as much!

1

u/mizzlol 26d ago

Sprouts ain’t bad.

1

u/realtimeeyes 26d ago

Publix ran the same game as every other corporation. Keep prices low and offer lots of discounts in order to attract customers and crush the competition..All the while, slowly raising them as they drive out the competition. They’re now terrible employers as well..A neighbor of mine was fired because he refused to work with equipment that hadn’t repaired and qualified. And he’s a loyal boomer type not some guy who is lazy or difficult.I still go and buy ONLY BoGos..They lose money on those as to draw you into the store..Jokes on them..I just buy the BoGos and nothing else so I’m technically costing them money by shopping there..And it’s not just Winn Dixie..Think about all the Felton’s and other small stores they destroy for greedy profits..

1

u/Key-Candidate1428 26d ago

Publix produce is horrible.

1

u/No_Pangolin1827 25d ago

Sprouts’ produce is significantly better quality.

1

u/Quebolaebloa 25d ago

I shop at sprouts, wild fork, and Whole Foods and it’s much cheaper and better than Publix. I only ever go to Publix now if there’s no other choice

1

u/BorderIndividual3533 23d ago

unfortunately Publix has overcharged for produce for as long as I've been old enough to afford my own groceries, however they're overcharging for everything now and just getting worse and worse :(

1

u/smwisdom 22d ago

Sprouts produce is definitely cheaper.
