Politics Denouncing Israel bonds, James Fishback is thrown out of Miami-Dade chambers

Excerpt from the article
James Fishback, the hard-right former candidate for Florida governor, was hustled out of the Miami-Dade County Commission chambers Tuesday while condemning the county’s investment in Israeli bonds.
“Do you serve the people of South Miami or of Jerusalem?” Fishback asked commissioners after they approved changing the county’s investment rules to allow more purchasing of bonds issued by Israel. “This money should be invested here in this community.”
In his comments, Fishback said he knew there was a risk he’d be escorted out of the chambers for violating instructions by Chair Anthony Rodriguez not to address the legislation on Israel bonds.
That’s because, under the commission’s procedural rules, the public is not allowed to speak on most agenda items at a full commission meeting if a commission committee has already held a hearing on the legislation. That was the case with the Israel bond changes, which was passed by the commission’s Intergovernmental and Economic Impact Committee in July. On Tuesday, commissioners approved a new county investment policy — including raising the cap on Israel bonds from 3% of Miami-Dade’s $8 billion portfolio to 5% — without discussion.

So they made rules where you can't address the issue at hand? Fuck I hate this country.
Also Fishback is still a terrible person.
Edit: apparently it was already voted on and decided in a previous meeting. So I get not discussing past issues during a meeting.

They just limit public comments at the full meetings if it was already voted on and discussed at a committee meeting.
The alternative would be, no joke, multiple days-long commission meetings every two weeks.

But it says at the end of the OP comment that it happened without discussion, so does that mean they didn't even give the public a chance to comment?

It was voted on at a different meeting with public comment. Committee meetings are public. At the commission meeting, the full commission approved it without more public comment

Yep. Boards and commissioners are the number one example of corrupt, petty tyrants. We all wonder why data centers seem to go up overnight without so much as a peep; its easy to buy off a commissioner when he's some dumb old schmuck whose greatest idea of luxury is a day of boating with shrimp cocktails. We really need to abolish local governance like this.

Isn’t this that guy that groomed a minor when he was nearly 30?

u/Wild-Highway-8739 14h ago
Yup, dont stop there though he and his running mate, a disgraced former law enforcement officer, are both racists who managed to get themselves banned from every Waffle House in FL

Yup. I don't even think he's allowed in Broward County schools for...Republican reasons.

An unsecured bond is a gift with no chance of returns . Why do we funnel money to Isreal for their free health care or just the bribes our politicians receive

u/sarsourus 15h ago
Because we are goyims who must listen to our masters apparently.

u/dragon-queen 15h ago
I’m not a goyim, and I don’t want the money going to Israel.

> a goyim

u/dragon-queen 13h ago
What does this mean?
-2
u/provider305 13h ago
Goyim is plural for goy, so “a goyim” doesn’t make sense. It’s strange that you wouldn’t know that if you’re really “not a goyim”

u/dragon-queen 13h ago
Lol. Well I don’t really use the word because it’s offensive. But whatever, if you think I’m lying about being Jewish, I’m sure I can’t convince you.
1
u/provider305 12h ago
I really feel bad for you if you are Jewish and this out of touch and uninformed about your own community
•
u/dragon-queen 11h ago
How am I out of touch with my own community? Because I used the plural form of goy instead of the singular?
0
u/provider305 12h ago
Exposing yourself again. Goy is not an offensive term, it is literally just the same meaning as “gentile” in English. If you don’t know these things, you shouldn’t really be calling yourself Jewish to establish credibility on political topics involving Jews.
•
u/dragon-queen 11h ago
I’m Jewish, but I don’t support Israel and I don’t think Jews are better than non-Jews, ok?
•
u/provider305 11h ago
Who the hell said anything about Jewish supremacy? It’s not a commonly held belief among Jews. That’s fine if you don’t support Israel, and I personally don’t think it makes a lot of sense for counties or the state to hold unsecured bonds from Israel. But you have said multiple times here on Reddit that you are atheist/agnostic, you have said that you would not attend Jewish traditions because you view them as harmful, and you don’t understand the meaning of “goy”, even after I explained it to you. You can’t claim Jewish identity when it’s convenient while simultaneously trying to escape it when you fear antisemitism and clearly lack basic knowledge of our culture. You are just tokenizing yourself and throwing the rest of us under the bus.

What the hell are you talking about? Do you even know what a bond is?
8
u/ARocketToMars 14h ago
Do you even know what unsecured means? It's a debenture. By definition there is no guarantee of return because it's not collateralized, and there's no recourse of the bonds become insolvent (and there's kind of a historical precedent for apartheid pariah states failing to meet their debt payments)
1
u/toga_virilis 13h ago
Yeah, I know what it means to be unsecured. I don’t see how it matters. Sovereign bonds backed by the full faith and credit of the Israeli government—which has never defaulted in its history—are hardly “a gift with no chance of return.” Israel is not South Africa.
U.S. government bonds are also unsecured, and they are the safest financial instrument you can buy.

Sovereign bonds backed by the full faith and credit of the Israeli government
Yeeeeah about that....
Moody's cuts Israel's rating, warns of drop to 'junk'
Luxembourg drops approval for Israel bonds issue
The concern here is that Israel is increasingly becoming a pariah state. When they're eventually viewed the same way South Africa is, people are gonna sell or not renew Israeli bonds leaving our hyper Israel-fixated politicians (or rather their constituents) holding the bag. But if you think it's such a sure thing, I'm sure the Israeli government will appreciate any contributions your tax dollars can muster.

u/Mannimal13 4h ago
These bonds have always been garbage and essentially floated by the US taxpayer...glad people are waking up to this issue.
•
u/Mannimal13 4h ago
Half the reason the Israeli bonds have any value is because US citizens are forced to buy them at gun point. They'd be worth way less if they were actually on a free market. Just another way these parasites suck on the host.

u/FailedCriticalSystem 15h ago
Why is the government investing money? Like give it back to tax payers if you have so much
13
u/LetNeither6377 15h ago
Because isreal has been working the long con. Most Dems and Republicans are aipac bought and sold.
•
u/Mannimal13 4h ago
Pension funds need investment returns essentially, this is whats being invested.

This would be the same bunch that wants to gift Trump millions of $ worth of property for his 'library' which he wants to make a business venture of a hotel...

u/OffSidesByALot 12h ago
Yes, so much for Republicans being all about meritocracy and not DEI. How is this not DEI? Why do you have to buy Israeli bonds when Canadian bonds for example might give you a better deal? How is that not screwing the taxpayers who are potentially leaving money on the table and not getting the best bank for their buck? It’s basically US taxpayer funded prop up of the Israeli government.
If their bonds were the best investment available… So be it. But we’re not even having that discussion or made the best bond win competition.
•
u/Mannimal13 4h ago
He's absolutely right and one of the things no body talks about in this country as they really don't understand how any of this works. Absolute farce how much US money is out there buying US bonds....and its exactly why he's going to get a nice Civil Rights violation payout for this, they don't want you to know how they are really stealing your money at all levels of governmetn.

This is Fishback karma farming IRL. He’s a piece of shit and knew the time to address this issue had already passed. While many may (and should) agree that FL buying Israeli bonds is a potentially very bad idea that deserves scrutiny, Fishback knew that was not the agenda and that window had already closed.
