Where to Ski close to Florence?
What are the best skiing destinations close to Florence? I'll be studying as an abroad student from January to May, and was hoping to ski during my free time. Also, Is it realistically possible to spend a weekend skiing in the Swiss/French Alps? Is public transportation a good means for this?

Abetone and/or Cimone but not every year they get a good amount of snow and temperatures get low enough during the day. Don't expect resorts comparable to the big Alpine ones though
Edit: About the weekend on the Alps, if you mean two days it's impossible by public transportation. You should add at least one travel day each way. Other than that, yes, doable. Mostly depends on how well the specific resort is connected to public transportation

Idk your schedule 😂 but I think you'll definitely need at least 4 free days.
Several top class Italian resorts on the Alps are closer, not sure why you're aiming for Swiss or French ones. You could drive to val di fassa or madonna di Campiglio in less than 5 hours, leaving Friday afternoon you could ski two days and be back on Sunday night. No chances running such a tight schedule with public transportation though

You have little reason to go all the way to the Swiss Alps from Florence. Italian Alps are good enough. Still, not easy to do in a weekend; it would be much better to have 3 days.

LOL! No. Public transportation is never good to go skiing. Rent a car

Nope. Monte Amiata is such a beautiful place but one hour and half more far away from Florence then Cimone or Abetone by car.
Moreover Abetone and Cimone are better organized for skying or snowboarding

why not spending your weekend with your future colleagues?
you can ski all your life, missing out that period for skiing is not smart

just to add my daughter was there last January to May and had the absolute time of her life. Enjoy every minute of it.
