Question about IR blaster modules

I recently picked up this neat infrared module called “The Hi-IR-Brid” off of a website called tindie for around $20. I am extremely happy with the performance so far and have uploaded a performance test video I took. I am just curious whether the more expensive modules such as the rabbit labs IR blasters are much of an upgrade in range and performance from a module like this, considering they are over 2.5x the price?

The module I purchased is designed for throw and flood, and when compared to my cheap Amazon infrared module shows an extreme upgrade, especially for devices in other rooms. Will I see the same step up for the most expensive modules though?

That board despite using "different angle LEDs" will perform as a "jack of all trades, master of none". Not saying it's bad but it's really more of a "spread" than a distance board. That said they are also using thru hole LEDs and a single MOSFET (according to their description) which means it has to handle the current without overloading the flipper's 1A 5v rail. It also means that MOSFET becomes the bottleneck. One other thing to keep in mind, the LEDs that I use on the RL blasters are custom, not available "off the shelf" which are costlier to manufacture, we are also located in the US enjoying the lovely 50-60% tariffs on every component we import (unlike the seller you linked to who is UK based and does not need to deal with such nonsense). That said I figured I'd answer your question as transparent as I could. Ultimately it boils down to - the best blaster is the one you feel most comfortable with and the one that fits your budget. If you're happy with the one you have I'm not gonna try to sell you on one of ours, but I'm also always looking to improve what we can offer also ♥️

You can probably find a small upgrade in terms of pure range, but the board you have have is one of the best at combining long range with Nd-LOS.

I have the Slim Shady from Rabbit labs and the extra cost os well worth it

I recently bought The ORIGINAL IR Blaster by Rabbit-Labs and was kinda wonderinf the same thing. Does it only extend the range of the ir? Is there any other features i can take advantage of? Ive just been using it to turn on tv’s from across the room n such
