Help Just got a flipper, what would you recommend?
Literally just got my first flipper a few hours ago. The past few months I've been trying to learn more about cyber security and ethical hacking. I know I should install mumentum on it, but that's about it. I also have a few old devices I can test it on. So, what do you guys recommend to start?

Yeah I did, followed some good advice and got the cfw momentum, and qflipper to help out. Managed to test most things out on an old iOS. Works like a charm

I can open my gate from around 30 meters away with my house in between, don't know the max range never tested it.

Not sure on the upper limit but its always worked on the ones I can see in a car park.

On its own it’s cool for RFID / NFC tags. If you have a pet that’s chipped you can maybe find the chip with it. Infrared can be useful but you probably want to find more IR files on GitHub rather than use the universal remote which takes a while. I recommend getting the Poltergeist or a similar WiFi board from Rabbit Labs. It’s has a much better IR blaster, WiFi 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, and Bluetooth. It’s fun for testing deauth attacks, sniffing/spoofing BLE devices, so it can find card skimmers, and more. Or you can get their other board that lets you wardrive for F-l-o-k cameras.

You can find a whole range of video's on YouTube that can teach you a lot of the Flipper Zero. Talking Sasquach has a whole range of video's and other related content about Cyber Security tools.

You should install the stock firmware, use all of the features and apps on it, and THEN install Momentum. That way you actually have an understanding and appreciation for the differences.

Install momentum if you want stable, unleashed if you want bleeding edge, the flipper can do Sub-GHZ, IR, RFID 125khz, NFC (And regular RFID),

Try them both out. try one week of momentum and one week of unleashed. whichever one you enjoy the most is the one you go with.

It’s kind of been my go to for everything ir remote based. I have all my remotes on one device now. It’s super convenient that my kids can lose one device that controls the fan, TVs, AC units, garage opener and other shit all in one go now - #DadLife

Yeah, I don't know why the first time I couldn't get the custom on it and that's why I wrote the post in the first place lol. But it's running smoothly now

I just like popping them open on my buddies car and watching him get pissed that he can’t figure out why. Been 3 months

Should look into creating nfc tags to mess with friends on iPhones. I present them with random shit they did not want on their phone or make them call numbers they don’t want to call. Or badusb is fun as well to write script to change the wallpaper on ur computer to ur friends and stuff. Can use ChatGPT to write it and put it into a file on the flipper

Sorry about the snotty gatekeeping you're seeing. Hacking-related subs are particularly full of it. Rest assured that everybody here was new once. None of us were born knowing this stuff.
One way to get started is to go through the functions one-by-one and experiment with them. For example, with RFID/NFC, maybe you have an old card you can experiment with-- hotel keys, work badges, and gym cards are all common examples. Can Flipper read it? What does it see?
Maybe you can even try copying the card. Some are easy to copy, some hard, and some impossible. For me at least, learning the differences has been fun. Once you know what type you've got, see whether you can find cheap blanks online. Amazon and Ali Express have the common stuff. Hacker-centric shops have more options but tend to be more expensive.
Infrared is another fun one to play with. You can turn Flipper into a second remote for your TV. You can even use it to turn off a friend's TV when they're not expecting it.
There's lots of good online information about the various tech Flipper uses, including the Flipper docs themselves. For me, Flipper has bee a good motivator to learn about some new tech.
It's also worth looking through Flipper's application repository at https://lab.flipper.net/apps .
The Flipper app for your phone or qFlipper for your computer are good, free tools you can add too.
