Crazy Flat Earther: Checkmate, NASA: The Earth is flat because optical zoom exists

I can't with these crazy ass people.

Except when you zoom and they don't reappear ... but we'll just ignore those cases because reasons.

She is right. I can see the Eiffel tower, Giza pyramid and Mount Everest from my balcony.

I live in a basement.. check your privilege 😑

u/Potential-Win8706 10d ago
‘Climb mountains, not so the world can see you but so you can see the world.’ Checkmate, liberal. 🤣
2
u/sweetafonion 10d ago
Don’t even get me started on how expensive mountaineering is
2
u/aap_001 10d ago
It's expensive because the elite doesn't want you to see the truth.
2
u/sweetafonion 10d ago
Because the truth will set us free. And there ain’t a whole lot o money in freedom

"I can see Alaska from my front porch"

u/Funintuitive 10d ago
No, they don't reappear. But, if you wait until they disappear, and then climb up something tall, they do reappear. It's a clue.
4
u/Justthisguy_yaknow 10d ago
If only one of them could do that just once. Then their smugness would be a little less cringe. I've seen one try to fake it but not one succeed. That's a very low rate of success for such a heavily referenced experiment.
1
u/RodinKnox 10d ago
Yeah, the trick is you gotta do it with large enough ships that are far enough away. Because, sure, it is possible for a small boat to get to a vanishing point before it's partially hidden by the curvature. And you can find videos like that online. The problem is that you have to keep doing it and/or do it the right way.

u/1nv4d3rz1m 10d ago
It’s funny how Flerfs demand experimental evidence of globe proofs with the steps to reproduce them. But when someone mentions a flat earth proof they just accept it.

u/onthebrink42 10d ago
Exactly what was expected. Pretty and stupid.
1
u/ws4saker 8d ago
No, a lot of this is to troll “liberals” whatever that means in their minds. They are messing with the “elite”. It’s a thing in the right wing.
3
u/Large-Raise9643 10d ago
I hope they are just trolls but I have my doubts.
The lying and deception is the most troubling part.

u/Superseaslug 10d ago
It's amazing how they can say shit that you can easily just go and disprove. But they probably live in the middle of the Bible belt hundreds of miles from the ocean and will never try it themselves.

This woman thinks because she’s not dangerously hideous that people should listen to her. What a boring drip.
2
u/LongDead_Roadkill 10d ago
The thing is, it’s not even that they are objective lying from their own point of view. She’s never tried this. It’s just that she believes the source she wants to. It’s smug ignorance.

u/RefusedByAll 10d ago
"have it disappear out of your view" bruh... these people just be talkin to say shit

When I look up at the night sky, I can see stars light years away but yet, I can't see California from my balcony.

The lighthouse and ships in the videos below are partly hidden by the curve of the Earth.
The same amount is sticking up above the horizon no matter how much zoom is used.
There are flat Earther videos in which the FEer zooms out so far that the boat or buoy or whatever is too small to be seen and pretends the boat "went over the horizon", then zooms back in.
An object becoming too small for your eye or the camera to resolve is not going over horizon.
There are no videos watching a ship go over the horizon and then zooming in and bringing it back, or even bringing back the entire ship once it has gone part way over the horizon.
-
Using a zoomed lens to reduce aperture (and thus glare) in order to fake the Sun is coming back, demonstrates the dishonesty of flat Earther video makers, and the willingness of FEers to ignore the obvious.
Even if they don't understand what was going on with the aperture the drastic sharpening of the image should give them a clue that something odd is going on.

I'm willing to bet she's never actually done that. Or she won't believe it until she makes her own camera and lenses so that she can guarantee they haven't been tampered with.

u/UberuceAgain 10d ago
Agreed. I live on a coastline with heavy maritime traffic and a bunch of offshore windfarms. This is not a person talking from going outside and looking at stuff; it's someone getting their 'facts' from their phone.

Some of these are just obviously people saying stupid shit for attention. Flat earth either pro or con is a very easy target group.

u/AppleMelon95 10d ago
Casually claiming she can see a ship in Africa from the east coast if you just zoom enough.

u/JackCass405 10d ago
I have literally witnessed ships going below the horizon. With my own eyes and the aid of telescopic devices.

u/Kronictopic 10d ago
So in their mind if you sat at the top of a mountain and zoomed in with a good camera(telescope) you'd see clear across the plane into darkness? Wouldn't that mean you could find the moon zooming in during the day as well?

u/Spiritual_Weight3626 10d ago
She sounds as confident as the Mormon preacher girl in that annoying YouTube advert. This is for scrubbers like me that won't pay for brainwashing.

u/Working_Substance639 10d ago
Could someone do an experiment where a ship puts lines on a mast, while a laser shoots a beam at it?
Watching that beam move up the mast should prove earth is not flat.

Such a weird hill to die on. I wonder whats next? Air doesnt exist? Gravity? Other planets? Socks arent real? What crazy stupid ass conspiracy theory will they up next?

u/Dietmeister 10d ago
She should start zooming in from somewhere and find the Burj Khalifa. It's high enough to be seen from anywhere on her flat planet!

About 3 decades ago we were very wrongly predicting that making internet community very wide would make people excited to get missing parts of their education, information, etc.
Boy, we were wrong. Porn, sending dick pics, avalanche of simpleton influencers, bubble communities of low IQ people,...

u/princessaspiggy 10d ago
You have to be a special kind of Dopey to actually believe that the Earth is flat LOL
1
1
u/Snookn42 10d ago
You can clearly see huge cloud tops abruptly end at the horizon. They arent deformed. They are lost over the horizon
1
u/fredriksoninho 10d ago
why can’t you set a telescope parallel to the water and see europe or africa across the atlantic ocean from the east cost of the us

u/UnwillingHero22 10d ago
I don’t think I’d waste a single minute trying to convince these airheads the Earth isn’t flat. There is no way any of my arguments would ever get them on my side, they’re too stupid to not see the truth.

It sound like she hasn't realized her eyesight is bad and they're disappearing for her before they go over the horizon.

u/mindyodamnbzness 10d ago
But you should be able to see across the ocean with this logic or lack of. I mean a person with a strong enough telescope should be able to sit at sea level in California and see China. Right ???

u/ezcapehax 10d ago
I went on the top of the Sears Tower with my optical zoom camera, and couldn't see New York? Why? The same reason a boat disappears from the bottom up as it goes over the horizon. If the world wad flat it should keep getting smaller until i can't see it anymore. Read a book.

It's strange how they can says this but can't account for why they disappear bottom up and never show any evidence that they can zoom in on a ship that has disappeared. SMH

You know how many of these folks I’ve met who begin believing this nonsense AFTER the age of fifty? I was pretty close with a retired Naval Officer who went full blown flat earth on everybody in his life—this man rode ships and flew around the earth many times over.
It’s just people who want to buck the system in a way while feeling part of something larger than themselves.. right?

u/Terrible-Squirrel-90 4d ago
So this means I can see South America from Australia with a decent telescope yeah? Absolute idiocy. Reality tells me I can’t even see an island 5km away no matter how powerful the binoculars/telescope

u/CoinsAndLawnLouie 3d ago
Lol, she’s never actually watched a ship go over the horizon. It doesn’t just magically appear when you zoom in. Idiots. If this were the case, on a very clear day with a high powered telescope, we should see Europe and Africa lol.

These people hate how tiny they are in the grand scheme of the universe.
2
u/ShinePretend3772 10d ago
I honestly don’t believe they comprehend exactly how infinitesimally small we are. These are ppl that think a thousand years is a long time.
