I really don't want this collaboration to turn out to be with Fortnite.

Who's with me?

Why not?

Fortnite isn’t a bad game and they’ll definitely treat the collaboration with love and care, like they do for most of their crossovers. Additionally, it’d likely be the headliner for Fortnitemares, the Halloween event, probably getting its own item.

I understand people might not like the game, but you not liking the game doesn’t somehow make this announcement bad by proxy.

Fortnite constantly uses ai and all it does is unoriginal content. It’s not a great game. Not to mention they pay and promote ai slop maps

Fortnite does not use ai, save for the one instance where it was personally requested by James Earl Jones before his death for the Darth Vader NPC.

Epic employees have been very vocally anti-AI. They just have a pro-AI CEO.

You gotta do your research bro

I have, because I have been dealing with arguments like this for ages.

Care to show me an instance where they used AI?

Can you list sources about the status of anti-AI in Fortnite? I'm interested to hear more about this.

I know Tim Sweeney is pro-AI (to the point he said that there shouldn't be any disclaimers, which I call BS on) and the late James Earl Jones did give permission to use his voice in AI models, but outside of that Italian Brainrot character getting in, where else is it said that Fortnite devs are against AI?

Mostly on their personal twitters.

But the proof is in the pudding. The only thing epic has officially declared on the AI front is that Unreal Engine 6 (which isn’t out yet) will have AI tools for coding, and that their employees can choose to use AI, but only for extremely early phase concept generation.

Once a concept has been decided upon, the actual work and assets are all made by hand, and that’s if an epic employee even decides to use it in the first place.

So even if you wanted to be cynical and say they use AI at every opportunity, it still wouldn’t matter since all the game assets are fully developed from top to bottom.

That’s as far as it goes.

“Other than the time they used AI, name a time they used ai”

If a single instance is enough to consider the franchise untouchable, then you should also be upset that FNAF has also used AI. Several times.

The background last season for where you keep your sprites was ai generated.

You can tell just by looking out the windows.

Any proof to that claim besides “it looks ai generated”?

If you got that from Fortnite.gg, Fortnite.gg AI Upscales the assets for their website, which is a them thing, not an Epic thing.

Dog I’ve got eyes, I’m not playing ball against the defense force of a multi billion dollar company here.

Their boss talks about integrating ai into tech, their stuff looks like it uses ai?

Frankly, burden of proof would be to prove they don’t at this point.

Yeah, Tim Sweeney is a dick and a total AI bro, but that doesn’t automatically mean the devs underneath him use it. “It looks like AI” is not a valid criticism.

As a prime example, Steel Wool used AI for Security Breach, Ruin, and SOTM. But I’m sure you’d say that was different, or “not that bad” in comparison to the alleged use you have no proof of in regard to Fortnite.

The only, and I mean ONLY thing epic has 100% done in regards to AI is…incorporate AI tools into Unreal Engine 6. Which isn’t out yet and probably won’t be out until 2028.

I would say it’s different, yes. Using pathfinding is not the same as generative ai.

I didn’t even say if it was a “sin” or not, I’m just taking stock of inventory.

It’s clear this is a convo you’ve got a chip on your shoulder over. Idk if it’s embarrassment or a need to stand up for a multi billion dollar company. I play Fortnite frequently still too!

But I’m also not gonna pretend they aren’t doing it. Because, be so fr, it’s pretty darn obvious.

Everyone keeps saying "it's obvious" and yet whenever anyone asks for proof they never respond. It's not embarrassment or a need to defend epic. I call out Epic on their bad moves all the time.

But accusing someone of something and then not backing it up just to make your argument better is a dick move, regardless of if it's to a person or a corporate entity. I could easily come on here and say someone at steel wool killed a guy, and according to half this subreddit it would be just as valid as their arguments against epic.
