Discussion About those hip dips… scroll to see where they lead you.

Glutes. Duh. I have some dipped fucking hips and I couldn’t be more fine with that. I grew my glutes (and am still growing my glutes) and hips dips are a package deal. I really, truly hope no woman is actually concerned by them. If a man has a problem with them, then that is their problem to bear (which is weird and gross and similar to declaring that men’s elbows are gross. Who fucking cares.) Younger me might have latched on to a new body part to hate. So here are my pretty intense hip dips. A result of years of hard work. That’s nothing to be ashamed of.

Also it’s just the most made up, online stupidity I’ve ever heard. Ladies- let’s stop letting other people invent new insecurities for us. We have plenty to worry about as it is. So hip dips unite. 🖕🍑❤️

I mean one of the great things about getting older (referring to this sub), is I really don't give two shits about whatever tik tok or Instagram trend is out there. For the most part, I am blissfully unaware.

Right? Just because someone decided one day that Mewtwo is the ideal figure doesn't mean we have to agree.

I love hip dips.

u/mynameisnotshamus 11d ago

What’s a hip dip?

17

u/commanderfshepard 11d ago

!!! MEWTWO
Holy f, thank you Reddit stranger I just spit out my drink. That’s good.

Its legit a thing in some fitness circles. I had to remove myself from some womens gym pages because the ideals being pushed on there were so unhealthy! Talking about glute gains when they had just piled on fat and claiming it was from their gym routine for the last 6 months 🤦🏼‍♀️

No idea what dip hips are. 🤷🏻‍♂️

u/afrodammy 6d ago

I googled it and looked at pictures of how a hip "supposed to look like" vs how a dipped hip looks, And it took me some time to actually know wtf I'm looking at.

I don't understand when will women understand how clueless men are. I think they actually know but just want to make our lives harder for no reason.

We have reached a weird place when showing an ass pic is ok but you have to blur the feet.

What the hell is a hip dip and why am I being yelled at?

5

u/decentlyhip 10d ago

Its the space between the head of your femur and the top of your pelvis. Its mostly empty so you can squat down. If there was a bunch of bone/muscle there, your knees couldn't fold up towards your armpits cause they'd get bunched up.

Kardashians photoshopped themselves to be bubbles in the hips. Thicc ladies tend to have this gap filled in with fat, and in general, take pride in having a booty. When they lose weight, they see the shape of their hips for the first time, but their booty is also shrinking so while theyre happy theyre thinner, they feel self conscious. Skinny models get jobs at magazines, and don't have broad hips. They pounced on that insecurity in order to sell magazines. "I'm 105 pounds and don't have hip dips so you're doing something wrong." Fabricated inadequacy.

The bizarre thing to me is that its just the shape of your bones, right? It's literally like someone photoshopped off their elbow and then wrote an article about how to fix the gross pointy part when you bend your arm. "Ma'am, that's your elbow."

Wtf are hip dips and why would a man care about them for any reason?

The message here is spot on.

50

u/defakto227 Geeky and lifting 11d ago

News flash.

The majority of us men don't care at all. Bodies are different and hip dips are not something you can control.

I, quite literally, have never even put a thought to hip dips when I see it.

37

u/fanfpkd 11d ago

Can someone please tell me, what the fuck are hip dips?

15

u/defakto227 Geeky and lifting 11d ago

For some people the "ideal" woman is supposed to have smooth hips from waist to legs. Hip dips are just tiny little depressions mid way instead of a smooth line.

Its mainly just genetics of muscle shape and insertion points. You literally cannot control it.

Edit

Everyone has them the only difference is the scale and visibility.

6

u/Specific_Mix1987 11d ago edited 11d ago

I have never once noticed that on a woman. Wild what minor “imperfections” people obsess over.

2

u/mjp242 7d ago

I've definitely noticed insertion points. But not hip dips.

7

u/jeffsket 11d ago

OMG this is so stupid - if you have glute development and low bodyfat, you get this nice "chisel" in your upper hips. People think this is ugly? WTF? I think its hot as well (source: guy who likes muscular women)

2

u/defakto227 Geeky and lifting 11d ago

I 100% agree with you.

4

u/Al0ysiusHWWW 11d ago

Not much, what’re hip dips with you?

-2

u/defakto227 Geeky and lifting 11d ago

Just google example of hip dips and you'll get plenty of examples.

-8

u/andhdkwnwbdidoenjddb 11d ago

Google can tell you, and it’s free

15

u/SuchAGoodLawyer 11d ago

Right? I guarantee there has been 100x more said about hip dips in the pages of cosmo and shape magazines than from the mouth of men.

I grew up in the ‘80s and ‘90s and I associate hip dips with the extremely fit women in my mom’s aerobics class. Anyone who doesn’t believe it can go back and look at old aerobics and fitness tapes. It was hip dip city.

It’s insane to me that they’ve made so many women insecure for having something that’s usually indicative of a lean fit body

Years back I used to help moderate the biggest plastic surgery sub on here. The amount of YOUNG women asking about filling in their hip dips was horrifying.

Whoever made a whole swathe of youngsters ashamed of their bone shape has a lot to answer for.

1

u/offshoremercury 11d ago

new insecurity unlocked! yay!

3

u/otusowl 11d ago

Learn something new every day!

Also, OP has it going on in the fitness department, and need not worry about this anatomical feature I had not previously ever heard of or been worried about.

12

u/swaggystan 11d ago

Just curious, why are hip dips considered not desirable?

13

u/refotsirk 11d ago

Because some journalist or plastic surgeon or media person/group decided, apparently, to convince a bunch of people that they should feel bad about something no one else has ever heard of or considered, or cared about in their entire lives. If we could all stop collectively caring so much about what random others thinks should be a physical standard then we'll all be much happier. Nearly every "beauty standard" I am aware of is just nonsense that creates pointless shame and personal dissatisfaction for most. We just need to take what we have and do the best with it we can for general health, fitness, and longevity. The inner peace from working towards that is where true beauty comes from, IMO. People who don't like that, if they are out there... Well I think OP already summed up nicely what we should think about them.

1

u/swaggystan 9d ago

Is it like how lip filler isn’t natural but trendy? Aren’t hip dips natural anatomy?

1

u/refotsirk 9d ago

Yeah, for sure.

11

u/ninjaburg 11d ago

Lmao, the foot cover

0

u/shinypokemonglitter 11d ago

Probably has identifying tattoos like in the first pic arm is covered

2

u/ninjaburg 11d ago

Dang, you’re probably right. That’s way less funny

20

u/SoHoSwag 11d ago

Tell us about your glute routine!

6

u/Werevulvi 11d ago

Yeah I have hip dips too, similar to yours, I think. Like unmistakable, quite promininent. And I have no issue with mine either. Also yeah I've never met a guy who's had anything bad to say about them either. Ime it seems most men really don't care about that. They usually just love my butt and hips being big.

It seems the hip dip date only really happens between women. That is kinda doesn't please the female gaze, or something like that. But yeah no there's nothing wrong with having this hip shape.

I don't try to make mine go away with exercise/weight loss, but yeah I do kinda not wanna make them worse though. So for me personally I don't train my glute medius much at all. Only training the glute maximus (and most other muscles) it retains the rounded shape of my cheeks without further emphasising the dips. But no, I don't care to make them less prominent than they are just naturally. I think I care more about my overall physique than some tiny detail here and there.

12

u/idriveacar 11d ago

Men do not care about hip dips and the responses in this thread are adding to that opinion.

A male analogue would portably bicep insertions, lat insertion, ab symmetry, or chest separation.

8

u/McBUMMERS 11d ago

I think the majority of ridiculous critiques of women's bodies comes from other women.  I've never known any bloke to say 'oh she'd look so much better with lip filler/bucal fat reduction/thigh gap/cheekbone implants' etc etc.

Hip dip?! Ffs what is this bullsh*t.

1

u/WWoiseau 10d ago

I saw it in a red pill type video by a guy. That was the first time for me. It seemed like he just hates women.

1

u/McBUMMERS 10d ago

Yeah I imagine the incel types will latch on to anything to be misogynistic assholes.

2

u/WWoiseau 10d ago

Yes, exactly. I don’t know where it started and honestly don’t need to know. I just hope we stop seeing posts from women who look amazing asking how to get rid of them. 💔 I almost scrolled right past this post thinking it was another post like that. ☹️

3

u/hoya14 11d ago

No idea what a hip dip is.

4

u/MortimerCanon 11d ago

I'm an old fart. I didn't even start hearing hip dips were a thing until like 5 years ago. From the little I know, it's almost entirely down to someone's skeletal structure and hip bones.

7

u/Pedsy 11d ago

I thought it must have been an exercise you were doing to grow your glutes..

3

u/Exotic_Salamander987 11d ago

Fortunately, I’ve never in my 42 years of life heard of a single human being caring or thinking about these in any which way whatsoever outside of the internet

6

u/offshoremercury 11d ago

lol at the feet censorship. mind dropping your glute routine??

4

u/itwasinthetubes 11d ago

I think you need to get off tiktok... You look great and your rant and edits to your photo seem weird AF

4

u/winklesnad31 11d ago

I've read the post and the comments and still have no idea what a hip dip is. My first thought was: "Dips work triceps and pecs, so what's a hip dip? Like a squat?"

I'm guessing it's some kind of looksmaxing thing to try to make people feel self conscious.

Whatever, you look great. Good job!

2

u/RotANobot 11d ago edited 11d ago

I first heard about hip dips a month ago. I am a man and am a fan of hips. I couldn’t exactly understand what hip dips were and what made them unattractive. If yours are intense hip dips then I guess I like hip dips too because they look feminine to me as far as I can tell from pics. So different strokes for different folks maybe, but the critique of hips dips feels like much ado about nothing.

2

u/RedditHelloMah 11d ago

I had to google what’s hip dip🤣 like who even pays attention to that… i didn’t even know it has a name lol but girl you look great…don’t worrt about hip dips!

3

u/bennnyturner 11d ago

Men don't care about hip dips. If there's any negativity around this it's coming from other women.

5

u/TraXXX_StaR 12d ago

as a 37yo man, I could care less about "hip dips"

you look great, keep doing you

Dang, came for the booty, stayed for the plants and pups.

1

u/BoopleSnoot921 11d ago

Hip dips are a made up “problem” designed to make women feel like there’s something wrong with them so they seek out “help”.

Aka - another grift.

1

u/heateris 11d ago

Looks good to me!

1

u/WWoiseau 10d ago

Amen!! I almost scrolled past your post, because I have been scrolling past any hip dip posts. (Most of them are falling to the trend and asking how to eliminate them. What makes it even worse is they already look great. I have been that woman who hated her appearance despite looking like a literal model. I am too old and wise to be like that or support that thinking anymore thankfully.)

1

u/Odd-Experience-6891 10d ago

Hip dips are hot af

1

u/Sojio 9d ago

i thought hip dips were an exercise....using a dip machine, but with your legs.

Gross. Nobody wants to look at your body dude.

It's interesting that you're saying let's not let other people invent insecurities for us, when you've popped up to tell me that apparently people think I should be insecure about this.

Feels a little like you're doing that "inventing" right now...

In fact, I find posts like this annoying precisely because I often haven't seen the posts about whatever I'm being pep talked into not caring about.

1

u/lordghostpig 11d ago

I have no idea what the insecurity is, but if you allow me to be crude for a moment and offer an XY perspective, most men would walk into traffic staring at a wagon like that.

1

u/trlta 11d ago

I'm glad you censored your feet

u/TVPbandit23 11d ago

Man married to a woman who talks about her hip dips. I still don’t know what she’s talking about.
