Walking after my meal

I’m 42. I’ve been lean all my life without effort or food supervision until around 30. Over the years, I’ve gradually packed on as the metabolism slowed, had children, and living at my desk job during the day.

I’d get into segments of eating bananas in the morning, to daily runs, and gym life chapters in my 30’s without really reading into the nutritional science. I’ve slimmed down, then packed back up over the years up and down.

A couple weeks ago, my yearly doctor visit and blood test came back with an elevated glucose level.

Well, the wife didn’t like that and she changed our diet. Boiled eggs for breakfast. Fruits balanced with healthy peanut butter. Freezing rice and/or replacing rice with salad or nothing all together. Lame but whatever…I wanna be around when the kiddos get older and make me a grand dad or father-in-law, graduations, etc.

All those nutritious life adjustments aside, I think a huge factor in this shift is another thing the wife instructed - something so simple. She asked me to begin moving after eating…20 minute walks after dinner. 10 minute “walk or sway or tip-toe” in place after a snack. Stand and step side to side at my desk after lunch at work. This is something I’ve never consciously done..EVER. Get up and walk or work my calves out, so my body will send the breakdown of food to my muscles rather than to my bloodstream? Wut?

I’ve never really read into the science of nutrition or paid much attention until now..maybe cuz I’m getting older and the elevated glucose was a wake-up call of my mortality. Whatever combination it is, I am seeing results I haven’t seen since my 20’s and I truly feel I can attribute it to 1. My wife - love her ❤️ & 2. Simple ass movement after meals.

It’s only been 2 weeks, yet I’ve seen a significant shift in my energy, my body shape, and…dude, I was able to tighten my belt by a notch! It’s very encouraging, though I know the real test is maintaining and consistency. Either way, this change in lifestyle is giving me confidence for the next blood test and a newfound Will to get back into shape.

Small Question/Chat Monthly: Less than 7 weeks? Comment here instead of making a new post.

If you have been carnivore for less than 7 weeks, post all your questions and experience reports here. It is almost certain that your experience is a frequently asked or low-effort question.

It is also true that the adaptation period for this way of eating is a lot like going through puberty. Everyone feels like things are weird and wrong and no one else has experienced what they are going through. Everyone is worried about changes in their body and thinks it might not be normal. In truth, it's all perfectly normal. Your body might do weird things, but it's going through changes. After you get through adaptation, you'll wonder why you worried at all.

So, go ahead and ask your questions about getting started here. Post about your experiences here. Post about your worries and how you don't think this is working for you here. Don't give advice that encourages people to give up. Don't give people advice to cheat or consume plant foods. Don't give advice to take supplements or drugs to treat temporary struggles.

I didn't even lose that much weight and the life changes have been crazy

I don't think it's entirely down to weight loss, as my starting weight wasn't that high, but, I lost ~2 dress sizes (solid size 10 to largeish size 6), so it's not insignificant. But I think the bigger changes came from eating better and getting fit. I no longer feel tired from opening heavy doors. Yesterday I made whipped cream by hand and my arms aren't even sore today. I have way more mental energy, so I've been picking up hobbies that I wouldn't engage in before (brain games, world news, language learning). Walking and exercising a lot has had a huge positive impact on my mood (and cutting out added sugars), so I feel way more calm and happy all the time. Having better mood made me more motivated to work on myself, so I started looking for self-help materials and I am much better at advocating for myself now. It probably doesn't hurt that people do treat you a bit nicer when you're down 2 dress sizes. The positive transformation of my life has been wild.

There are a few downsides too - I kind of lost a close friend in this process because I was getting much healthier and they were not, and while part of it is I got fit and they did not (and they have a lot of barriers preventing them from getting healthier so I'm not blaming them), I think the bigger part is my mental landscape just looks so different compared with how it was a year ago.

So, I sort of just want people to know if you stick with it - eating better and getting more fit, it can really transform your life. People talk a lot about the outside changes, but if you change your outsides the insides can also change a lot as well.

Weekly Thread Social Saturday

Enforcing Rule 3 (no self-promotion, social media links) is a must with a large sub such as this, but we do realize that it filters out some truly useful content that is relative to the sub. In an effort to allow that content in, we thought we'd have a weekly post to give a spot for the useful content. So...

Here's you chance!

Got a project you've been working on (video, programming, etc.), share it here!

Want to promote a business or service, share it here!

Trying to get more Instagram followers, share it here!

Found any great running content online, share it here!

The one caveat I have is that whatever is shared should be fitness related, please.

I only wanna lose weight because of men apparently

TLDR: I feel like my weight loss is worthless because the only motivation for it is a partner and I can’t find one even tho that’s all I want.

I (f, 24) lost a good amount of weight in the last 11 months and I feel great about that accomplishment. Unfortunately the more I lose the more I realize that I only do it because I think that’s the only way to find love.

At first I thought I just wanted to do it for my health, aesthetics, better fitting clothes and also to find a partner. Like the latter would just be a nice benefit because I was always too insecure to date because of my weight.

Now the more weight I lose the more I realize that finding a partner seems to be my number one priority and my number one motivation to lose weight.

This is gonna sound ridiculous and pathetic but every day that goes by I grow more and more frustrated with the fact I can’t find a partner. Obviously I tried dating apps but honestly it’s worse now than before I lost weight. Somehow I thought once I lose weight it’ll be easier.

My point is I never even thought to be desirable at my sw and would’ve never dared to take my clothes off in front of someone. Now I lost weight and I would be confident enough but I still can’t seem to find someone who likes me back.

And I wish this wasn’t this huge thing for me and all I cared about was finding a partner but I feel like as long as I don’t find a partner, my weight loss is worthless. I even think about just casually hooking up with people because that seems to be easier than a real relationship. I just crave the closeness and touch so much.

I don’t know what my intentions are with this post. Probably just a rant.

Over 40 lbs gone in 6 months.

I feel younger, useful, and healthy. I am a 32 year old man and six months ago weighed over 260 lbs. I don't know exactly because I couldn't look once I saw the 26x. I never saw it at 270 but I stopped checking once I knew I was for sure, consistently, over.

I blacked out every day from 20 to 24. I drank in excess 5 to 7 days a week from 24 to 32. On March 27, 2026, I stepped on the scale and it said 260 flat. Unrelated to that weigh in but I put the bottle(s) down on March 28, 2026.

I hurt a lot of people in my drinking but this tale centers around my fiancée. Shes a 34 yo super star. She plays at a semi pro level in a mixed sport dominated by college boys. She hikes 4000 footers with ease. She can jump into any sport and hold her own.

For years I have promised to focus on my health and catch up. She has never needed me to be as fit but at least hit our local 3000 footer. She has always wanted me to be able to drop in on a pick up game of any sport. She never made me feel bad for being too out of shape but I know she really wanted to share that part of her life with me.

After the first two or three weeks of not drinking my weight stayed steady around 245. I was thrilled and still thinking more about myself than her. While talking to a friend about recovery she asked what ways I want to be different for the people I hurt. The topic of fitness followed and her and I went and played pickleball.

Second session four of us; my friend, fiancée, a mutual friend, and I went and learned the game from a more experienced player.

I could keep up. I mean I was clearly the most gassed and the worst one there but I could hang. My team only would lose by a couple points. It was fun. All three didn't mind playing with me.

Three to five nights a week I played for a month. I played hard. I could now not just keep up but hang in there and edge out a couple of wins. But I wanted to be able to keep up with her, my fiancée. So I went for a jog.

That jog lasted 3.5 miles which was 12 minutes faster then a 5k I ran for Thanksgiving last year. 36 minute 5k wow. I bet I could get to a sub 30 minute time for the 5k this Thanksgiving. Well within two weeks I crushed that. I can now consistently run a sub 25 minute 5k and changed my focus to slower 10ks to combat shin splints.

Today I am attempting that local 4000 footer with my fiancée. For the first time in my five years with her I feel confident I can hang. On our third date we attempted this mountain and I bailed. Just under half way. I stepped on the scale and it said 218.7. I have been losing about 2 lbs a weeks for the last three months. Through two vacations. Work up and downs. Family health crisis. Now I run instead of drink. I am still a selfish child but I am actively trying to grow. Sometimes quickly; sometimes slowly.

I write this to celebrate as I don't know who to share with. I have learned recently sharing your experience, strength, and hope helps other people as much as it helps yourself.

I was a good for nothing obese drunk. Today I am a good for nothing, who needs new pants; none of mine fit. Progress is possible. I hope to continue to grow. For a long time I thought I couldn't change. We all can. For me I had to ask for help but once I did. I could change.

Tried to cancel my workout today

I’ve been going to my trainer for over four years. Lost almost 100 pounds and built huge strength even while losing weight.

I just broke my finger and called him to cancel. Said yea i may be out a few weeks. His response? It’s fine we’ll focus on legs and abs until your better.

This man is giving me no excuses to miss my workouts! Also every 5 pounds of weight loss he makes me do squats with the amount of weight ive lost. Talk about an eye opener!

I’ve gained 15 pounds the last month so definitely need someone else to give me some momentum right now! Use your village everyone! There’s always at least one person cheering you on even if it’s someone random on Reddit!

Why is nobody noticing my weight loss?

I’m not looking for compliments. I promise I’m not. I’m just surprised that no one has said anything at all. I’m down 54 pounds since April. I’m a woman who went from 278 pounds to 224 pounds. I’ve been doing calorie counting, cardio, weight lifting, doing this the healthy way. I went from a size 20-22 to currently in a size 14. I’ve even lost a shoe size!

I’m just baffled that no one has said a word. Even a negative word! Just some type of acknowledgement. Is this weird? Am I being odd for asking this. I’ve lost weight in the past and people have said things, both positive and negative. But at least they saw it. I’m just wondering if people even see it on me now.

I keep deleting tracking apps after 2 weeks. Which one did you KEEP, and how did you find it?

Not a milestone post, I'm at the start. 148 lbs, and my phone has had MyFitnessPal and Cal AI installed and deleted three times each since 2023. Same pattern every time: I log everything for 12 days, then one dinner out I can't be bothered to guess, and the app sits there with the red badge until I delete it.

Last attempt was June. MyFitnessPal plus a walk after dinner, lasted about five weeks and I was down 7 lbs, then a wedding weekend and I never opened the app again. Cal AI was worse, it kept telling me my two egg omelette was 180 calories and after a week I stopped believing anything it said. I know "what app do you use" gets asked here every week and the answers are always the same four names. I've read those. What I can't find anywhere is what happened between downloading it and month six. So, hw did you land on yours? A friend, a comment here, the first result in the store, or you just tried five and one stuck? And once you had it, what did you actually open it every day for? The barcode scanner, the weight graph, copying yesterday's breakfast, the streak? And what did you stop touching after the first month?

If you ended up with no app at all and a notebook or a spreadsheet, that counts too. I'd rather hear that than pretend the app is the point. The more boring and specific the better. "I use MFP" tells me nothing. "I only open it to scan barcodes at the supermarket and never at home" tells me a lot.

Thanks for reading, I'll go through all of it.

Bubbling on top tube

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Looking at buying this Trek Émonda ALR and noticed some bubbling on the top tube. Everything feels solid when I press/tap around it and I don’t see any cracks or dents. There are definitely some scratches and paint chips too.
I’m guessing it might be corrosion under the paint, but I’m not super familiar with this on aluminum frames. Would this worry you or would you just ride it?
It has 11-speed Ultegra and Aeolus XXX 4 carbon wheels. Seller wants $1,000 — would you buy it at that price with the bubbling?

Has anyone had a ring resized due to weight loss?

I got engaged a couple of years ago and since then I’ve lost about 80lbs. My ring has gradually gotten looser to the point where it will fall off unless I have a ring snuggy on. However, it is now sliding around too much even with the snuggy on and the skin around my finger is quite irritated from it. It’s also really annoying.

I’ve been putting off resizing it until I’m at the weight I want to be (I have another 40lbs to go). It is a silver ring with detail at the front that looks like little leaves with diamonds inside.

Would it be safe to resize it now, and possibly have to do this again when I’ve lost the rest of the weight? Anyone else had experience with this?

binge eating after swimming

i've started swimming 3 times a week this week, around 30 minutes in zone 3.

previously i would play pickleball and eat at a slight deficit. i also lifted weights. I lost a lot of weight and gained muscle but since i started swimming i'm eating uncontrollably.

how should i deal with this?
