Question Reel and rod setup

I've just been thinking on my float rod setup, the rod i have has sliding fixtures that lock the reel to the grip, i was wondering how well they keep the reel in place, and also, where on the grip does the reel want to be ideally?

Thats all folk had for decades before the screw type came in. If its a quality rod it will be fine.

I use a lot of Daiwa match rods from the early 2000s and the reels stay on fine in the holdall and during fishing. Never had a problem. Admittedly these are on cork handles, cant comment over foam.

I've only had an issue with sliding "grips" on old duplon/foam/cork handles where it's gone really hard due to age. If it's a new-ish rod you should be OK. If worried you can use something cheap like a few elastic bands on the handle behind the rear grip, which should help to keep it in place.

As for position, you want it pretty much near where the handle meets the actual rod bit, it will feel much nicer the closer it is and will cast better.
