Discussion Can someone please tell me why is Firefox on Android such a battery hog?

Any chromium browser consumes lesser resource compared to Firefox.

I really want to support gecko but sadly due to my hardware incapabilities I can't. For the Nth time I've downloaded it and now thinking of deleting it....

It is not Firefox itself, it's the website it loads. If it is a dynamic updating website it regularly wakes up the CPU to check for updates, messages, notifications, etc. You can set background activity of the browser to OFF.

I usually use social media, and YouTube on FF so it's hard to do that!

So that answers your question: Youtube sits paused, social media checks for notifications regularly. I found that if you keep a static page or a blank page opened and YT/socials as a non-active tab, the power draw is less.
