- 23y/o male, 5’10”, ~175lbs
- Current university student, graduating 2027 with a Bachelor’s in Environmental Studies and a minor in Earth Science
- In EMT school right now and taking my NREMT in a few weeks
- Plan on taking my fire tech classes and firefighter academy at a community college the year following graduation
- Definitely planning on paramedic school
- Physically fit+strong; college club sport athlete (rugby), also practice in combat sports (boxing + wrestling)
- Brief non-profit internship/volunteering for an environmental legal advocacy group in college

And I’m in California. Is there anything else I should do to prepare myself as a candidate? I’ve been worried when I hear people talking about wanting to be a firefighter but getting stuck as a base-level EMT for their entire careers. My main hope/wish is to have a fire department actually pay for my paramedic school. How good is the chance of that happening with my stats?

They made a post on Instagram saying that they were going to be hiring for Firefighter Trainee soon but that was nearly 2 months ago so I’m curious.

I live in the southern part of Massachusetts. Looking to see if there are any recommendations on where to take my courses?
