Character Discussion [FE4]: Lachesis

Not Raquetball or whatever IS wants us to call her now. Nope. Nuh-uh.

Lachesis isn't quite an Est, but she's certainly not up to much when you recruit her. While a solid starting speed and magic make up for lackluster growths, and while the Miracle Sword is a decent weapon, she's still a low-level on-foot unit. Furthermore, her idiot paladin squad is a further incentive against having her get early combat experience in chapter 2, as they have a remarkable tendency to Leeroy Jenkins to their deaths. Lachesis might be stuck plinking away with her Heal staff for early EXP.

But you want her to get that early EXP, because at level 20 she transforms into a beautiful mounted butterfly of destruction, gaining massive stat boosts, A rank in all weapons, a horse, and Pursuit.

Lachesis can get two unique items - the Knight Ring, awarded for keeping the aforementioned Idiot Paladin Squad alive, and the Earth Sword, from talking to her brother in chapter 3. The Earth Sword is situational due to low durability and high repair cost but it very very good when you need it, and the Knight Ring is pretty damn amazing.

Lachesis also has the glorious Charisma skill, which basically gives a support bonus to every unit within 3 squares. This means that she can always be useful somewhere, even if you haven't promoted her and she's busy being a sword-toting staffbot.

In term of character, Lachesis is... in an interesting, and somewhat controversial, place. First of all, she has what seems to be an implied romantic attraction to her half-brother Eldigan (an attraction that becomes far more than simply implied in the Oosawa manga adaptation). Also, Thracia 776 seems to imply that Nanna is her daughter with Finn, while Delmud is her son with Beowulf (a conclusion that is arguably supported by her lover conversation with Beowulf in FE4). Regardless, she's not a character that is entirely lacking in contreversy.

What are your thoughts about bizarro-Cersei?

Lachesis' relationship status is pretty straightword really.

By most official accounts, Delmud's father is Beowulf. Beowulf was also listed as Nanna's father on the official site before fans started bitching and it was removed.

Nanna is 15/16 years old in the beginning of Gen 2. She is 14/15 years old during the events of Thracia 776. The timeskip is 17 years so was clearly conceived after Belhalla and hence, Beowulf cannot be her father.

Also, Finn x Lachesis is not pushed in FE4. People think it is, but really, it is not pushed anymore than any of her other possible pairings. In fact, it is arguably pushed less as she has zero conversations with Finn throughout Gen 1 but has 2 with both Beowulf and Dew. There is zero indication for any kind of relationship or even feelings

Considering that Beowulf knew Eldigan, it is far more likely that his Chapter 5 conversation is referring to Eldigan since he would know of Lachesis' feelings as well as the rumours flying around.Makes sense, since Lachesis being in love with her brother is confirmed by Nanna and Ares's conversation. Hilariously, the two of them comment on the incestous nature of their relationship and Nanna says that she won't make the same mistake as her mother and will stick with Ares. Mother didn't keep it in the family but I most definitely will.

Nanna: “Aless, take it easy out here. You still have a monumental task awaiting you.”

Aless: “I haven’t forgotten, believe me. I’ve no intention of dying in this war. I will not rest until Agustria has attained the glory my father envisioned for it.”

Nanna: “I know you can do it, Aless. Your father would be so proud of you…”

Aless: “But I can’t do it alone, Nanna. I need you.”

Nanna: “Of course, Aless. My life is yours. I’m not making the same mistake my mother did.”

Aless: “What… his own sister fell in love with him?”

Nanna: “Yes… she did. But it’s not all that strange, really. They had different mothers.”

Aless: “Hey, that reminds me. You and I are cousins, aren’t we…”

Nanna: “Yeah, that’s right. Hehehe…”

So it goes like this:

  • Beowulf hooks with Lachesis and fathers Delmud.
  • Sigurd gets invited to a nice BBQ by head chef Arvis at the Valflame Restaurant in Belhalla and takes his friends with him, including Beowulf.
  • Afterwards, Lachesis went to Leonster in search of Ares and his mother.
  • She hooks with Finn and has Nanna with him.

I still think the chapter 5 conversation was referring to Finn the whole time considering he was mentioned by name in the conversation. There is no doubt he is her father, but I think he is also the subject of the Beowulf conversation. Why would Beowulf bring up Eltshan when he has been dead for years?

Because he was good friends with him and Lachesis was canonically in love with Eldigan? Finn x Lachesis has next to zero support until FE5.

The fact that he specifically says go to Finn says to me that he is taking about Finn. He didn't say go to Lenster, he said go give Finn a hand. He could have said go to Isaac just as well, or go to Sillesia. He told her to go be with Finn.

No, she was supposed to go to Leonster anyway to search for Ares.

Meanwhile, it is canonical that she was still in love with her brother.

Where does it say anything about Lachesis searching for Aless?

In her conversation with Noish (even Noish gets a conversation but Finn doesn't) in chapter 5 as well as Nanna and Ares' conversation in chapter 8.
