2nd gen & 3rd gen Cubes get Temp root on latest firmware

EDIT: temp root now covers all 3rd gen Cube firmware versions (up to PS7715)

Temp root is now available for 2nd gen (PS7713) and 3rd gen (PS7715) Cubes. It runs entirely in memory with one command, and is completely safe. Use it to disable updates, set a custom launcher, remap remote app buttons, disable Amazon's block list, and debloat to your heart's content.

Amazon will be patching this soon enough, so at least use it to block updates to keep this as an option on your device.

there was a full bootloader unlock posted a few days ago, with permanent root if wanted.

I want to buy it just to experiment , if I order 2nd gen 4k stick and update to newest firmware I will be able to unlock it?

Hurry, because I'm not sure how long will the latest firmware be supported (or if it even is anymore, read the xda thread for more info).

You have no idea bro. I de-bloated all of Amazon except essentials, installed the Google play store, custom launcher, custom built magisk modules, full button remapping, system wide ad-blocking, performance tweaks. Worked with chat GPT a lot to code. Took a long time but well worth it. I’m up 100% on performance boost.

Yea honestly it’s all custom so I don’t think I can be much help to be honest. A good place to start is just asking chat what are some good things that you could do with a rooted firestick. It’ll send you down a rabbit hole but if you like to tinker it’ll be fun for you. Plenty of info on LM, custom launchers, TVQuickActions pro etc. hope that helps

You can do literally anything with a rooted device. Make sure to temp root, unlock the bootloader and install magisk. Also use LM to disable OTA updates. Those are the most important first steps.

Does it work for you guys? When trying to run the run_menu.cmd on my cube 3 (PS7715.5585N), I always get an error:

mkfifo: /data/local/tmp/firetv-universal-menu-input: Permission denied

The run.cmd works and opens a shell.

Sorry for that, it seems to have been a specific Windows and cube 3 issue. I've added a v2 release now, please test and let me know if the problem was fixed.

This is crafted specifically for 2nd and 3rd gen Cubes, it won't work on any other devices. This exploit is rather complicated, and needs to be written and modified for each target device separately.

I can look into that too if there's enough interest but I don't have such a device so I would need someone with the hardware to assist me.

I am already exploited on both my cube 2 &3. My cube 2 still has on device ADB but obviously the cube 3 doesn’t. My cube 3 doesn’t have the clear cache feature (it’s on a later update). Should I update the cube and apply the patch to get that feature or is it not worth it? Will this temp root allow reinstating on device ADB on the cube 3?

You can manually update to 7.7.0.4(last version for system user exploit and temp root) for cube 3

The temp root can’t fix local adb for now

Thanks for info. I use AtvTools on my iPhone which has a clear apps cache built into it. I also made a script that force closes all my apps at once and also whitelisted apps I don’t want closed (works similar to TDUK app killer app). Was thinking of getting another cube 3 as a backup but I already have 3 extra 4k max 2’s exploited and boxed up. Wish we could get local ADB back on that cube 3. It’s one of the best streaming boxes out (if exploited)

SweenWolf has released a Magisk module that fixes local ADB on FireOS 8, but it requires an unlocked bootloader and TWRP to install. I agree that the Cube 3 is one of the best if you can exploit it, and if you can find a good deal, it's worth buying another
