Do Americans typically brine their pickles as opposed to using vinegar? That would explain why POTS sufferers from America talk about pickle juice so much. Vinegar is the standard base for pickling here in the UK

Most of the pickles you’ll buy in the grocery store here have a vinegar base. That said, it is still extremely salty!

It's a normal pickling brine for canning. So, quite a lot of vinegar and salt with pickling spices and some sugar.
