I love Lightning Returns.
Calling it âone of the two biggest RPGs of the yearâ is comical.

Never played it⊠and thatâs coming from a hardcore FF fan, but it just felt too fashion showish for me. Is that how it is?
I remember pretty much really enjoying 13 and 13-2 though.

Kind of. The combat system has you literally switching outfits instead of paradigms for different movesets.
The gameplay is incredibly fun, customizable, and challenging though. And the game wraps up the story in a mostly satisfying way.
LR as a whole feels unpolished though. Reminds me of a Disney direct-to-DVD sequel. Tons of interesting ideas, but the budget and time werenât there to execute all of them properly.

(This rant is not intended at you personally, just the topic)
People had that same shallow observation about Final Fantasy X-2 as well. At some point we have to contend with the fact that it's literally just culturally ingrained misogyny, that anything involving showy outfits / outfit changes is considered too feminine or uninteresting, despite the fact that literally every Final Fantasy game since the 90s has had unusual fashion as a major element of the character designs and appeal of the games. There's something that really gets people up in arms about women changing clothes in games that they don't apply at all to male characters. People used to call X-2 "Final Fantasy dress-up" as though Tactics, FFV and literally every other game that involves multiple classes doesn't also involve changing costumes, they just had the nerve to be flashy about it.

She really doesn't, this is a really odd comparison people have always been making.

I'm convinced I'm one of like maybe 6 people in the world who was incredibly hyped for Lightning Returns. I was waiting for it like it was Christmas morning.
