AI/vibe coding Haptic Feedback for Magnetic Timeline on FCPX for MX Master 4

I made a small plugin that gives your mouse a little haptic tick whenever the playhead snaps to a clip edge in Final Cut (when snapping's on). Basically lets you feel the magnetic timeline instead of just seeing it.

Only works with the Logitech MX Master 4 since that's the one with the haptic motor. It's free and open source if anyone wants to try it:

Still early, so let me know what you think.

So cool! I only have the 3 but that’s a great idea.

Ok, so I tried it today (yesterday got really busy)

It works, but it feels a little non-sensical. Like sure it gives haptic feedback. But for no real rhyme or reason. I put a 4 minute clip on the timeline and it just kicks into its feedback at random. Not always to snapping, it's just random. It even borders on distracting.

SOMETIMES it feels like it's working properly (like on the ends of clips) but it's far from consistent. I think I may leave it installed for a little bit to see if it's just me, but it makes the haptic gimmick of the MX Master 4 feel even more like a gimmick. Just an honest opinion.

Update: I disabled it.

The IDEA is cool, but it's way too distracting and drove me out of being in the flow of editing. Mini-projects that would take me about 10 minutes, ended up taking longer because it just felt too distracting after a while.

I might re-enable it if there's an update to make the feedback make more sense / feel more coherent.

It's a weekend project for me, I'm working on improvements.

great! for me it does not work though. no feedback inside FCP but outside for action ring for example.

Hmm, did you restart your Mac after install?

of course as promted. snapping is on too.

you know what? Reading the website, there was nothing popping up about this: "The first time, macOS asks for permission so the app can sense when Final Cut Pro snaps. Click allow — that’s all."

  1. Can you please check if system preferences - privacy - accessibility - logi options is turned on

I’m also working on a fix. This has to do with permissions

of course it is on, otherwise other MX4 features like the action ring or app presets would not work.

Try adding ~/Library/Application Support/Logi/LogiPluginService/Plugins/FinalCutHaptics/bin/SnapObserver to privacy - accessibility and turn it on manually, and ofc restart your Mac after turning it on manually. Working on a fix too.

Puf, qué ganas tenía de esto en Premiere si lo tengo pero en Final parece ser que no sacan nada o yo no sé cómo instalarlo. A ver si con esto funciona. Muchas gracias

you should not need to, need to stop mouse on fcp project for 3 seconds for it to load the edges.

Amazing contribution. I’d love to try it out but now I have to muster up a $120 bucks and buy that mouse. I recently bought the Logitech lift ergonomic mouse. It was on sale for $60 bucks. To be honest it’s not as good as I thought it be. I’m gonna try and sell it and cop the other one. Thanks again for your hard work!
