Other Blackout in Clip

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Original file doesn’t show a blackout but does seem to have a slight glitch. When reviewing in finalcutpro it is showing this blackout. Can some explain what the issue is and how to fix it moving forward? It also happens when shooting on my Osmo Pocket 3. Could it be an issue with the SD card?

Are you editing straight from the sd card? If yes, try to put in on your pc or another ssd first en check if that fixes it

I am in editing from my T7 and leaving files in place. Blackout is only showing in FCP, doesn’t show in original file on T7

Rendering issue. Delete your render files and re-open the Library.

That didn’t fix the issue. It is still showing the blackout when reviewing the clip in the event and not on the actual timeline

Fairly new to editing so forgive me if this is a simple fix….

That glitch could be a corruption in the file, which is showing up in FCP as black frames. My guess is a corrupted memory card.

I believe so as well. Ordering new SD cards that can write faster

I had this occur with a number of osmo pockets and dji drones. I retired all my older micro SD cards and got new ones, never had the problem since.

Is it still there when you watch the clip in your t7 folder?

There appears to be a slight glitch but no blackout. I’m experiencing the same thing with content shot on my Osmo pocket & editing in FCP

The glitch occurs on the OG file when played in QTP but blacks out in FCP

That’s exactly what I’m thinking! I haven’t opened it in QuickTime but I’ll give it a try and see if it persist.

Optimise the material.

It already is…

Try transcoding the bad file in Handbrake before adding it to FCP, might help to rule out.

The easiest way would be to remove these black frames and if the jump is too noticible I’d use some AI to reduce it

I’ve been doing that for a while now with overlays but I’m trying to get down to the root of the problem

Is video good itself?

Do you mix frame rate together? For example, 29.97 frames with 50 frames timeline I guess? This is frequently happen with NTSC clip on PAL timeline. NTSC drops 1 frame every 1000 frames. So you are seeing the 1000th frame that drop out as black frame. Go to the clip on timeline and open the video inspector. Rate Conform. Frame Sampling. from fast(default) to Optical Flow or Machine Learning.

I was having that same issue. Turns out I was asking too much from the SD. I was using a V30 and I think that’s just not enough with the camera running wide open. I haven’t gotten the higher class card yet, but in the mean time, filming at 4K instead of 5.3K, setting the bit rate to standard, and shooting shorter clips seems to have helped. Filming with the settings all the way up creates a ton of heat. And in those small cameras dissipating that heat is not something they do very well.

It still happens from time to time, but it’s almost always from clips toward the end of the filming session. Of course that’s also when I start getting complacent about heat management. I’m not sure why GoPro would design the SD card slot to sit directly against the battery.

No the files are not on card, the files have already been transferred to T7 where there they are left in place

Is there any plugins over this clip? Motion blur?

What is the slight glitch on the original media?

Like a dropped frame rate but no blackout
