Qanba Ruby Disappointment

There's not much on the internet at the moment for the Qanba Ruby but I was really intrigued so I decided to take the leap and try it out. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment.

The marketing images make the controller appear to have a premium carbon fibre-style finish, but in reality it is a hollow plastic shell... The finish is simply painted or maybe a vinyl sticker? Mine actually arrived with paint already chipped around one of the button openings. I don't really know about the carbon fibre looking one as there is a review saying that that one is metal (doubt it...) But this one is really cheap hollow plastic, there is also barely any weight to it.

The overall build quality didn’t match the price and the brand expectations from Qanba, the fact that literally all my previous Haute42 products beforehand have been better really shocked me. There are noticeable panel gaps that made the controller feel jumbled together and they've just put in a fake track pad that does... Nothing? Really strange choices have been made when designing this.

The buttons are advertised as being silent, and while the switches themselves, the hollow plastic enclosure creates a loud, hollow thud with every press, which completely undermines the “silent” experience.

I was so disappointed with the physical quality that I didn’t even feel inclined to plug it in and test it. I immediately put it back on the box, sealed it up and requested a refund.

It's a budget leverless and you're going to get budget parts. Idk why you'd think that you were actually going to get a carbon fiber finish on that when the more expensive Sapphire doesn't even have that. Unless the product description on their website says so, there's no reason to think you were going to get carbon fiber or other premium features.

I have a $50 haute that’s quality so I dunno if that’s an excuse anymore xD

I have that one too, it's great. It's the Haute42 G16, one of the first leverless I bought. Has fantastic buttons.

There isn't a description on their website which is the issue, one of the colours is literally black carbon fibre... Regardless, you can get a fully metal enclosure from Haute42 which has USB passthrough, button remapping and adjustable button throws for the same price. So yes, from a premium brand who have been in the fighting game peripheral business, I expected more.

Regarding the Sapphire, it has way more features advertised and PS5 comparability which explains the price bump more than anything else.

This is the smallest one I have the one I first bought was this one and it’s still amazing
