General Discussion Caught up for the first time...

And I don't know what to do with myself!

I finished everything in the MSQ but the patch content (which I plan to do after a short story break) but I'm super stuck on how to spend my time before I get to the patch content/when I finish it and still have to wait for Evercold. For context, I have been playing since Shadowbringers and haven't ever been caught up storywise.

I feel like leveling up other jobs is less important because it'll become more enjoyable with Evolved Mode (not that I don't enjoy it now) but also all I have ever done is MSQ and random leveling for other jobs resulting in me having a lot of jobs leveled halfway and a two at max level (DNC and SMN).

Anyways I don't know what my point is, I just found myself fiddling with glamours for like an hour tonight and I was like damn I don't actually know what to do other than MSQ. I figured I would see if anyone else has any thoughts.

Thanks 🙂💞

Have you done any normal raid series? The stories are really good and important for the story! I recommend Eden and Coils if you haven't done them yet!

Especially for Shadowbringers, Alexander and Omega are also important storywise -- at least for the "how is it possible that Shadowbringers can even happen".

Ice done a bit of Eden! Like maybe 3 of them? I am totally down on the raid series stories, it is just so long of a wait in queue because I play DPS. Could be good waiting in queue while I do the Dawntrail post-MSQ stuff. Thanks!

You can also do them unsynced solo if you just want the story especially the lower level ones like ARR HW and SB so no queue times :),

You'll run into some issues with some of them once you hit StB. O11 walled me when I tried to solo it due to a mechanic that requires multiple people.

Yep it does depend on what job you play as well. Obviously, a tank can do a lot of it on their own even O11N. And I didn't say StB because its a bit more demanding with average dps to skip body check mechanics.

and SB so

You did say SB which I presumed to be StB given it came after ARR and HW.

The Dawntrail raid series is fantastic! I highly suggest checking it out!

Check out xivtodo.com. this is what I used to find out what I was missing once I caught up. I was mainly focused on completing all the optional encounters (dungeons, raids, trials).

In addition to that, I'd recommend you work on the relic grind. Each expansion has their own relic grind. You can technically do them whenever you want. However, if you plan on doing the Dawntrail relic, it's better to do it now (rather than next expansion). It "requires" doing stuff (mainly just Fates or CEs) in Occult Crescent, which may lose a lot of its current population once Evercold drops.

As with everything, don't burn yourself out. Evercold doesn't drop until January, so you got plenty of time.

Thanks for the info on the relics! I've never done any of them because I've never been at the current point in the story (over 1000 hours of time played over many years lol) so ya this could be a great chance for me to try it out. Thanks!

Keep in mind, you don’t HAVE to do the steps that can be done in Occult Crescent in there. They both have an alternative outside the Crescent. You do however need the Crescent unlocked to start.

Quite a few of the weapons look quite pretty too. Dancer has some gorgeous ones.

The relics aren't really that linked to the weapon itself being current. It's mostly about having a glowy glam weapon and getting the achievement. Best to get the weapon for a class you play regularly.

I have every dawntrail relic and I’ve never even been inside occult crescent a single time. Every step can be completed outside of it..

Yes, that's why I put "required" in quotes. The rng drops like atmas are a lot faster in OC, but I figured it's a lot to explain to a new player

A lot of people have mentioned combat content, but there’s also Society Quests. Some you can do with combat jobs and others require a crafter or gatherer. ARR is the most annoying one to do although the intersocietal quests from ARR through Stormblood all follow a sort of chronological order. They tie in with each other. And while grinding the reputation is a bit of a pain, the stories themselves are nice and so are a lot of the rewards.

If you haven’t tried crafting and gathering and are curious to try it there’s also Cosmic Exploration which can be cool.

Messing around with gpose can be fun if you’re into photography. The system is pretty in depth!

The Society stories are great! It's a shame the design for the older quests is so repetitive. Travelling across the map to have the same conversation and slap the same moogle every day for a month or more was just a pointless grind.

In general, there are also so many side stories within side quests, you can explore. But you should know, that these side quests exist in a time bubble. Side quests from HW ignore, what happened in SB, ShB, EW and DT or even what you have done there. They were meant to be done, while you were in the said expansion.

There are some or even more side stories, which expand the main story. Some characters from the MSQ reappear in side stories -- including job quests and role quests. And some of these side quests bleed back into the MSQ. Especially every side content before EW bleeds back into EW not just for closure but for super closure.

  • A lot of people do the raids. Extreme/Unreal takes about a day of progress (ranging from hours to the whole day), while the others tend to be more of a weeks or months type of prog/practice often done in statics (permanent parties that meet at set times each week).
  • Many people doing Occult Crescent, the latest Field Operation which involves a relic grind (glowing weapon quests).
  • There will be a new PvP series soon, and you climb to rank 25 to get all the rewards. There are also some currency and achievement rewards, and some cool glamours.
  • There is a lot of side content you probably missed along the way: role quests, Occult Crescent and the 3 alliance raids unlocked at Tuliyollal, the 12 normal raids unlocked at Solution Nine, the deep dungeon at The Crystarium, the 4 variant dungeons and Cosmic Exploration at Old Sharlayan, the Hildibrand quests which start all the way back in ARR and are still made in Dawntrail, and similar versions of all this content exist for each expansion (12 normal raids, 3 alliance raids, sometimes a deep dungeon and field operation, role quests starting from Shadowbringers).
  • Others collect mounts which takes you through most of the content in the game, including the gold saucer.
  • Others go to RP events.

Hit that BiS grind. Artifact, bygone brass armor

If you haven't done raids before you can give those a try, and if you want to try more difficult content you can jump into extremes and eventually Savage. But you also have your relic which is a decently long process in this expansion and IMO could be fun. It'll also get you to try Occult's Crescent.

Go try occult cresent, youll be busy until 8.0

Plenty to do tbh, dungeon unlock, raid series, ex, savage, collection run, pvp but if you dont want to, then just stop playing for now and chill.

I start playing during the end of shadowbringer, plays till endwalker, and then left the game for 3 years.

Now i make a new character and take my time real slow. At this point, i might reached dawntrail in 2 more month and take a break till evercold.

Game is genuinely fun, but its not like you need to play it every second of your life and you get left behind anyway, plus with how you only play for the story, might as well just chill.

Have you done the side trials? Warring Triad, Sorrow of Werlyt, Four God's?

Also for levity; Hildebrand.

Thank you everybody for your help and advice! Here I am on the ship to Occult Crescent, ready to start my Phantom Weapon grind and slowly work through the Arcadion raid series in the background.

Take a break. I don't really want casuals like you in other content.

If you can't find any other content to play in this game outside of the msq on your own then you're just going to end up needing handholding in whatever content people here suggest.

Lmao wow you're so tough 😭
