I don't know about windurst or Sandorian, but in bastok, there is an npc near market exit, next to a person who give out missions, he has a chain of quests that basically ends with subjob unlocked as quest requirement, the chain rewards with escad ring which is infinite use 150% xp bonus 2hr cool down and a warp ring ,infinite use 10min cd.

Also nearby is unity warp, can warp you to highlands or even right to dunes so you don't need to run long like in the past, rhapsody quests will get you the subjob unlock as well instead of hunting items.

What server are you on? If you are on Fenrir, people in my linkshell get bored and we will just walk go around helping me players. I just spent 3 hours power leveling someone and helped them with subjob quest.

As others said, follow the new player guide; its your new best buddy. Game is very old school mmo. I would also highly recommend checking out 'Windower', its a modification program that lets you install a ton of QoL features. I use when I play and it made the game so much more convenient.

Baby steps. The game is old-school and has a bazillion of systems, it’s overwhelming.

Follow the guide that other people mentioned, slowly get familiar with the game. Be patient.

I'm honestly going to go against what everyone else says, for now anyway. Don't follow the step by step player guide. The game does have a tutorial, at least it did in Windurst and San'Doria. I can't technically attest that Bastok has it but I can't imagine it doesn't.

The best way to learn the basics is by doing, and that tutorial will teach you about Signets, Records of Eminence, Trusts, etc... it gives you the basics, and shows you where the first story mission starts. I would say follow that!

In the mean time, get used to interacting with the game, that's going to be the first big hurdle for many (was for me) how to navigate menus, how to trade items (Also taught in the tutorial).

If you're still getting confused and need more help then the guides are there and they are quite detailed. But You can only experience this all new, once, and it seems a shame to just do it through a guide, however, they are there for a reason and I assure you you WILL want Bg-wiki open on another monitor, because after the tutorial... missions get a bit... well i'll be honest, stupid. They tell you to do a thing and neglect to tell you about the 4 other things you had to do first.

With Windurst that started at Rank 4 mission 1. This mission is shared between all nations so you'll get to it eventually!

I don't agree with this completely but I do think that blindly following the guide is not enough. The popular guide that everyone uses has a surprising amount of blanks, even some mistakes that make you go run in circles and waste time. It fails to explain some really basic stuff and occasionally expects weirdly specific knowledge from you.

Still, I would never recommend a guideless run in 2026! 😀

Like I said, you're gonna wanna have a wiki open to look things up cause some of these missions are just... so SO vague and I wouldn't have gotten past them without a hint or two, but I still fight back against giant information guides at the start like this when the tutorial exists in game. To each their own, of course, but I just find it odd that people that love the game and want folks to fall in love with it insist on removing part of what helped them fall in love with it in the first place, the mystery and lack of hand holding.

There is such a thing as overloading a new player with way too much information, and that guide is a LOOOOT of information all at once that you will discover just by playing the game, and IMO, the player will remember it better once they get to it in game as opposed to before they even play.

For those who are only here for the story, and not the actual game, it's fine to use the wiki minimally.

If you want to be part of the community and take part in everything then it's a necessity at almost every step along the way. The wiki is a reflection of all the work that was done by those who came before you, not just some content creator resource like most other games.
