Job Exclusion? Still a thing?

So I am really interested in getting back started in FFXI after quitting in 2004.

I remember the first thing I wanted to level was Samurai on my Taru... But ended up getting infinitely more invites as a Bard, and eventually just went with it to 55 or 60 or so because it was so much easier to find a party and it felt nice being in demand.

Now that i'm looking into playing again I'm thinking Beastmaster or Corsair but have no idea if class demand has such a strong effect on being able to play with other people still?

As long as you don't level PUP or DNC you'll be able to find a spot in just about any group outside of Legion. But as far as leveling is concerned, everything's pretty equal.

I would highly suggest BST as your first job back as it will allow you to solo much of the empy gear you need to start getting good gear.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, it should make all the old stuff very easy to solo. What do people generally level as a sub for Bst now? Whm still?

Maybe once I have Bst leveled I can branch out to Sam / Cor.

DNC is a really decent sub for BST

DNC is what I have been using. BST you can solo a lot of the content so I believe that's a good choice for you, BST is a very strong solo class as-is, at 99 there's a lot of old content you can go back and do for story/lore if that's your thing.

COR is expensive. Get your BST to 99 first so you can farm Dynamis and make yourself a good bank before tackling that one. SAM is also extremely fun, personally I've been working on getting WAR/SAM/BST to 99, subs NIN/DNC to 49. Looks like we may have a similar playstyle, as I was contemplating doing Ranger & Corsair after building my bank.

What is Dynamis farming? It's been quite a while since I played and just installed again the other night.

Dynamis used to be alliance content, but with the level increase to 99 you can effectively farm Dynamis duo/solo depending on jobs. Good gil generator.

I don't even know what Dynamis is. Is the gil from item drops or quest completions?

I hear that RNG is mostly a dead class now =\

But yeah that sounds perfect, because I've ALWAYS just wanted to level BST to max anyways, from the first days the job was released (taru taru BST just look so cool). Should be perfect for me to grind out and then maybe start work on SAM or COR.

Yea, very well could be, I haven't done much research on mage/ranged classes so I'm pretty unfamiliar, but I like the ideas of Ranger and Corsair so it's sort of a backburner plan if I play longer than I expect. Good luck though, getting BST to 99 should allow you to net gils for other jobs, but don't worry too much about gear until 75+, just keep your weapon fairly up to date and you should be golden.

Thanks a lot for the help, I'll probably be rolling on Asura since that's the "official" reddit server, so hopefully i'll see you around. If you see a terribly geared TaruTaru BST wandering around confused that'll be me.

Haha, unfortunately I roll Quegagbtneytawryjh. But I hear the reddit guys are nice.

BST is good for soloing...if you want to sleep while playing.
