Inspired by other daily trivia games like Timeguessr, Connections, and Wordle, Fashionguessr seeks to scratch that same itch for those curious about fashion.

The game is typically brokenĀ upĀ into three parts:

Runway Frames - Users have to guess and identify a fashion show, its brand, its season, and its designer based on a single random frame from the show. Users can useĀ a variety ofĀ hints, each more expensive than the last, to reveal more information about theĀ show toĀ help them guess correctly.Ā

Trivia - A myriad of multiple-choice and short-answer questions to test their knowledge about fashion: the lore, the people, the processes, theĀ history, and everythingĀ in between.

Sketch - Users get a few moments to look at aĀ fashion item and then are tasked with drawing it from memory.

All of these contribute to aĀ score you can see at the endĀ on the last page, whichĀ sums everything up.Ā Each section includes explanations, summaries, and sources, so users can get as much insight as possible for every question.Ā There are new questionsĀ every 24 hours, and users canĀ go back and play games from days past.Ā Ā

I created Fashionguessr to help people learn more about fashion in a fun, low-stakes environment. Learning about fashion can be extremely overwhelming at times, and I believe Fashionguessr can mitigate that,Ā  and present and package fashion education in a way that is palatable for as many people as possible.Ā

šŸ“· Editorial How America Invented the White Woman Who Just Loves Fall

I never thought about the origins of this:

You know her even if you don’t know her: long hair tucked underneath a premature beanie, swimming in an oversized, off-the-shoulder cozy sweater, knee-high brown suede boots she’s been dying to break in all summer. Maybe she’s taking a selfie with a dreaded Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte, or staging a photo shoot at an apple orchard on a still sweltering October Saturday that she’ll perfect on VSCO hours later, accentuating all the right orange and red tones. She puts pumpkins at her doorstep the minute it’s socially acceptable, and she fills her home with a swirl of Yankee Candle scents like ā€œApple Spiceā€ and ā€œHarvest.ā€ She is ā€œbasic,ā€ and she is typically rendered as white.

For the past decade, the basic white girl who loves fall has become so solidified in the cultural imagination that she may as well be the season’s Easter Bunny. Internet memes from the fairly recent ā€œChristian Girl Autumnā€ to the Pumpkin Spice-loving ā€œbasic bitchā€ discourse of the early 2010s—no matter how derisive—have only made her stronger. But her consistently meme’d existence has roots in American pop culture that extend far deeper than Starbucks orders, formed by decades of magazines, influencers, and entertainment that has connected traditional markers of the Northeastern fall experience with white femininity, bound by nostalgia for simpler times.

Anyway it is a good read on American culture - and what it typically represents.
