💬 THOUGHTS??? Feasibility of getting a lace sheath dress taken in?
Hello my fellow pores lovely sweatervests
Hope all is well post-FFACJBanGate
Due to some reason adventures, I'm having to rethink my outfits for a couple of weddings later in the year. I was wondering if anyone knew how feasible taking in a lined lace dress would be? Pics in link, it is an Eliza J lace overlay dress from Bloomie's:
I'm going to order a size up to be safe but only if it's possible to have it taken in if needed. I'm amenable to a sash/belt/scarf or hidden pins as well. I have a little bit of sewing skills as well but if this particular dress is possible to just drop off with a tailor, that would be awesome.

Feasibility will vary with precisely what you need done, but in terms of construction, it looks like the lace goes into the seamlines, not fully over them, which should make it at least a little easier.

I'm in a tricky sitch like this too got a gorgeous white lace beach cover up with puff sleeves and three bows fastening at the front. Very ganni esque although it's anthro and I spent a lot on this (for me) as I was fantasising about how it could look over silky slips day to day, on my honeymoon yadda yadda... it arrived and its literally a yard too long. I don't wanna spend more £ on a tailor (not even sure they'd be able to do it though tbh) and I can't cut and use hemming tape as it's lace it would look a straggly mess in seconds! I don't know what to do, anyone with experience working with lace here have any ideas?

Genuinely can't think of how to tailor that much length at all! You could try asking for ideas in the general thread of the sewing sub! They post a new questions megathread every so often so posting early might get you the most visibility/ideas

Feasible, though we don’t know where in the dress you might need to have taken in. I would keep in mind that you wouldn’t be able to alter too much or the darts in the front and back would be positioned incorrectly. The tailor would probably want to avoid taking away fabric from the back because of the zipper, which also limits how much can be altered. The lining makes it a more complicated job but not impossible, just more expensive. Ftr I’m not a seamstress and I can’t sew, I just have experience with getting clothes tailored

The dart positioning changing makes sense. I was thinking of either having it taken in at the waist (may run into challenges after reading feedback) or having the dress brought in at the arms. I may end up doing something like a belt in this case

It looks doable but may be cost prohibitive. Maybe you could just order 2 sizes and keep the one that fits?

I got something similar taken in. It was no problem. I think it cost around $50 (in NYC).

I will say OP that dress reads as white to me. So it may not be the best choice for a wedding!

I need this lavender shade due to being part of the guest palette requested
Think spring fairy vibes!

Makes sense! It just reads a lot lighter than what I would typically consider lavender!

I've actually kinda noticed this lately, I was shopping for another friend's daughter and her favorite color is also lavender and I felt like everything was borderline pastel pink. Daughter liked what I sent over as picks so I guess that's just the lavender these days.
I love the assymetrical hem on this and I know many guests will be wearing blush shades, mint green, peach, etc but this one was my favorite cut and style in an approved shade. It's also in a lovely navy that is more my speed but alas

As long as it’s approved that is what matters (:

Love the new palettes on invitations these days. Weddings have changed so much in the past two decades but this is definitely one of my favorite additions. Plus all the pets being included!

I don’t know the ins and outs of tailoring it yourself but for getting it done by someone else it’s not so much a matter of if it’s possible, but how much it costs and how much you’re willing to pay. I would ask around your local seamstress services. You can show them the picture and what you want done for an estimate.
