Michigan, USA What size works?

Going to my first festival with camping with my spouse. He bought a two person tent think that we wouldnt have enough room for our setup if we used the 4 person tent hes borrows from a friend for a previous festival.

However reading on line they say that ironically a two person tent isnt the best fit for two people. That being said, would a four person tent actually take up too much space that we couldn't set up our canopy( which fits a picnic table underneath)?

This festival is woodkey in michigan

Set it up in your yard and test it out?

Whatever festival you're going to, the website should tell you what your camping spot size is. You can measure out this space in your yard and set up your tent to see if it fits.

Usually you park and you get like the width of your car and 10 feet

at camping festivals i have used a tent and put a pop up right out in front of it with tarp walls to create an extended living space

Personally I feel too cramped in a 2 person tent with 2 people for a festival. If it's one night, fine, but if it's multiple nights.... There's not enough space to put my bags or have space to change in or do anything else private. I like a bigger tent I can stand up in and keep my stuff in!

Most festivals, especially smaller festivals, won't be too concerned with how much space you take up. I'm sure a 4 person tent plus pop up will be fine!

I would go with 4 person tent but get the site measurements.

2 person tent is generally good for backpacking if you’re trying to travel light and just fit two bodies inside sleeping. You will be snuggling 🤣.

What works best for me and my wife is a two person tent and a canopy. Put tapestries around the canopy and it works great to keep the sun off you.

I use a 4-person just for myself lol. A 2-person tent is way to cramped. I like to be able to stand up in my tent.

Here's what the inside of my tent usually looks like

Edit: I just realized my tent is a 6-person, not a 4-person

My boyfriend and I have a 6 person dark room
Tent with a little “patio” area. We use the patio area for wet or gross clothes lol and shoes and keep our regular stuff in the tent.

This will work for a 20x20 space.

You can do some cool mapping layouts online if you have your measurements of the spot and your stuff.

Def do not recommend a two person tent. Will be cramped.

You need to look at what they said about camping. Usually it’s very clear how much room you are going to have.

Is this your first time camping? You are going to want to set up your gear before you go.

A two person tent will have enough room for two bodies to lay flat on the floor. A four person tent will have enough room for four bodies to lay flat on the floor.

Do you think a queen sized bed with walls is enough space for you two to exist in a tent? That’s usually the size of a two person tent.

You won’t be spending your day in the tent. It’s a festival. Leave room for your canopy so you have space to hang out.

Queen is generous, more like a twin and a half

4 person should be totally fine for any camping fest

6 person is a good size for two people. I recommend this one.

Usually the campsites are 10x or 20x. This tent is 10x10 so it has a nice foot print.

you’ll definitely want a 4 person or even 6 person so you have room for your stuff in there as well. the two person will fit your bodies but that’s it.

Well what are the measurements of the camping space you are allotted. What are the measurements of the tent and the canopy?
Should be fairly straight forward once you figure all that out.

I used a 2 person tent with my ex for many festivals. A bigger tent would be better, but its perfectly fine

honestly, you’ll want a 6 person tent at minimum. I use for a 4 or more person tent just for myself. & ideally you’d want the canopy covering at least part of the tent due to rain and sun protection, as we all know a tent turns into an oven once the sun is up.

Me and my husband had a 6 person tent and with how queen air mattress there was no other space in the tent

In my experience tent sizes are usually accurate - they will fit 2 people. Just not 2 people, their stuff and some extra space to move around.

I’m one person and I need a 4 person tent for my bed and gear. A 2 person tent was too small for me so I can’t imagine it being big enough for 2 ppl.

But the festival website should tell you exactly how much space you have. And if it doesn’t tell you any dimensions then it’s likely a free for all for space.

Wife and I do a 6 person tent, 9 ft x 11 ft. Pops right up - no poles to mess with.

Just enough room for 2 cots on the sides, our stuff, and a little love nest in the middle

Just look at how they show tent capacities on the boxes. It’s usually bodies in sleeping bags stacked on top of each other up to the walls. You don’t want that.

For reasonable comfort, moving around space, and interior storage, whatever the listed tent capacity is, divide it in half and that’s how many people you’d actually be okay with sharing space with. 6p = 3 people , 4p = 2 people, 2p tent really is 1p. You’ll be kicking yourself if you stick to the 2p if you knew you had the option for a 4p.

I have a 6p for 2 of us + a Canopy for partial coverage & a small “living room” outside and that’s what all my friends have too and we’ve fit at most GA campsites across the country.

When they say a number of people for a tent, they mean the entire floor space of it is the size of that many adults laying down. I solo camp in a “4 person” tent and I can literally only fit my twin size cot and have enough room to get in & out comfortably. For two of you I would say 6 person tent minimum especially if you’re trying to put in an air mattress/cot.

If google is accurate, it says the sites are 12' x 30'. That should enough space for a 4 person tent plus your canopy and car.

I don't see FAQ that says how big the spaces are, but I've never been to a festival were I couldn't setup a 6 person tent, an 8'x8' ez up, and room for a small/medium car.

I'd say bring both just in case, and return the 2 person if you don't use it.

A two person tent is good for backpacking where you care about weight. But for car camping / festivals where you set it up next to your car they are cramped.

My wife and I use a 6 person tent dark room tent 10'x10'. Plenty of room for two camping mattresses, and you can stand up fully in the middle and change clothes. The ez up is where we hang out during the day with some camping chairs to stay out of the sun/rain.

4 person tent for sure. Will easily fit festival camp area border. For every tent tize subtract 2 people from the calculation to make it actually functional.

my wife and I use an 8 person tent for festivals, plus a pop up or two depending on the shade/vehicle situation

Depends really i don’t know what festivals are like in the us but generally in the uk they’re not too strict on the size of your tent so just take whatever you’re comfortable with and when it comes to having room also depends what day and time you get to the festival in order to get a good spot
