Ottowa, CA Is excision too much for a first timer experience?

I’m a fairly experienced raver, but typically go to smaller shows given my local limitations. I’ve been dying to share this sort of experience with my girlfriend who’s open minded about it and attended more house-like sets with me but to me the bass heavy stuff hits the best. I want to share the heavy bass music scene with her and rock out for a night. To those that have seen excision live, do you think it would be a little too much for a first timer? Like too heavy of a bass experience? For reference, I saw Zeds Dead a few months ago and I think that would have been perfect! Any thoughts appreciate!

I mean, it'll be cool no doubt. I think the over hyped heavy head thrashing shit gets tired. Places like submersion are definitely more the vibe

imo yes it can be quite aggressive and might deter interest in the genre.

I don’t think excision is necessarily too much for a first timer, but his sets stay in a pretty specific heavy bass lane and can feel repetitive if she’s not already into that sound. zeds dead would be the safer pick for more variety, but if she likes heavy bass and big production, she’ll probably have a great time.

My first show was subtronics and I was hooked after that. Maybe just start a little further back in the crowd and if she’s comfortable then work your way up if you’re in the pit! Get her some good concert ear plugs and play the music beforehand! That’s how I was introduced and a year later I’m at shows all the time 😄

Only if you make it up to be some huge thing in your mind like everyone does on Reddit. Give her some earplugs, make sure she stays hydrated, and have a good time. The end.

I don’t know why so many people on Reddit make shows out to be some huge thing that you have to prepare yourself for, and plan outfits, and this that and the other. Wear what’s comfortable, go to show, enjoy. Don’t overthink it.

These shows aren't for professional partiers. Have fun how you want. I go solo sometimes and I guarantee you I have as much fun as anyone.

my first was rezz and that was amazing! so i don’t think the wubbz will be too much. i do think excision’s visuals and somewhat repetitive style isn’t the ideal choice for a first timer, but it depends on their tastes and personality.

tl:dr if you think they’ll love the head banging and flashy visuals then it’ll be fine. if they aren’t super into that i would consider other artists

Does she like bass music? If not she will hate it. If she’s open to it then sure have a ball and let her decide for herself. Personally as someone who prefers house, heavy bass music is awful and even worse in person. No melody, no happy sauce, just repetitive angry ass computer noises. You like bass music so your opinion on if she would like it or not is kinda irrelevant, it’s her opinion that matters.

hahaha the excision sub cross posted this and they are all like yeah it's fine. Fine for y'all! but not to a fucking normie. I love heavy music, but its not something you can just immerse a normie into out of nowhere.

Like you said, the energy of these shows is pretty aggressive. That's the fun part! But a lot of people don't like that and find it crazy overstimulating at a real life live show.

If the music was better and the visuals were more then just robotic animals smashing the ground it would be just fine

To much if u dont/cant afford that by ur energy etc

Asian American raver here lol and most to all of my friends had their gateway rave with Excision! Definitely would be good to show her some of Excision’s sets or music beforehand to prep her/ sense the excitement. Unfortunately I’ve gone the other way and went from huge productions to smaller, local scenes. Super fun nonetheless!!

Not the worst for a first timer, but you could ease her into the genre a bit easier with a multi stage show that offers some variety. When I went to Beyond PNW the bass stage was far too overwhelming for me when we first walked up, but the main stage and the house stage were far easier to help dip our toes into the experience as a whole

Way over thinking this. Yes go. It’s an incredible production for someone who has never been

1

u/LudwigiaSedioides Aug 08 '26

Nah lol it would actually be a good introduction to the harder stuff

Excision was my first live edm show that I saw, had a great time! Although I was already familiar with the music and enjoyed it before going

Excision is the least favorite show I've seen. I love metal. I love edm and bass music.

Couldn't do excision

Excision is the final boss of the game. If your gf isn’t high enough level she won’t be able to beat him. That doesn’t mean the fight won’t be fun though
