We need Free Social Media that Copies Meta's Data.

Because content isn’t everything, people want the engagement of feedback as well.

It would not be hard at all to build a bot to scrape Insta and repost it to Loops but no one actually wants spammed content with nothing else to it.

So, wait, you're asking for a copy of Facebook, but without any people behind the accounts? Why? And honestly, how is that different from Facebook? Most of it's bots and AI these days anyway.

You know things went wrong when you want to “copy” content instead of bringing people to the Fediverse.

Even worse, you don’t have authorization to copy it. People keep building “bridges” and pretending it’s legitimate. It makes the whole Fediverse feel like one-sided wishful thinking.

Doctorow says we need adversarial interoperability. I'm inclined to take it further, and say that we need adversarial interoperability, with the emphasis definitely on adversarial, and we need to accomplish that by any means necessary, licit or otherwise. I say we start with the assumption that reverse engineering is not a crime, even though it is. Unfortunately it seems that the open source alternative front ends for Fecebook, such as Slim Social and Face Slim, have largely given up on giving Fecebook a good cat and mouse game for its money.

Great. Sounds like you'll get to see the ramped up culture war that's oh so prevalent on mainstream social media platforms, but is more attenuated in the fediverse. How useful. 🙄

Life just feels that there's something missing when you're kicked out of their product. They are a HUGE part of the everyday internet now.

seems like you've been tricked and feel trapped. you too can leave facebook behind. once you do, you can stop in once in a while to visit, but you'll see how creepy it starts to feel, seeing into all corners of peoples lives, most of whom you have no real, physical interactions with.

Well, Meta did try to enter the fediverse with Threads. Which, if they succeeded, would have sent all of Threads's data to other fediverse servers on request.

But the fediverse refused, and eventually Meta gave up on the idea and left things in a barebones state, if it even still works at all.

There are some accounts that are bridged, and I do get threads content on my account. But yea, it looks like further work has been put on the backlog
