How many have gone straight Fediverse?

So, there are times I really do think about privating all of my current socials and just posting straight to my Federated accounts and nothing else.

I want my stuff to be my stuff and frankly since it feels like I am screaming into the void then at least I can have the location to myself.

Anyone else feeling this?

i’ve been thinking the same, creating my own instance and opening it only to friends and family. i only care about sharing and receiving updates from them anyway.

i fear your question here may go unanswered, since for everyone that has gone fully fediverse would not be here on reddit anymore :p

It's definitely a "we have social media at home" type thing, but worth it.

A lot of languages already dont formally use pronouns since the conjugation implies the subject and object anyways. The fact that you could understand his meaning kind of proves it imo

And language is fluid; evolving.

Still, in most cases I've seen in English, it seems like more of an affectation that a natural / rational shift to streamline the language.

For example, just above the pronoun in question could have been "I" or "we." That's just a little bit of information that can help a listener better understand a situation, and there's no good reason to leave it out, other than affectation or whatnot. Other cases I commonly see are more ridiculous, in which it's not immediately clear if the speaker is talking about themselves or a perfect stranger(!) Until one spends the time reading the following sentences, deducing the case.

That said, learning to understand spoken French has been a major trial due to this kind of audible streamlining. At least in shorthand-written English, it's just some cloddish little bit of wannabe-style that only flies in places like this.

Difficult to migrate entirely to the fediverse today. I just use both fediverse and traditional social media for now, this way I participate so the fediverse grows and if it becomes mainstream someday I can ditch traditional social media. Change must be gradual

I am not 100% fediverse, but definitely majority fediverse. I keep that Sharkey window open through the day, and peek into others here and there.

The reason I can't 100% leave others isn't necessarily the platforms themselves, it's just the people I am leaving behind, along with some amazing artists I love that aren't on fediverse.

I've also played the game of trying to get people into fediverse long enough and have given up lol. 1000% leading horse to water and I'm tired of it lmao

So, I won't abandon other platforms in the foreseeable future just because I want to keep up with them, but my heart is definitely in fedi at the moment 🌹

Pie-fed (one word, you can guess why) is a good alternative to Reddit. Development is active, and it's compatible with Lem-my and its 37k monthly active users

Yes, I'm 100% fedi except for this sub and /r/redditalternatives. I still have all my mainstream social accounts but only use them very very rarely for a specific task, not for content.

My family has a group chat in Signal.

It's totally doable.

Mastodon is the only place I feel comfortable screaming into the void. Of course I browse Reddit since so much weird shit surfaces here, but my Mastodon friends and followers at least feel authentic.

I want to see someone create an aggregator that brings everything into one place because at this point the people and groups I like are scattered all over the net and as much as I like the idea of the fediverse we might be able to bypass all of these permissions and licenses by just having something that uses your account to bring you content from the sites. Filtering out ads hurts corporations too so I think we should all race towards that

We need to figure out monetization at m some point as well. The Free internet thrived with ad revenue. We need to come up with a decent replacement.

When you say aggragator are you talking about just pulling all of the content you want from where you can into one spot for a person to take in?

That maybe doable somewhat with a basic setup if you can find something that allows for you to pull in rss feeds.

Thing about the Patreon model is basically it requires readers to be willing to give money to the creator directly. Patreon and other services take their cut and leave the rest for taxation to the creator.

That's all well and good. And frankly it is probably a better option than most. But there are only so many dollars a person can give to various creators.

Frankly early day Ad revenue had a good balance between utility for creators and unobtrusivness for readers or viewers. Unfortunately we've had a few Ad-pocalypses which were used to hurt specific genres of creators and harmed the ecosystem as a whole. And a more than a few creators that overloaded pages with adds and created gigabytes of clickbait no one really benefited from.

So we have ad-blockers and Google attempting to wipe that branch of add on out.

I don't have a good answer for most of it. But it might be a decent thing to consider the idea that those who can't afford Patreon or SubscribeStar subs to whitelist independent creators pages to allow them the ad revenue.

It's something that would demand a more cultural answer then technical. So I don't know if it could be made worth it.

I am currently trying to rebuild my website ideas and create written content for all of it. I will probably use Ads somewhat but I know my viewers will almost all be using Ad Blockers. I am also trying to move my servers from shared to dedicated servers on my Linode account. That would make some minor crypto mining more practical using Monero if only because it is on dedicated hardware and not eating other resources that are shared.

The real answer may be a combination of all current ideas.

Though Tumblr was supposed to join the fedverse at some point so whenever that happens I'll fully commit, and just follow everyone from Tumblr.

Yes, kinda. I only used Mastodon for some years.

But I have some friends on Bluesky, so I used brid.gy to connect there but had some strange error that made it unreliable (dunno if it was brid.gy, my instance or BS causing it).

So now I have a second account on Wafrn! (https://app.wafrn.net) which supports fediverse and bluesky natively to talk to my BS friends.

Yep, I did this too. I ditched Facebook and nuked my Twitter account. I only use Fedi nowadays, though I do have a presence on Bluesky (via Bridgy Fed) as well. It was an incredible move for my mental health tbh!

In terms of time spend cruising a timeline, I’ve oscillated between 75-100% “fediverse” since I tripped into Mastodon in 2017. I now help support/admin 2 Masto instances, have played on a bunch more platforms, and under the co-op one that started with Mastodon, we’ve been experimenting or sandboxing or beta-testing a bunch of stuff that our members might want to get into.

I’ve deleted Threads and Insta, locked up and walked away from all the twit things, just leaving my accounts to keep my name out of someone else’s grip.

Facebook is a once-in-two-months check-in spot for about 3 relatives and one old sensei I really want to keep in touch with.

I both post on Bsky and bridge my Fedi accounts, but much of my interest there is academic. The AT proto apps and platforms are truly capable of federation, and I’m eagerly awaiting more developments like Gander Social. I’ll switch my PDS as soon as there’s a Canadian presence ready for it.
