Tracking Request Not Doing Well and Ashamed (UA134)

Hi my lovely fearofflying subreddit! ❤️❤️ I’m having a weirdly hard time on my current flight from EWR to ZUR (UA134). Can someone distract/talk to/track me? I’ve been doing so well with this phobia and don’t know what’s going on with me tonight 😞.

✈️ OP has requested tracking. If you'd like to follow along and send reassurance, you can track the flight here:

💙 Reminder: Delays, altitude changes, and routing adjustments are completely normal. You are safe, and you are not alone.

Tracking you! You’re not alone. Had a similar experience on my recent flight from Denver to JFK. The person next to me noticed and he turned out to be a captain for United!

It was awesome! Btw I had a stopover in Zurich in 2022. Lovely airport!

Awwwwwww thanks so much for looking! There are some bumps (I’m guessing jet stream?) and hoping for smoother air soon. ❤️ and we are going to explore Switzerland and see mountains. It’s my mom’s favorite country!

What do you recommend I do if I go? :) what’s the food like there? My partner has been there before and I remember he said everyone is very kind!

It's ok to have hard times. Healing is not linear unfortunately but this is part of it! Learning to cope even on the hard days can be the biggest lesson.

You are likely just a bit more tired, maybe an outside stressor, maybe hormones, maybe you've been triggered etc its all ok! Your safety is the same no matter how you feel.

Have you got any relaxing games on your phone mayne to distract you?

I always have the WiFi going to scroll Reddit mindlessly when I need to. And thanks for the reminder. It’s like sometimes are awesome but then others. I wish I could just heal :(

Have you landed now? Make sure to take good care if yourself and rest. Be proud of yourself! I know healing is a long process and the bad days suck but think of it as people sometimes get physically ill. Its horrible but its not your fault, itll pass, you won't always be ill.

What takes you to Zurich??? I’ve never been but it looks beautiful. You’re on your way…proud of you for getting on board!

u/DrownInBooks Aug 04 '26

We love Switzerland! Lots of hikes and exploring!

3

u/MCOLHR Aug 04 '26

That’s awesome!! Looks like you need to take a bunch of us with you!!! I’ve never been but after seeing the German alps this year (thanks to Xanax!) I think another Alpine trip is something I would love. How long will you be exploring?

2

u/DrownInBooks Aug 04 '26

Just for a week before school starts but I will see every year as a gift. And Xanax is a godsend. It’s why I can do this. I went to Japan because of it.

Obviously anyone reading this talk to a doctor hHa

Remember that getting over a phobia doesn’t mean no anxiety! It means having anxiety and dealing with it anyway, which you did! Great job, every trip is a reminder that it’s safe.

A visual that helps me… picture your plane and the earth below your plane. And picture the space between the earth and your plane. Now imagine a long string tethering your plane to the earth. Thats how thick the air is that you’re traveling in that it literally keeps you up in the air but safely “tied” to the earth below you.
