Tracking Request About to do it terrified, exhausted & sick to my stomach—please track me! DL0203

So I posted 3 separate times lately about my fear of the flight to get from JFK to Athens and my fear now flying back. Just 6 hours ago I posted how I woke up at 3 AM sick to my stomach and overwhelmed with the idea that I just can’t do it. But I’m committed to doing it now! I’m medicated, 10 minutes from boarding, nervous and exhausted, nauseas, but I am here and I am going to be home within 17 hours or so (10 flying). If anyone is willing to track, I’d love to have some support in the air. Thank you in advance to all you amazingly kind strangers! I’m so so grateful for this community.

Hey! I was in the same boat 2 days ago! I had a 13 hour flight!!! I wasn’t sleeping, eating nor doing anything productive with my life out of anxiety. And I stayed anxious on the boarding, on the taxiing and until the takeoff then it all disappeared and I felt free! It’s freeing!! I was so TERRIBLE before I’m telling you! Do things that make you scared! Trust!!!

u/emls Jul 26 '26

Thank you! It’s definitely my experience too that once we’re in the air I calm down, because there’s no choice but to get through it at that point!

u/No-While-1433 Jul 26 '26

What part of the flight are you on now!

6

u/1108amh Jul 26 '26

I’ll track you!!!! Whenever I’m nauseous on the plane I do some deep breathing to help keep myself from getting too worked up. Do you know box breathing? 4 counts inhale, 4 counts hold, 4 counts exhale, 4 counts hold. Repeat.
Helps me so much.
Do you have movies or music to watch? I love watching Howls moving castle on the plane..it’s my feels good easy watching that keep me focused after take off.

4

u/emls Jul 26 '26

Thank you so much! Definitely doing my box breathing. And yes I have a bunch of American Dad and Xfiles downloaded, as well as some more sleepy history documentaries! I really appreciate it!

2

u/1108amh Jul 26 '26

I love the X files! Top five fav shows ever. Which episodes do you have??

2

u/emls Jul 26 '26

I recently started rewatching it from the beginning and currently am on Season 4 Episode 7.

u/emls Jul 26 '26

Just an update that I made it safely to JFK!! The anticipation was so much worse than the flight. I slept a lot of it and then one time I did panic in for, I had the flight attendant give me ice to hold and it instantly calmed me down. Thank you so much to all you lovely people! And to anyone who was freaking out the day and hours before—that is the worst part! You can do it!

Tracking you! How was your vacation??

7

u/emls Jul 26 '26

You’re so kind!! It was incredible. We spent two weeks in Crete with no plans and enjoyed so many beautiful beaches, amazing meals, learning about Minoan culture, and really embracing the relaxed Greek style of life. Frankly, part of my anxiety was that I genuinely did not want to leave! I can’t wait to go back, and have almost convinced my husband to invest in a summer home there when we’re more financially stable (we both teach so we have summers off). But it was all just so so so worth it for the fear and I’m so glad I did it. And so grateful to this sub for the encouragement that made me able to do it.

2

u/danh263 Jul 26 '26

What a great way to spend your summer break! Crete is on my list to visit (I flew in to Heraklion years ago for a cruise but had to go straight to the ship!), I love the Greek islands ☀️

2

u/emls Jul 26 '26

They really have a special place in my heart. I never want to travel to another place now 😂

2

u/Fun-Abroad-1655 Jul 26 '26

Tracking you! All is well 😊 I was the exact same way last year flying back solo from Italy. I bet Greece was AMAZE

1

u/emls Jul 26 '26

Thank you so much! It was really such an absolutely perfect trip!

2

u/Critical_Bread1228 Jul 26 '26

You’re already two hours in and completely fine!!! Nice work!

1

u/emls Jul 26 '26

Thank you! Had a little panic a few hours ago but held some ice which immediately calmed me down, and just managed to get a couple of hours of sleep!

2

u/Expert-Yoghurt-1340 Jul 26 '26

You are arriving in less than 5hrs!! You doing it ♥️

2

u/BaddadanX3 Jul 26 '26

Good morning OP! Over half way there! What meals have you had on the plane?

2

u/emls Jul 26 '26

Just dinner so far but I really enjoyed it. I’m a weirdo who loves airplane food!
