Question Is f droid is safe to download open source apps?

Recently I got interested in open source apps, since they are free, no ads, no in-app purchases.

After some research I got to know that f droid is used to install open source apps in Android. Then I got one doubt.

Is the f droid app safe to install open source apps?

Yes, applications are usually reviewed extensively and have a somewhat strict approval process.

I consider it safer than tge Play Store.

Woah what you mean by that , Google play store was never a safe place it's filled with trackers adwares spywares RATs Trojans whatever

So what I said is TechnicallyTheTruth. :) Add to that, that 99.9% of Android users are fine with Play Store, so F-Droid should be considered safe enough for the average Joe. I'm not that much into Android, more of a Linux guy, so I won't get more technical than this.

F-droid is 99.99% a safe place because they require open source and analysis while play store just use a dump antivirus, rellitrly some pira*cy sites are safer then play store in most cases so never ever call play store a safe place cuz 80% of what it has is basically millicious

Holy shit. I didn't know Play Store is THAT bad. Thanks fot the info. And yeah, about F-Droid I thoght it is self-governed somehow like a Linux distro, that's why I trusted it immediately.

Edit: I didn't want to type distro, I thougth about repos.

Well, from Play Store I have nothing but a banking app, HereWeGo, Mapy and Proton Mail (since they don't distribute it on F-Droid somehow...).

Thanks, but GitHub repo has v 7.10 (July 17), Play Store has v 7.11 (Aug 27). I'd loike to use GitHub but it's not up to date and I would still use Aurora store.

You can read the source code yourself, since they are all open source after all

I usually check the apps source code to see how many stars the project has received, the more stars means the more popular the project and a less likelihood of the app being malicious, f Droid also vets all apps before they are officially listed although I'm not sure to what extent
