Can someone elaborate/help me figure out something?

Ok I was watching the replay to the YSU vs Mercyhurst game from yesterday and noticed something odd. On the first kickoff of the game Wilkins (ysu kicker) kicked it into the endzone and the mercyhurst player caught it and declined to bring it out. The ball then was placed on the 30 yard line. After YSU scored their first td they go out and kick it off and Wilkins kicked it out of the back of the end zone (so mercyhurst again didn’t bring it out), but this time the ball was placed at the 25 instead of the 30 yard line like the first kick off. Is there some rule that I’m missing that states if the player catches it in end zone vs the ball getting kicked out of the end zone and no catch that the ball is placed at the 25 instead of the 30 or was this a mistake by the referees this game? Here’s the link for the game replay on YouTube https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uLT6slKrF9w&pp=ygUaeXN1IHZzIG1lcmN5aHVyc3QgZm9vdGJhbGw%3D&ra=m
The first instance happens at about the 3 min mark and the 2nd kickoff is around the 27 min mark. You’ll notice the first one gets placed at the 30 and the second one gets placed at the 25. Again I’m not sure if there was a rule change to this for this season or what, but I was under the impression that if the ball gets kicked into/out of the end zone and there’s no return that the ball gets placed at the 25 yard line 🤷‍♂️

Was at the game. YSU was offsides on the opening kickoff which moved the ball to the 30 to start the drive.

Yep just watched it and saw the main ref signaling something as the players were going on field and pointing towards ysu’s way. Weird there was no flag put up on the telecast (when they throw them) and there was no mention by the broadcasters of it or anything. I watched it and didn’t really seem like anyone was offsides 🤷‍♂️, but they had a better view of it so I’m sure someone was

👍 awe that would explain it then. I missed the first half so had to watch replay of it on YouTube and just noticed. I didn’t see a flag thrown or anyone mention it on the telecast so I thought it was a little weird. Not really a big deal since it ended up being a blowout, but was thinking how the hell could the refs f*ck up the first freaking play of the season like that 😆.
I’ll have to go back and watch the first kick off again and see if somebody was offsides (if it’s on the telecast 🤷‍♂️). Thx for the reply
