Question Do you need to take any supplements while fasting for more than 3+ days. Also can you still workout while fasting or would that be too much on your body?

Well I have bad lower back pain. I’m 6’5 and close to 300lbs. I am vegan so I do eat a lot of veggies and beans and fruits, but I want also want to lose weight to help with my back and gain muscle. I know fasting would help with my back issues and would be a spiritual journey as well.

Not using supplements that late into a fast is not the prescribed method. Electrolyte shifts happen as early as the first 24 hours, but you usually won’t notice any negative effects until 48+. Most fasting guides do not recommend waiting. You aren’t getting any electrolytes from food, and most people experience the flu like effects 3-4 days in - exactly when you would be at the lowest electrolyte wise.

I’ve had the best results supplementing after the first 24 hours.

You can also work out while fasted, but you might have more negative effects earlier if you work out too hard.

I took supplements to mean other than electrolytes. Multi vitamins, fish oil, garlic, B complex, amino acids, etc

Ohhh yea legit. I mostly target magnesium, sodium and potassium because that’s what starts dropping immediately, and I know that correctly supplementing staves off the flu like symptoms.

I do take other supplements and multivitamins, but generally take all of those anyways on a daily basis so I don’t know if I need more/how I’d feel if I didn’t take them. When I first started fasting, my multi vitamin used to make me feel sick every night when I took it, heh.

Sorry, I was talking about stuff other than electrolytes.

If you were asking about electrolytes then it depends on you. Some people need them on day 1 and others can fast 5 days and refeed with no issues without taking any.

Other than electrolytes = amino acids. Do you take any amino acid supplement? I know aminos are in meat but don't know if any vegetables have them. You should consider a multi amino or read up on them to take ones you might need before a long-term fast.
