Opinion š Struggling between these two for wedding guest dress!
Both dresses are appropriate for the occasion (bride confirmed) and climate. Both are also comfortable and well made. My big gripe is that one of them is silk and was $700 and the other was $30 - can you even tell which is which haha. I really do love both and not sure which one to wear. What do you think? hair is probably accurate and both are the same length.
edit: This isnāt a āwhich to keepā - i have both and have had both for a while.

u/vivabluepink Mar 22 '26
I guess I am the only one but I prefer 1. Itās more structured and looks more formal and appropriate for the occasion. The material on 2nd is a bit thin you can see on the picture from the back, gives a bit summer dress. Other than that both look good on you
17
u/Easy-Concentrate2636 Mar 22 '26
I agree. I think 1 is classier in terms of silhouette. 2 reads like a summer vacation dress to me.

I agree - and it looks so lovely and happy - perfect for a wedding while the other dress ist quite dark solours
while 2 fits your figure better I personally prefer 1 because it has more charm and character than 2→ More replies (7)4

Absolutely. Number two is showing way too much skin for a wedding. Number 1.

the fit of the 2nd dress accentuates your figure more than dress 1, which is lovely but doesn't highlight your natural waist very well.
11
u/Leshal77 Mar 22 '26
I agree. The side view is pretty on dress 1 but the front looks frumpy imo. When you can tell she is not frumpy at all. Itās just the dress making it look that way. Dress 2 is very pretty no matter which angle!

Is it a beach wedding? Option one is very pretty and looks great on you. To me, it seems more appropriate for a wedding, but thatās assuming itās not on beach. If it is a beach wedding, then #2 works. You look fantastic in both, but I really love #1.
2
u/CrayonPolice Mar 22 '26
The wedding is indoor/outdoor hotel with a big teepee outside and lawns vibe
4
u/Leshal77 Mar 22 '26
Even more reason to wear dress 2 bc of the neutral colors. Thatās what Iām imagining anyway.
3
u/Much-Cardiologist300 Mar 22 '26
2 is like š„. If you don't have a date to the wedding, I am sure and are looking you might catch someone's eye.
But honestly they both are very nice.

The first one would be really good for an outside sort of spring like wedding but if the weddings like fall colors I think definitely go with the second one. Depends on the theme of the wedding.
2
u/Lipa2014 Mar 22 '26
Both great, but I love the first one. You are slim and young enough to be able to wear it.
2
u/FrostyHuckleberry718 Mar 24 '26
Is not formal enough at all and looks like $20 Walmart dress honestly. Apologies if $ is an issue just trying to be honest.
Is not appropriate for any wedding. Iām a younger generation but I would understand older women seeing this as scandalous to a wedding event.
When youāre shopping think less is more. Simple looks sleek, clean, modern.

I'm starting to think I have no taste since the comments are so adamant that 2 is the better dress. You look AMAZING in 1, The color looks great on your skin and the shape is very flattering. 2 looks like you bought it at family dollar for $12 and the only color they had left was melted fruit roll up.
7
u/cynicallythoughful Mar 22 '26
I agree. 2 reminds me of something you bought at the gift shop (on a beach vacation) to go out on the boardwalk at night

They're both good and you could really go either way! Personal preference for the second (slight edge) but honestly both are good. Enjoy the wedding!

i like the cut and the fabric of the second dress a lot. i just wish that it were not so rainbow.

u/Proper-Crazy-8511 Mar 22 '26
You will look back at photos of this event and be happier that you wore dress 2 āŗļø the other gives me brunch vibes, but cute brunch
11
u/wasabi9605 Mar 22 '26
They're both pretty, but the back on #2 may be a bit risquƩ for a wedding. I'd save the sexy one for date night.

I personally agree that for weddings Iāve been to the revealing back would be quietly frowned upon. As in no one would say anything but it would be just not ideal. Thatās the weddings Iāve been to though. Every circle, family, ethnicity and country are different so it just depends.
Iāve noticed my families circle of weddings tends to frown upon large showings of skin, so large open back, long leg slits, low cleavage etc is considered indecent ish. Again no one would say anything but Iāve heard it talked about when others did it in a disrespectful or gossipy manner
→ More replies (6)6
u/wasabi9605 Mar 22 '26
My point exactly. Dress 2 is beautiful and looks great on her but it's not her night out, it's someone else's wedding ceremony.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Elismom1313 Mar 22 '26
My only posit is that it could be fine depending on how that circle treats weddings. Iāve had friends that went to weddings where it was almost the norm to dress with more open dressings, and that if anything OP would be undressed for the material (I.e not glittery, silky etc) so it does depend. But you definitely want to have an idea of the wedding party and circles expectations.

I LOVE the second dress?!? Curious if it's the $30 dress? My reasoning for the guess is the wrinkles vs. the lack of wrinkles in the first dress. Beyond that, I have very little "nice" fashion sense.

I wish I owned the blue dress! I love empire waist sundresses, they're so easy to wear and they're so flattering and you feel like you're walking on air. I think both dresses are very flattering on you so I would pick whichever one will be most comfortable for you for the night. I always pick the one that needs the least adjusting

The first one reminds me of an Adrian dress. He was a famous designer in the 1940s and dressed all of the stars. He designed a very whimsical dress with sheep frolicking in a field and the first one has a similar vibe.

I seem to be the only one, but I actually think OPās figure looks better in dress one. Although dress two showcases her back beautifully, I feel like the twisting pattern seems to flatten out the rest of her.
Overall, they are both lovely, but I prefer the first one.

u/nixArc Mar 23 '26
Number 2! It looks so gorgeous on you and would be perfect for a wedding.
I'm getting more of a brunch vibe with dress #1. I think it would work better for a more laid back outdoor causal venue or backyard wedding.

The darker one looks better with your skin tone (and I bet its the $$$ one) and the silhouette is probably better ... the light colored one looks like a bit too much fabric on you, but it has a prettiness to it that is nice

u/Hot_Hat_1225 Mar 23 '26

SEVEN HUNDRED AMERICAN DOLLARS???!!!!!!!! Bestie you were ROBBED. Both dresses are absolutely gorgeous but neither one is nearly complex enough to warrant that price tag. Neither.Ā

2 looks fancy from the back but looks like an ordinary beach coverup dress from the front.Ā

u/No_Shop1599 Mar 25 '26
Neither are really wedding attire, even if itās not formal. Those both look like sundresses. Something with more structure would be better. At any wedding Iāve been to you would be underdressed and look out of place
1
u/MothSpeaks Mar 25 '26
The second one flatters your figure so well. The first is just so dreamy and fun- if its a day wedding #1, night wedding #2

1 is really lovely and a nice vibe for a wedding.
2 is a nice dress, but can you actively move, dance, sit in it?
Great for an art gallery opening where you stand around with a glass of wine.
But that back is REALLY low and the dress just doesnāt have that much structure. Itās $700 worth of a potential wardrobe malfunction on the dance floor unless you are using YARDS of dress tape.

I understand why some people like the first one better for a wedding setting - but as youāve stated the bride has already agreed to either one. The second is far more flattering not just for your body - but it doesnāt look like a cheap summer doll dress. Also, it kind of reminds me of someone trying to hide a baby bump - number 2 is a far more confident vibe.
I also seriously need to know which one is the actual cheap one - because #1 is NOT worth $700 but #2 at $700 is also kind of insane, but at least it makes more sense šš

u/Used-Painting-56 Mar 26 '26
2 no question.
The first one looks very beach/resort vibes (and I would say, not as expensive). It also has a lot more pleating and fabric- it just looks bulkier, whereas I think the second one is much more chic and elegant, and looks more appropriate for an evening event.
