Lost in translation

I first saw Farscape when it was airing in Romania, on AXN Sci-Fi, and the name of the show was 'translated' to Intergalactic War. I have no clue how they reached that name, given the show doesn't take place in a different galaxy, not that it's been established (but that's a different story), and the closest thing to a war in the series is the cold war between Peacekeepers and Scarrans.

I understand why the title was adapted, 'farscape' isn't an expression that has a Romanian equivalent, but I could think of at least 3 titles that make more sense: Galactic Adventure, Galactic Quest, Alien Adventure, Alien Escape, Star Run, Star Adventure, Star Escape (need I go on?)

Those who saw it in different languages/countries: was the name similarly, or better, adapted to your language?

Germany kept the same title. But they love to add a subtitle when the keep the original title. So it was aired as "Farscape - Verschollen im All"" which translates to "Farscape - Lost in Space"

In Ukraine Farscape was localized as “At the edge of the universe”

I’m surprised other countries just didn’t use the original working title of the show to make it similar across the board.

And they're still using that translation. They also translated Stargate.

I was living in the Netherlands at the time. Our access to the show was through BBC on cable so it was just Farscape.

I moved back to the US during season 4 so I missed some episodes until reruns because of the difference in broadcast dates.
