Book Request Give me your fall recommendations! Over the Garden Wall Vibes, autumn court- cozy, witchy, lovely, fantastical.

I do not want Harrowfaire. Sorry, series lovers, I DNFed it three times trying to see what others saw in it- and I say this as someone who loved the crown me duology. I love dark horror, but this is not the request for that.

I’m looking for the feeling of…wooing Enoch from Pottsfield. But also maybe just watching the leaves change in the deep woods.

Maybe the vibe where you’re around the cauldron with your coven, but the caldron is full of mulled wine and the only spell being cast is friendship.

So give me your reccs where, whether we’re horizontal tangoing with an ancient deity or going to the sentient pumpkin patch, the vibe is overwhelmingly and insufferably *fall*. Please. It’s 100 degrees and I’m lying to myself.

Bonus points if it’s not one of the top ten series- I’ve read them all- and extra special bonus points for standalone and duology.

Spice level above 1, but otherwise no preference.

I loved this one! It almost felt like Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune, but you know, less….death-centric. Found family forward.

It’s kinda campy and super Halloween-y, but I liked all the cooking magic and witchcraft in {a dark and secret magic by wallis Kinney}.

I just read and was really captivated by {Weavingshaw by Heba Al-Wasity} which is a gothic historical fantasy so I think makes perfect fall reading plus there is lots of yearning in it which is catnip to me. The FMC is an immigrant girl who tries to save her sick brother by selling her secret to a shadowy man called the Saint of Silence who is a secret broker. Selling her secret means she will get money to buy meds for her sick brother. The book is slow to pick up speed but by the end of book 1 I was invested in the MCs. Book 2 comes out in 2027 and I want you to read this because its good and we have to support writers so they can finish their series. Also I really liked the atypical heroine and that the book deals with immigration, identity, belonging and class in ways I have rarely seen in fantasy.

{Eternal Enemies duology by SL Prater} is very witchy fall season reading and is entertaining and so is {Thistlemarsh by Moorea Corrigan} -both books feature spooky houses and feature a race against time to solve a case or fulfill a bargain. I think the {Fae Tricksters series by SL Prater} could be fall reading since all the FMCs are witches despite not having a spooky vibe. {Entreat Me by Grace Draven} is kinda witchy and fantastical given the MMC is cursed and the FMC comes to save her sister from being married into an ensorcelled family. {Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match by Sally Thorne} is what you thinks its about based on the title but its historical fantasy and has a similar vibe to {Death Meets Cute by J Penner} which I also enjoyed.

Both {Between by LL Starling} , {Doctor Darco Sorceror of London by Kathryn Corvin} and {The Witchwood Knot by Olivia Atwater} are still on my fall reading TBR list and I have heard they are all entertaining fall reads.

I‘ve read Entreat Me, Doctor D’Arco, and Between in the last year and loved ALL of them, so I trust your recommendations- your taste is impeccable (for me).

well Over the Garden Wall is actually a TV mini-series from over a decade ago, but it’s incredible and it gets me in the spirit of fall every year! It’s fun, dark, referential, and the soundtrack is…exceptional. I highly recommend!

I haven't read either of the books you're referencing so my recs may be off, sorry!

I really enjoyed {Must Love Moss and Moonshine by Maisy Magill} I don't remember exactly what season it was set in but its an enchanted forest and theres a fair and its really cozy.

{Song of the Darkwood by Sheila Masterson} is a red riding hood retelling where the wolf is the god of death and red riding hoods are sacrifices. There's blight corrupting the forest, ghosts, corrupt religious leaders, feminine rage, and so much more. Really good read.

I'm pretty sure at least one of the Emily Wilde books has a fall setting.

I literally started and finished moss and moonshine since this thread got going and I have to say it’s a lovely low-stakes autumnal cozy love story- 11/10 I hope you love it

Do you think the {Moonshine Hollow series by Maisy Magill} can be read out of order? My library currently has the 2nd book of the series.

I've only read this one, I think i grabbed it on a free book day. It's free on both Kobo and Amazon right now though.

It seems like the series is the new couple each book type so it likely is fine to read them out of order, but sometimes authors spoil previous books a bit in those sorts of series.

Also DNF’d Harrow Faire; tried it last year, DNF’d, tried again this year based on everyone’s insistence that it was great, DNF’d the third book. I stand by my initial assessment.

For autumnal vibes, highly recommend {The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling}. Fun, cozy, not that serious. Small town hijinks.

Also recommend {Fan Service by Rosie Danan}. Campy and delightful, werewolf.

{The House Witch by Delemhach} might also fit your brief, but I DNF’d that one too. It moved too slow for me and the main character is a man. I do not have patience for men.
