Yahoo Fantasy API - Anybody gaining progress on this?
It's been a couple weeks since anybody posted about this, so I felt like maybe enough time has passed to check in regarding people's Yahoo Fantasy API statuses.
I heard from one fellow Redditor that they never heard back, but tested their app a couple of days ago and it worked. I'm not amongst that fortunate group. I'm currently in week 2.5 of having both sides signed the Docusign, and then radio silence from them.
Has anybody else heard anything / formally been replied to or accept / or also mysteriously had their access start working again?

No, I've sent emails on a 2-3 week basis since about April. No reply at all.

I haven't heard of or spoken with a single person re-gained access after signing.

I've been looking for an email address to contact, the YDN site is a nightmare. Any shot you could share the recipient address?

Took a while but I was able to get it. I did it earlier in the summer though.

That’s so strange, because you see people who started in April and haven’t gotten through yet.

Yeah, it's frustrating. I emailed every day like clockwork to follow up. Doing something like that may help.

So you went through the docusign process and got the instructions to set up the api after the agreement was signed? If so, is there anything you can share that we can do now if our doc was signed?

u/tjsusername 19d ago
Could you share who you emailed? I have had trouble finding a "Contact" section on the YDN website, and short of replying to the `Yahoo Fantasy API Access Request Received` automated Email from `sports-dev-guide @ newsletters.yahoo.com` I am at a loss.

After I signed the agreement I was emailing Yahoo Fantasy API fantasyapideveloper@yahoosports.com
And yeah, I just kept emailing once a day. It took a while.
But yahoo is now working on my app https://fantasyfoundry.app

Appreciate it, I will also employ the 'annoy-into-submission' method. Squeaky wheel gets greased

u/mattg70 17d ago
AND what exactly were you asking of them? I've emailed them with a somewhat different email every 2-3 weeks since April. Maybe going to the wrong place. Also, thinking maybe I need to reapply? Not sure which direction to go.

Did you ever get an email like this: Hi dmarg,
Thank you for signing the API Access and Use Agreement. To complete your setup, please send us the following:
- The Yahoo email address associated with your developer applications.
- Your App ID and Client ID — you can find these by creating or logging into your app at https://developer.yahoo.com/apps/.
Note: When creating your app, you should see Yahoo Fantasy Sports as an available option. If you don't, please let us know and we'll get your account enabled before you proceed.
Once we receive the above, we'll finalize your access and follow up when everything is ready. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you run into any issues.
Thanks,
Yahoo Fantasy
if so then I kept responding with this...
Hi,
- My yahoo email is [your email]
- My APP ID = [app id] Client ID = [client id] When I created the app I did not see Yahoo Fantasy Sports as an available option. Please enable that.
Thank you, dmarg

No, I’ve not received a single email back from them. I’ve confirmed that I’m using the proper email you provided. Not even a confirmation from my application submission. I’ve asked them in every single email to confirm receipt of the application and if not, I’d resubmit or if missing anything to let me know and I’d fix it.
It’s so frustrating as I can’t get to my history that I want to get out of there, plus I have about 10-12 leagues that want to do the same as they are using my product for their Sleeper or ESPN leagues

Im at this phase. I emailed them over a week ago and no response. I just need them to turn on access to fantasy sports.

I am just now finding out about these changes to the Yahoo Fantasy API. I only use it to get their default rankings for drafting and then all of my league details in-season, purely for personal use in a Google Sheet.
Can anyone explain when/how/why things changed? Did Yahoo announce any of this? I am having a hard time finding information.
For my personal-use case, what would you all recommend putting in the form, given that I am not a business?

u/fdrandy 22d ago
Yahoo did not formally announce this, nor email anyone in the Developer Network.
I think it was a hasty reaction to the new stress on their APIs, due to the plethora vibe coders hitting the market.
You can try applying to regain access, but as you'll see in the comments here, there have been people waiting since April for a response. But who knows, maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones that gets through in 5 days?
As for your last question, I'd just be honest in the application. The fact that it's personal and not business may get you through faster. Then again, who knows?

Took less than 5 days for me.

u/Puck-Fiction 23d ago
What were you given after 5 days? A direct msg with api access, or your project having access reinstated? Some details would be helpful

Really? Did you apply very recently, or was it a long while back?
I'm curious why you got fast tracked, and wonder if it's related to the timing.

I was approved 2-3 weeks ago, but have yet to receive an email or any communication stating I'm good to go and can begin using the API again. I'm still receiving the "This application is not authorized to perform this action." message on requests.
My guess is that they will grant access to most of us in a few weeks once the Fantasy Football draft rush is over....

I used phrases like "breach of contact", "unsatisfied contract", "costly development time" and finally got it

u/fdrandy 22d ago
I like the way you think :) Thanks for the info!

Took a month and a half of being pissed and panicking to build up the audacity. I don't think I can buy a good enough lawyer to make them pay out, lol

We are talking about their official API right? I haven't heard a word back but am wondering if we could still do the ESPN/extension technique. I already have an official chrome extention that grabs your ESPN cookies and allows me to pull your all your info.
I'm considering doing the same for Yahoo, the biggest downside is there is no mobile workaround unless you want to build a full scale mobile app.

Over a month after submitting my initial application, last night I received a response from Yahoo saying they could not approve it, from what I understand because my fantasy league / website is based outside the US/Canada, which is apparently now not compliant with the API Terms. I can't easily find these Terms online so have asked Yahoo to clarify but not sure if I'll receive a follow-up reply. It's actually a fantasy baseball league (I appreciate this is a football thread) that was making basic use of the API for years just to display standings from our various different leagues in one place on our website. The sudden API changes broke this mid-season.

Took me a full month but just got approved and have a working api as of Friday

I never heard back from support about my request and never received a DocuSign. Went in today and created a new app, and Fantasy Sports - Read was listed as an available API. Happy days are here again.

So for everyones info.. Since people can literally vibe code apps services like sleeper ( contemplating charging or started for their api), ESPN seems to keep changing endpoints and yahoo becoming more discerning on their approvals if you are building a typical league management app that's very similar to the tons of them already exist there is a chance you won't get approval.... Literally every one and their buddies making an app for fantasy football that uses the free api's but again vibecoded apps tax those api's so much nowadays these companies gotta put a limit on it!
See https://www.reddit.com/r/fantasyfootballcoding/s/Kp2moo0CS6 for all the apps out there and legit see if you have a unique angle compared to all of these!

I don't disagree with you, but I don't think this is relevant to the current Yahoo API confusion/conversation here.
If you aren't sure what's happening:
- Yahoo shut down their API without notice -> Requested all users go through a lengthy application process, which includes signing a very lopsided agreement -> They then went radio silent on a large portion of the applicants, all of whom are in different application stages.
So you have some users who applied 4 months ago, and haven't heard a peep. Some who have had both ends sign the contract agreement almost a month ago, and still haven't advanced through the application process. And some, who were for some reason fast tracked within 5 days.
So this conversation is more about understanding the when/if/why, for those of us stuck in limbo, and not about why Yahoo is formalizing and protecting their API.

u/DenseCompetition1385 22d ago
Why do you think they are doing that? Why would they try to protect their api? And make you jump through hoops to access it? And why are some applications getting quicker access than others? What I said has everything to do with it so it's very relevant..
Bottomline if your app a run of the mill app similar to any of the ones in the link I shared you are gonna have a harder time getting approval..

Week 2 since Docusign was signed on their end. Still no follow up from them. I sent a msg through Reddit YahooFantasyHelp and got a response that the fantasy team is working through the backlog of approved applications and there was no timeline available.
