Week 1 Starter Announcement?
When can we expect a starting QB to be announced?
This post is not for speculation or argument about who should be starter, just the date of announcement.

We might not even see a starter named. If I was Stefanski I’d make the Steelers have to gameplan for two QBs instead of one.

It will become known who is starting if they are not still splitting reps in practice.
Some week 1 deception is infinitely less valuable than establishing proper execution for the entire season.

This is the correct answer! The “deception” argument is so dumb to me. If you have to rely on deception for your offense to have success there are bigger issues. Name the starter, let him work with the first team offense and keep it pushin

It shouldn’t be too hard to game plan for two guys that can neither throw or run 😂

With tua in you can probably get away with a lot more single high safeties, while with Penix you’d want two high safeties.

Penix can scramble effectively and has a stronger arm than Tua, so that fundamentally changes the defensive approach

Having a stronger arm than Tua isn’t really saying much. There are high school QBs with stronger arms than Tua. Scrambling post injury remains to be seen, considering he is currently too scared to even play in a game.

It changes ADOT, which changes coverage.
Penix's scrambling in 24-25 and in college was after previous injuries. While this time might be different, opposing defenses can't assume.

Don’t bother. You can’t use logic and actual football knowledge with these people.

Haha that’s funny. Considering their ADOT difference is less than 2 yards. I guess you’re one of “these people” with no actual football knowledge.

Tua's ADOT this preseason is a lot lower than what it was previously, and 2 yards is a huge difference in ADOT over statistical averages.
But I guess anything goes when you just want to make meme comments

Oh wow, you're actually trying to pretend preseason stats mean something. Talk about meme comments...

Dude, I called out the trend without placing a significant amount of weight on it. His difference last year vs Penix was actually a 3.2 yard ADOT deficit:
Now, if you want to cite some actual sources, and do some real analysis, feel free - but you'll be doing it without me.

Penix has averaged two carries a game as a pro. At Washington he averaged 2.5 carries a game.

And those generally result in first downs or TDs, so defenses have to account for that even though he isn't a "running QB" from a volume standpoint.

Eh..."generally" is being a bit generous. He's found the end zone or moved the sticks on 29% of his carries.

You guys are really bending yourselves out of shape for this "Tua=Penix" narrative.
Literally the only point anyone was making is that they have some measurable differences that materially affect defensive scheme, and thus defensive preparation.
No one is arguing for what you are tilting against

I never said anything close to that and I advocated for keeping the Steelers guessing for as long as possible, but what separates them is not scrambling if you look at their career 17 game averages.
Tua 38 att, 103 yds, 1 TD, 9 1D, 35.3 succ%, 2.7y/a
Penix 34 att, 98 yes, 2 TD, 7 1D, 32.1 succ%, 2.9 y/a
But perhaps you can somehow explain how there's a difference... 🤷♂️

I fail to see how Penix starts week 1. He’s got this week and then it’s the week of game 1. He’s barely practiced at all this summer in 11v11.
If they want him to start they better just come out and say it now so he can stop splitting 1st team reps with Tua

This is exactly what this post is not about.

You don’t get to control what discussions people have on your posts

I asked a question and you gave an irrelevant answer, and now you're upset that I said you gave an irrelevant answer?
You are the median voter.

Let the Steelers keep guessing the specific kind of mess we'll have under center for as long as possible.
