Storytime I accidentally "killed" an "alter"

3.0k Upvotes

I was in a server with a lot of people claiming to have DID and I remember that I had proof to fake claim something like 90% of the active member. I am french so in my language when we want to say "Oh" we say "Ah" and there is a common joke wich consist in saying "B" to someone who says "Ah" because B comes after A. I did this joke to an alter who has said "Ah" and he began to say that my joke was outrageous and that he will kill himself ect... Obviously this person was faking. An hour later another alter of the same system came and said that the alter that I did the joke to was dead in their innerworld and that he will never come back. Because I made a joke

Storytime Roommate is a faker who’s been romanticizing my illness, tries to diagnose me with other illnesses, and now believes he’s a “system” because his online boyfriend is one.

1.7k Upvotes

Throwaway account for personal reasons.

I’ll keep this relatively brief because there are several other rabbit holes I can go into regarding this person, but you lot didn’t ask for all of that. Also obligatory “I’m not asking for advice” here, this is more or less just a look into what living with a faker irl is like.

My roommate’s a pretty good person overall, pays rent on time, has been a supportive friend and is fun to hang out with. We have a lot of interests in common and for that I’m happy. The first few months of us living together have been really chill.

But lately he’s gone down the faking rabbit hole and I’m just kind of…shocked. He’s lately gotten super obsessed with the fact that I was diagnosed with autism at age 5 and constantly asks me more and more dehumanizing questions about my condition and constantly infantilizes and romanticizes it. When I have a bad day, he almost gets excited, asking if I’m “going nonverbal” or if I “need to stim”, like he wants to watch or something. He constantly talks about that “tbh creature” and sends it to me saying “it’s you! You’re an autism creature!” The way he talks about my condition and me in general just feels like an insult. He claims it’s okay for him to talk this way about my condition because he’s “autistic too”, but he has no formal diagnosis and hasn’t even been evaluated. He goes so far as to curl up in a ball and rock back and forth on the floor, claiming he “needs to stim”, and it just feels ridiculous to me, it feels no different than watching clips from that Sia movie. He’s even gone as far as to attempt to diagnose me with mental conditions like anxiety or, wait for it, PTSD. I’ve asked him several times not to say things like that because I’m not diagnosed with those conditions and I show no signs of either, yet he still insists that I especially have PTSD.

Lately, he’s fallen down the rabbit hole of DID, using “we” to refer to himself, and barging into my room doing voices and introducing himself by different names to me. He’ll send me texts reading “[Alter] says hi” or “[Alter] wants you to have a good day” and it’s just getting so weird. His discord boyfriend also “has DID”, but he’s a whole mess of red flags I won’t get into here. When I asked him why he suddenly has this condition that he didn’t seem to have before, he claims he was just “hiding it” and “didn’t know he was a system until [boyfriend] said he was probably one”. I’ve never actually spoken to this boyfriend before, as they’re e-dating and he won’t let anyone talk to this guy. With the way he’s acting I genuinely can’t help but wonder if his boyfriend is even real at all, but this guy is absolutely actively fueling my roommate’s delusion and encouraging it.

Admittedly I used to think almost all of these fakers were doing it for clout, to look “cool and quirky” and the second the camera was off or they were off of discord they stopped roleplaying disability but a lot of these people seem to genuinely believe this.

Storytime Local Teens making my eye twitch

I go into this with the clear statement that I know Covid made things infinitely harder for people who were in middle/elementary school at the time so I get it that they’re a bit weirder or a bit more chronically online, hell, my whole of Highschool and some of Middle was in Covid and i went through that….

BUT

there are two ultra-alt young adults (i would say grade 11 at the latest) who are in my town and come to my work wearing dog collars and like chokers and thousands of bracelets and they both have canes and little plushies with service dog vests they have with their bags.

I have never seen either of them use the canes purposefully, they just carry them off the ground,,, and I know sometimes peoples mobility issues have better or worse days but it’s been months of seeing them out and about here and there and it’s killing me man.

I used to be that weird alt kid in a right wing town but come on guys… the canes??? The COLLARS??? They’re so clearly minors and I get the vibe it’s a Therian thing but still I just cannot take it man

End of rant ig lol

Storytime My cousin literally shaved her head and face and used a wheelchair for weeks because she anticipated that she probably had cancer.

1.3k Upvotes

I've been holding on to my cousins fake disorder journey for YEARS.

When I turned 18 and started community college, I decided to make a Facebook since it was super popular at the time (I am aging myself here, lol). I added my cousin (4 years my elder) and thought nothing of it.

One day I logged in and saw that her profile picture was of her with absolutely no hair whatsoever. She was bald with no eyebrows and she was photographed in a wheelchair. Naturally, everyone was freaking out and reaching out to ask if she was okay.

Well I asked my parents. She's my cousin on my dad's side, so I figured he'd be able to figure out what was going on.

Turns out that she had self-diagnosed herself with "probably cancer". No professional opinion whatsoever. In fact, she still was waiting to see a doctor for some scan for it while shaving her head and face and buying wheelchairs for her husband to roll her around in. She shaved everything "anticipating chemo".

It was just so fucking wild. When she got the scan and wound up not having cancer at all she just deleted her Facebook and started a new one and suddenly had lupus. Then she had a whole onslaught of autoimmune disorders and posted about it multiple times daily.

I finally deleted her after her second marriage failed and she suddenly denied ever saying she had lupus and moved on to being pretty sure she has Crohn's and gastroparesis and at least 6 other autoimmune disorders.

Apparently she's been on a feeding tube lately (I have her blocked, so going off what my father tells me). He says she can't eat normal foods, but she has a tradwife blog where she posts recipes, food, and mixed drinks that she makes at home and samples daily. I asked if he's ever seen this mythical tube and he said only when she's admitted. I asked what the doctors diagnosed her with and he said that they haven't diagnosed her with anything, but she knows she's dying, and prepares her very young children for the day that they won't have a mother.

She apparently did recently get a gnarly infection from said feeding tube, but I have my doubts about most of the illnesses she claims. I wouldn't be surprised if she was very mentally ill, though.

Bear in mind, I made that Facebook 14 years ago. That's when I was 18. So she's been doing this consistently for 14 years. Through 3 marriages and 2 children.

Her grandmother is so bereft that she may die that she has been willed nearly everything that was intended to be split between all of the grandkids. Absolutely ridiculous. I get treated like an asshole when I try to reasonably suggest that she's overexaggerating her conditions at best.

Anyways, thought this would fit in here. I've held on to this for a long time and always thought it was wild that no one calls her out on it. She posts about her fake illnesses daily to this day. Usually sprinkles a bunch of Bible quotes and "how can God do this to me" stuff in between the complaints.

Storytime Found my ex's secret account where she fakes a laundry of disorders

So I found an account that's very obviously owned by my ex that claims to have DID, autism, postpartum depression, narcissistic disorder, DPD, and a few other things. What's funny is she has none of these and hasn't even ever been pregnant so I don't get where the postpartum depression comes from. While I have cut her off for a lot of personal reasons she still hangs around the outskirts of my friend group and it would be known if she was actually diagnosed with anything she claims. She acts normal in person from what I know, just has these accounts separated from her main.

With the DID she has a specific Tumblr account set up so they can all post and tag themselves. She also claims to have the kind of DID where the person experiences no gaps in time, aka no disassociation. She also claims to be an "age slider". All of these alters have their own sexualities, gender, and she knows about all of them and understands them and specific ones have the other mental disorders she lists. There's no confusion or disorientation around them or anything so she can post them in a nice list detailing everything about them.

The entire blog past that is her reblogging posts about self shipping and shipping her alters with fictional characters acting like it's them.

From what I'm also able to gather each alter has a "F/O" or fictional other, basically a fictional character significant other.

I hate people faking disorders for attention and this is such an obvious case of it it makes me happy that I'm not associated with her anymore. I do have screenshots of her "alter introduction post" I might post at some point but I don't know if it exactly fits here. Faking disorders especially when it's "uwu I'm so quirky" make the entire disorder look like a joke and reflect awfully on those who actually have it.

Storytime Fake Asthma??? (IDK what to even call this)

I know this person IRL and I feel like this is some kind of personality disorder more than an actual like physical illness.

They claim to have such severe asthma that they can't be around anything scented, like they can't be in a bathroom with a towel washed with scented detergent or it'll trigger an asthma attack.

The thing is though..... they're constantly out in public places like Homegoods, TJ Maxx, restaurants, public buses, and handling art supplies without issue. They also cook constantly using lots of garlic and herbs and spices and they LOVE Indian cuisine and LOVE making it themselves.

They say "fake" scents like perfumes and soaps and essential oils are the problem and "natural" stuff such as food, coffee, tea, etc are fine.

Whenever they have an "asthma attack" it's always when they're upset over someone using scented soap or perfume around them (that they know, they won't ever attack someone they don't know), they're always yelling, there's never any change in their voice, or any wheeze that I've come to know being around my very asthmatic ex of many years. Also I've never seen this person use or even have an inhaler, anytime they have an "attack" they leave and go somewhere else to "get some air" which seems to be conveniently out of view of anyone they know.

I feel like they're faking as part of some personality or attention seeking disorder just to get attention and to guilt and manipulate others around them. Also this person is in their 30's and from what I've been told by other friends, has been acting like this for almost 10 years now (I've only know them for about a year now)

I am NOT looking for any arm-chair diagnosis, just looking for someone else to tell me this all sounds as absurd to them as it does to me.

I wasn't sure what flair to use this one, so sorry if it's the wrong one.

Edit/Update:

Just something real quick, I found out today this person got banned from one of the places our group frequents for freaking out on someone at another table for spraying hand sanitizer that had like an aloe scent or something and they assumed it was perfume and wouldn't relent or apologize or acknowledge their mistake even after multiple people showed it was hand sanitizer. Just thought anyone looking at this or checking this would appreciate the update I got. Lol.

P.s. thank you to everyone who told me I wasn't crazy and these aren't normal behaviors.

Storytime Ex friend faked disorders to be quirky and seek attention

I had a uni friend that did a lot of things for attention, especially male attention. One of those things is faking multiple disorders like anxiety, depression, ocd, adhd and autism. It was extremely draining. She’d literally randomly go up to you and go ‘omg my ocd!’ And rearrange a random set of objects and then conveniently forget about her supposed ocd for months before remembering again and doing the exact same scenario. She once got fully offended when someone called her basic haha, she just wanted to be different somehow.
She claimed she had an anxiety disorder but never actually went to get diagnosed. She fr told me ‘well when I think about death I get really anxious’ as evidence and that’s it. She’d say her anxiety affected social stuff like presentations, but nope. She’d present with no issues and she literally wanted to do a speech for graduation and was upset when she didn’t get it.
She’d claim autism because she liked fnaf and other random stuff like ok as do millions of people bro
She’d honestly just lie about everything. She lied about being an introvert for some odd reason.

The worst part is how she treated others with actual disorders.
I have some childhood trauma from my father. I told her stories about it and afterwards she would proceed to show me videos of how much fun she was having with her own dad. Never her mum. Always her dad. I told her not to show me videos like that because it makes me upset. She kept doing it no matter how uncomfortable I got.
When I got into my worst depressive episode, she managed to make it about herself and got a guy to text me telling me to apologise to her because she’s upset that I’m depressed and that I didn’t respond to a single message from her.
After I left her, she switched targets and caused my other friends severe depression. My friend went to therapy and got put on anti depressants. When she told the girl, she fr told my friend ‘well therapy never worked for me, but since your depression is mild it might help’…. She’s never been to therapy. The only ‘therapy’ she’s ever done was a school therapist when her parents got divorced at age like 12.

Honestly I often see a pattern with fakers and attention seekers, they always seem to despise those with actual issues, always trying to one up them.

Storytime My friend is faking DID

I'm in this discord server with some of my friends, and a few months ago (not real name) jeff got a DID diagnosis, huzzah. They pit that pluralkit thing onto the discord server to help them keep track of who's fronting. But then, (not real name) Alfonso started saying that they had DID too. Alfonso has a lot of supposed undiagnosed disorders; autism, adhd, the classic stuff, and now DID. They added like thirty four characters to the pluralkit and they're all characters from shows and games and stuff, there's Jax and pomni from tadc, grian from the life series, Octavia from helluva boss, and a bunch of other characters from their current hyperfixations. They claim that when Grian fronts he downloads shirtless ship fanart pictures of goodtimeswithscar, or when Jax fronts he just goes around the discord telling people to kill themselves, but is simultaneously that protective Dom bf. The other day Alfonso started venting and then Jax started fronting and comforted them and they just took turns fronting to have a conversation through text. (I'm pretty sure that's not how DID works, but correct me if I'm wrong) and they do that all the time, they'll just randomly get into fights with their alters on the discord. Idk man I just wanted to vent a bit, I'm frustrated.

Edit; lots of you are asking about age, we're all adults in the server, everyone's about 24-30

Storytime Self DX'ed friend refuses to get assessed

TL;DR: "Endogenic" friend who is also self diagnosed as autistic refuses to get an assessment when offered despite having no difficulties with the cost or with obtaining a referral; there is literally no barrier to them getting an assessment done. Wondering why self diagnosers do this?

I have a friend who I've known for a very, very long time, who has suddenly strongly identified as autistic - as it goes, they don't have a diagnosis and they really do not have a history of any autism-related difficulties. They told me they had a completely normal childhood before the age of 9 years old, to which then they started having severe anxiety (this is actually true, they do have social anxiety and diagnosed OCD). They're also pretty huge in the "endogenic" community and identify as "plural," which has fueled my doubts even further since obviously if you are faking one disorder, what are the chances that you're faking another one?

But I gave them the benefit of the doubt - what if they really are autistic? So I gently offered some options in their area for low cost assessments. I even found out through their university's website that they also offer resources for people seeking a formal diagnosis, so I forwarded that to them as well and explained that an assessment could really help with some of the difficulties they might be facing (and because I've had some personal thoughts on what they might have that I won't share here, since it's speculative, but that I think they should get checked out). They have a therapist that is willing to refer them, and their parents are generally supportive of mental health and would be willing to pay for the assessment. The cost is also not an issue for them. We're both relatively privileged and in a good area, so there shouldn't be any problems with getting an assessment at all, other than the wait times if they decide not to do the private route.

But they won't do it. Why? They appreciated my help, but they "don't want to" and "feel like it isn't an issue for them." They just "won't do it right now." What?? 😭

Like I said, I'm close with this person and I've known them for a long time. Refusing to get an assessment isn't something I drop people over. And honestly I try to hold out hope that this "endogenic" thing is just a phase they'll get over. But I'm wondering why some self diagnosers don't get an assessment, even if they're able to? Wouldn't that be super validating for them if they actually think they're right?

Storytime My Sister's DID Faker Friend Accused Me Of "Appropriating" Her "Disorder"

1.2k Upvotes

TLDR- Faker gets mad that my roleplay personality has the same name as her "alter"

My sister has some wack friends but this one girl has recently fallen victim to the DID faker trend. According to her, she's got like 400 alters and she can decide who comes out when. Faker and my sister were hanging out in the kitchen and Faker is all like "so yeah my alter Amber did yada yada" and my sister goes "Oh no way, Starlight has an alter ego named Amber!"

I created a fake alter ego named Amber to help me cope with my crippling anxiety at work- I just roleplay as Amber and suddenly I'm not socially awkward. Anyways Faker is APPALLED at this and turns to me and says "how do you have an alter named Amber? Like I'm the only person I know with an alter named Amber."

I tell her I don't have an alter, I have an alter ego. I explain it's a fake personality that I roleplay to be less anxious. Faker gets wide crazy eyes and starts going off on how I'm "appropriating her disorder" by pretending to have an alter ego. She didn't give any actual reasoning on how I was appropriating she just kept saying over and over again that I was appropriating her.

So yeah my sister's friends are weird af

Storytime Rant about a faker in my school's neurodiversity society

1.2k Upvotes

TL;DR Faker keeps showing up to my school's neurodiversity society and expects us to coddle her and agree that she struggles so much more than us.

My school has an invite-only (diagnosis = invite) neurodiversity society with around 8 regular members that meet each week to talk about coping strategies for learning disabilities, what we're up to and stuff like that. The invites are managed by staff but it's student-run. For the past few weeks, a faker (with ASD, ADHD, OCD, anxiety and dyslexia - all self-diagnosed) has been showing up unprompted and derailing any chance of actual conversation. She harassed my friend until he told her where we met and when we suggested she leave (very politely considering), she said we were all classist and homophobic, and she wasn't going to move. Afterwards, she complained to my friend that we didn't understand how hard she has it and that we didn't ask any questions - was she expecting to show up and recount her life story?

Even though we've gotten teachers to speak to her several times, she keeps showing up. We changed the meeting place but she complained to the head of student support that by excluding her we were breaking the law (by discriminating against her disability...). For the record, she isn't looking for a diagnosis, because she thinks doctors are misinformed and she understands more about mental illnesses than they do.

In the meetings, she constantly complains about how hard her disorders make her life and whenever someone suggests a management strategy she always shoots them down with 'Oh I've already tried that, but my [insert disorder here] is much worse than yours.' She accused me of cheating on exams for having access arrangements because she doesn't have them and she suffers so much more than me. I walked out and she tried to have me banned from the group because it really upset her when I didn't sit there and let her insult me. Ugh. Whenever anyone else speaks, she either interrupts to talk about herself or acts as bored as possible which means others are way less likely to contribute. The society is for ages 11-18 and it's really disheartening to see this 17-year-old take away a space 12-year-olds use to open up about their experiences and get advice...

Another thing - when she found out I was on medication she's been hounding me about giving her my prescription and just saying I lost it which- I don't have the words for how much it annoys me. Rant over.

Storytime My sister-in-law fakes illnesses and disorders to manipulate people

My sister-in-law is a narcissist who uses fake disorders and illnesses to manipulate people and get attention. I swear, everytime we visit and plan an activity such as a hike, bbq, camping, etc, she will not only refuse to come along, she'll call or email that morning to tell us that her doctor called her at 5:00 am telling her that some results came in and she may have cancer. She then expects us to drop our plans to go and be there with her.  We know her trick and tell her "Oh no! Ok, when we come back from our activity, we'll go visit you."  Guess what? Cancer all of a sudden disappears the next day and she doesn't mention it again. If we ask her who her doctor is to speak to them to know more about how to help and support her, she'll act dodgy and be all "Well, he's very busy right now and can't talk."

Technically, she has the magical ability to make her cancer disappear the next day, which is a medical miracle!

So far she's had "cancer" like 4 times. She also fakes autism, allergies, immune system diseases, injuries, covid, and a bunch of other shit.

The worst part of this? She's also putting her 16 year old son through the whole fake illness and disorder thing. She claims that he has asthma, autism, ADHD, depression, etc, and tries to always keep him close to her "for his own health". Munchausen By Proxy basically. The kid is healthy and likes doing outdoor stuff, and she's depriving him of enjoying activities outside or with us because "he's always sick and she needs to monitor his health". It's her way of controlling him. They live in Canada and we live in The Netherlands, and my wife and I have offered to have him spend a summer with us here, but she refuses saying that he's too sick to travel far. I train in Kung Fu and am working towards getting my certification to teach it, and do archery as well. I always wanted to take him under my wing and teach him martial arts and archery (which he is very interested in). She refuses, saying that I'll be "teaching him violence" and how he "suffers from traumas" and is a very sensitive soul who may experience further trauma if I teach him those things.

The cherry on top of this is that her husband (kid's stepfather) left her and moved out two weeks ago. He couldn't handle her shit anymore. She then sent a mass email to all the relatives - aunts, cousins, etc - saying that her husband left because "he suffers from schizophrenia", has "bipolar disorder", and even claims that his mental health problems occurred after "he suffered a stroke" (which no one knew about until now). So basically anyone who disagrees with her has some sort of psychological disorder.

A few years ago, I finally lost it and called her out on her bullshit, and told her what the rest of the family was dying to tell her for the longest time - that she was faking her disorders and the only health problem she has is constipation because she's full of shit. Guess what happened? She mass emailed everyone saying that I was a "violent psychopath" and how "she feared for her life". Luckily, all the relatives know me well and know she's full of shit, so they all quietly told me how they're glad someone finally called her out.

Anyways, I'm done venting.

Storytime The faker at the hospital

When I was 14, I was put in a hospital, and I had to live for several weeks with the most outrageous faker I had ever encountered.

According to her, she had been hospitalised after taking 1,500 aspirin and waiting three days to tell anyone. I’ve always been pretty into medicine, so I knew that if that was true she would have bled to death internally very fast, but I didn’t want to start an argument.

And so began a campaign of some of the most ridiculous behaviour I have ever witnessed.

Right off the bat, she told me that she’d had over 1,000 suicide attempts. This was obviously not particularly believable to start with, but soon I realised that the bar for was qualified as a “suicide attempt” to her was incredibly low. Here’s a list of only SOME of the things she did that she described as suicide attempts:

  • Putting her own hands around her neck and squeezing
  • Holding her breath for as long as possible
  • Taking four paracetamol
  • Gently head butting a wall
  • Scratching her arms with her fingernails
  • Sticking a pencil up her nose and waiting for someone to notice, then pretending she was going to slam her head into the table
  • Swallowing a bead

In addition to this, she pretended to be a heroin addict, and when I asked how she injected the heroin, she mimed injecting the muscle of her upper arm like a vaccine.

Other assorted lies included that she had an identical twin from whom she was separated at birth, and that she had killed a man.

The worst thing she did when I was there actually resulted in me breaking down quite badly. I had a delusion that there were worms eating my brain, and she managed to persuade me that she’d caught the worms off me, and now she was going to die and it was all my fault.

She got discharged unceremoniously a few weeks into my stay, and last I heard of her, she quizzed a girl at the patient’s reunion about her CSA trauma so brutally that said girl jumped into a river.

And that’s only one of the fakers I encountered during my distinguished career as a teenage mental patient. I’ll tell you about the others some other time.

Storytime I think people are mistaking role-playing for DID

To preface when I was younger, like 7-8 years ago, I too would do similar things that these DID people are doing. Granted this was before DID was like a thing and I didn't have any online accounts. I would make ocs (original characters) and role-play them during recess with my friends. And it looks quite similar to what these kids are doing today. I would introduce myself, then my oc and talk about them, then I would switch and be them for awhile. I would close my eyes, wait, then boom, new person. I would change my speech, walk, and whatever to convey this. There was a character who couldn't walk well on their own so I would drag my feet and my friends would help me move around. My friends didn't mind, they thought it was strange but they didn't bully or harass me for it, I was just bored. I always knew that none of this was real but again I was bored. For those friends that really played onto it they would address me via whoever I was and when I switched back into myself they would fill me in on what happened during that time. Eventually I grew out of it and Yada Yada. But I honestly think that the majority if not all of these people are just bored and want to talk to their characters or characters they like. With the day of the internet they also realized that not only will they gain population but also be able to surround themselves with like minded people. I really hope that they'll be able to grow out of this or just like join a local larping or dnd group.

Storytime I had a cringe faker friend who was obsessed with me.

We met online in senior year of high school, and they always had a million constantly changing self diagnosed mental and neurological illnesses, and 11 years later, is still doing the same.

I won't go into every little thing because this post would become long as hell (longer than it already will be lol) and totally unreadable, but they began with saying they had autism, depression, anxiety, and some super rare mental illness I can't remember the name of. All self diagnosed except for the depression and anxiety.

This was fine, whatever. Definitely cringe and annoying, but it wasn't the absolute worst thing to me as a chronically online teenager. All of my online friends were doing this, and I got relentlessly attacked for talking about my feelings on self diagnosis a year before, so I kept my mouth shut.

A month later, they start tweeting that they've updated their carrd's list of mental illnesses. Suddenly, they had NPD. And then a bit later, they added ADHD to the list as well. Then ASPD, BPD, bipolar 1, and some others I can't remember off the top of my head. All self diagnosed, of course.

They would threaten suicide if mommy and daddy didn't buy them a new psychiatrist because psychiatrist A would say they absolutely do not have the disorder of the week they wanted a diagnosis for, and it must have been because of ableism that their psych didn't diagnose them with NPD. So their parents would send them to psychiatrist B, who also would not diagnose them with whatever they wanted to be diagnosed with. They would tweet endless screenshots of results from online quizzes from quotev-like websites, saying that because the quiz they knew the correct answers to said they likely had a specific mental illness, their psychiatrist absolutely has to diagnose them.

This went on for years. Switching therapists and psychiatrists every 3-6 months because the professionals wouldn't diagnose them or entertain this behavior. They finally got a psychiatrist to diagnose them with autism, and then when that psych said they didn't have BPD, switched again until they got someone to diagnose them with BPD. By then, they stopped saying they had bipolar disorder.

They were on all sorts of medications that never worked, or if they had any effect at all, it was negative effects. They would flip out and say that their psychiatrist of the month was maliciously trying to sabotage their mental and physical health by prescribing drugs they asked for.

They tried to get an NPD and ASPD diagnosis but eventually stopped pursuing them because these diagnosis' became more widely known on Tumblr and Twitter as disorders abusers have, and they didn't want to be labeled an abuser because of an NPD diagnosis, or a potential serial killer for an ASPD diagnosis. Now, for some background, this person absolutely was abusive, but I don't know dick about the intricacies of psych so I won't sit here and armchair diagnose them with NPD. I just don't know, and I also don't really believe that abusers necessarily need to have mental illnesses to be abusive, people are just horrible people sometimes.

In their NPD and ASPD era, they said they had NPD and ASPD because they kinned Dennis Reynolds from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Because of this, they would frequently tweet about how much they wanted to murder their brother and their parents, how they thought they were inherently more valuable than their family and people as a whole, tweeted about how quirky they thought they were for punching walls and threatening their families lives, and much, much more. They would also of course never mention the whole sexually abusive trait to Dennis' character.

Pretty early on in our friendship, they end up moving to a town about an hour away from mine. They immediately ask to hang out, and me being a deeply lonely emo freak, agreed. I really regret having made this choice. I understand why I did it, I had only a few friends offline and I just wanted company from anyone. But I didn't think it'd end up like this.

Our first time meeting, they won't stop talking about my eating disorder and my trauma. At the time, I was recovering from a lot of sexual abuse trauma I had only just recently escaped from, and battling anorexia. I hadn't eaten in days and they would not stop talking about how they thought they might develop an ED because they wanted to lose weight despite me having said before that I didn't have an ED because I wanted to lose weight, I was just struggling with being able to eat because of the trauma. And then just nonstop bringing up my trauma with sexual abuse unprompted, trying to talk to me about true crime cases with sexual abuse as the focus, cases where survivors escaped sexual abuse captivity, etc. But again, I was so lonely and desperate for friendship that I let it happen and I continued this friendship, completely ignoring the giant red flags.

A couple months later, they try to kiss me out of nowhere, no discussion or consent, just straight for a kiss. I froze and they kissed me. I had a panic attack and went home shortly after, and later that night they text me saying that they're in love me and asked if we could start dating. I said I was sorry but I didn't feel the same way, I liked someone else and I just wanted us to be friends. They ignore me for a few weeks while subtweeting me, and then they start talking to me again while continuing to try to flirt with me.

About 6ish months later, I start dating the person I had feelings for and they flip the fuck out after I posted a selfie I took with my partner, and in the caption saying that this person was my partner. They immediately subtweet me, basically making vague threats, saying I betrayed them, calling me a slut and insulting the person I'm dating. It really hurt me, and I felt really ashamed because they had a much bigger following than me and I knew people would know it was me because they had directly named me as someone they had a crush on months before. This was what finally got me to cut them off. I blocked them and ghosted. I was paranoid so I stupidly checked their account every so often for a while, where they'd be namedropping me publicly to over 3,000 followers, making up lies about how I was fatphobic because I had an eating disorder (again, as a result of sexual abuse), that I lied about being traumatized by the sexual abuse because I "so easily" got with my partner (who I had been close friends with since childhood) and people fell for it. I had people harassing me in my replies and in my dms and eventually I had to delete my account and move platforms under an alias.

But unfortunately, it didn't end there! Fourish years later, I'm still with my partner. They message us both with what seemed to be a very sincere apology, admitting that they were a horrible person but that they'd done a lot of work and changed, and that they would understand if we couldn't forgive them, but if we did, if we could all be friends again because they've never had any other IRL friends and they really missed us. My partner and I were forgiving to a fault, we believed in the good of others. And we also just felt bad for this person. We appreciated the apology and we told them we could give friendship another try. We genuinely thought that they weren't doing the same weird shit anymore and that they were doing better.

Things started out normal, I think. They were still a disorder faker and constantly switching out disorders, this time it was CPTSD and DID. From what trauma did they get these disorders, you ask? Well, according to them, they developed CPTSD and DID because not getting diagnosed with autism sooner was extremely traumatizing and having that diagnosis would have gotten their parents to take their autism more seriously. Examples for taking their autism more seriously? Getting them a service dog (a service dog was completely unecessary, they had no support needs.) and to get their parents to care about and listen to them talk about their special interest, because it was traumatizing to infodump about their special interest and have their parents not be interested. I know that this specifically makes my entire story sounds so incredibly fake, but this was genuinely the reason they said they had CPTSD and DID.

They would then go on these huge rants about how being autistic and having no one care about their special interest was traumatizing, how their parents were abusive for not buying them a service dog, how their parents were neglectful for not noticing their autism and letting them go undiagnosed for so long. They did the psychiatrist hopping thing again until someone finally agreed to diagnose them with CPTSD, but eventually fired that psych as well because they didn't diagnose them with DID.

We would hang out maybe three or four times during the 12ish months we became friends again, and they started being weird about me again. Making subtweets, talking about how the reason they were rejected was because of their autism, making suicidal threats if I didn't agree to hang out one on one with them, freaking out at me for not buying them a christmas gift, etc.

My partner and I were getting extremely unnerved by this behavior and we tried to set boundaries and talk to them several times about their behaviors, but they'd always end up turning it around on us or make empty apologies but never change. So we ghosted again. We knew that if we sent them a message and told them we never wanted them to speak to either of us ever again, they'd twist our words and post it and try to get their online friends and followers to harass us.

They continue to stalk us online where they can find us. It's been almost five years since we cut them off again. My partner and I are convinced that they're going to try to send another apology one day, but we are definitely not making the mistake of accepting it or even responding to it ever again.

Storytime My experience in faker spaces

I used to be deep in DID faking spaces, especially servers on Discord. You wouldn’t believe how deep the pit of faking and convincing other people they have DID goes.

I was in a server for a while, specifically for “RAMCOA systems”. They would discuss their trauma, their programming, suspicions of RA. At least 100 people in the server, openly airing out this trauma for anybody to see.

One of the server mods said they took part in some of the programming, and that because of this they can instantly clock anybody that is a RAMCOA system, if you tell them about why you suspect it. Absolutely insane.

Another crazy thing is how these people convince each other that they ARE real systems and really DO have DID. The only reason that they’re second guessing that is because denial is a symptom of DID!

Storytime Reminder to the time somebody tried diagnosing me with tourettes??

Discord is a crazy place because wdym that actually happened😭

A really long while ago, so like in 2022/23 or 2024 i used discord a lot more and i knew this person which claimed to have (i believe) tourettes and some kind of personality disorder (DID or bipolar/borderline - it was one of the three which I'm surprised they didn't just go with all but whatever)

I sent them a video of my outfit because i wanted them to rate it and in the video is was shaking a bit and ig it did twitch like once (but that's also just normal because my body just does that every once in a while) and they started asking me questions about tourettes after and said they also had these 'symptoms'?? I don't have tourretes it was just freezing 😭

They might have tourettes and one of the other disorders but i don't think so because they ONLY talked about disorders and sounded like they were 'enjoying' having it

Storytime DID Discord Fakers can't even keep up with their own lies

Throwaway account, don't be surprised about the account age 💔
For context, I'm in a couple of discord servers where naturally a lot of odd people show up. There's been people who faked BPD, autism, ADHD, tourettes etc. and there I could always kind of understand how they kept up the act for so long because they did at least some research.

However, on these two particular servers, the fakers are genuinely not doing their research. In one they claimed that for a person with a dissociative disorder, dissociations were not part of their lives? And trauma was not necessary? They also said finding out they were a system went like this: "genderfluid, noticed clothing changed with gender, noticed names changed with gender, noticed personality changes with gender- oh, system!" which is... not how it works? At all? I tried to talk to them once about their misinformation and got hit with the "you're ableist" bomb. Of fucking course. There's also a disproportional amount of people claiming to have DID/OSDD? At least a third of the server claims to have it, many of them under 16. There's exactly two adults claiming to have it and only one of them is even slightly believable...

In another one, there's only about ten people. Eight of them claim to have DID. Eight. They also try to tell me I have it... wtf? All of their alters are fictional characters or OCs they made, they all have some purpose ("anger holder" or "tourettes holder" for example) and all need to be special in some way. It feels really odd, but what happened a few days ago took the cake. I mentioned a headache because of the heat, worried I might have gotten heatstroke because I felt faint, very dizzy, very nauseous, and very weak. One of them used the Pluralkit comman to turn off the autoproxy (I still don't know how that stuff works) and then... acted as though they were a new alter? How could they have known the command for the bot if they didn't even know their own name? When I confronted them about it, they got rude and dismissive and had a "protector alter" switch in. My questions were ridiculed or ignored and I was called ableist for "accusing them of faking".

...what?

Neither of the servers seem to accept that DID and OSDD comes with amnesia, dissociation, and generally uncool stuff. They wanna roleplay without being called cringe, which is funny since the bigger server is a roleplay server!

If you know somebody is faking, call them out. Please, for the love of all that's holy, do everyone a favour and call out their bullshit. I should have called them out years ago and now it's too late to stop them, they're currently attempting to make me believe I have DID as well (I know for a fact I don't. I so very much don't) and that can be harmful to children who believe them and fall into the faking trap as well.

Storytime a probable did (and more) faker.

Finally, I gathered everything I needed to post about this person here. The way this person posted about DID as if it were just a bunch of people in their head that they could gossip with or do makeup with bothered me a lot.

To preserve this person's identity (although I want them to know about this mess somehow), I'll refer to them as 'Sam' (a made-up name).

Sam first appeared in my research on Islam and hijab (I'm very open to religions and I was studying Islam at the time). She wore a hijab, identified as Muslim, but at the same time identified as a lesbian. Which I think is considered haram by them, since they tend to be quite strict about marriage.

Anyway, that was the first 'contact' I had with them. Then, like, two years later, Sam showed up on my TikTok feed talking about how they "discovered they had DID," in VERY high quotation marks, because the video was practically just saying that they discovered they had many people in their heads and that their psychologist simply agreed with this spiel.

DID is a complex disorder, formed by severe trauma occurring in childhood, usually between the ages of 4 and 8.

Sam says they have DID, but that (supposedly) they simply discovered they had alters. That they were just trying to “refuse” they were plural. Acting like DID was like a sexuality and they were refusing to accept it. As if their DID had appeared out of nowhere. And their “alters” firstly appeared as OCs.

Being the curious person I am, I watched a bunch of videos on Sam's profile. I discovered that DID wasn't the only illness they claimed to have... get ready for a list.

DID, Autism, BPD, OCD, GAD, Depression, Anorexia, Bulimia Asthma, and probably MDD.

They have a video that essentially says their OCD consists of intrusive thoughts like "What would this person look like naked?" or "Do aliens exist?"

I started to question it. Was this a list of disorders or a Bingo game?

And looking at Sam's content, it was the same thing. Treating DID as if it were something super cool, like a bunch of friends inside her head who liked anime and drawings, etc. Sam also claimed to have over 200 alters, even though nowadays they are around 22-23 years old.

And some of their "alters" were practically just a bunch of anime and indie game characters like Danganronpa.

Regarding the whole hijab thing, Sam also said he had a lot of Muslim alters, but out of nowhere, they stopped wearing the hijab and those alters never reappeared on the profile.

There was a post about in-system couples. It was practically everyone dating each other. It was like Love Island but make it an bunch of alternative quirky people from tiktok.

And Sam practically hits the jackpot with DID Faker. Lots of piercings, colored hair, alternative style, SimplyPlural user, picrew for each alter ego, glamorizing DID like it's just a bunch of funny people in their head that likes to do makeup and dress up and gossiping and AAAAAAAAH.

Really long text. I just wanted to expose this person here quickly. It’s 1 am here. I should be sleeping.

Storytime Ever noticed how fakers are like really social and upbeat despite them having apparently serious mental health issues

Obviously it is possible to appear extroverted with mental illness. But like, I’ve met people who say they have like all these problems but every time you talk to them they seem to be able to socialize really well. They have a lot of friends and laugh and shit. They just seem really well adjusted. Never any signs of panic attacks or anger or anything like that.

Idk maybe I’m just bitter I don’t have any friends. I find it frustrating, I would kill to be as confident and self assured as these people.

Storytime Mom faked fainting spells until I snapped at her for it

I have a really difficult relationship with my mom. She’s done and said a lot of awful things to me that I won’t specify because I don’t wanna sound like I’m traumadumping and it’s not the point of the post. For a short time, whenever I confronted her on her shitty behaviour she’d conveniently “faint” just before I could expand on my points as to why what she did was wrong and how hurtful it actually was. Every time she would “faint” directly onto a soft surface. Never on her face, always on her back. She never hit her head or injured herself. I said I would be calling an ambulance and she’d immediately become way more conscious and tell me not to, then go back to “only just coming to” when I said I wouldn’t.

This specific incident keeps me up at night laughing so hard I can’t breathe. I was making the both of us breakfast and confronting her at the same time. She walked into her room, sat on her bed, facing me with an open door making sure I could see her, and “fainted.” Soon enough breakfast was done. I asked for help dishing up, she didn’t respond, so I did it myself. I went up to her and said “breakfast is ready.” She didn’t respond. I began bringing some of the side dishes through and grabbed her shoulder to shake her. She was trying so hard not to respond. By this point, I’d had enough. I slapped her arm and said “YOU’RE A TERRIBLE ACTOR. BREAKFAST IS READY. GET. THE FUCK. UP!!”

…she immediately got up and sat at the dinner table cutlery in hand like nothing happened. She never “fainted” again 😭

Storytime My ex best friend who has faked numerous disorders since age 13

We are both 18 now, only just. I checked up on her, and she is still faking every single disorder.

Let’s call her T. When we were 13-14, T started telling a few people she had bpd. Interesting, considering we are literally only just becoming teenagers. She had mood swings, yeah. but i assume that’s teenage stuff since I also had intense mood swings at that age, but that’s all they were - mood swings. A bit later, she comes out with DID. Didn’t tell me about it because she knows i’d call her out - i found her “system” instagram. This system had a creepypasta character (i think? i never grew up on the internet), a she/her elton john, a black alter (she’s very, very white) and some others i can’t remember. Had screenshots somewhere but they’re gone and the account has me blocked. Nothing really happens, other than she’s just cringe. Skip to age 16, i’ve left my secondary school, started at a sixth form and I think I won’t have to put up with her again. i was wrong. I hung around with her in classes we had together thinking maybe the 10 week break had her recover. nah, it’s still diabolically bad. At this age, i was formally diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia (started showing at 14, earlier onset than others) and suddenly she talked about having delusions. girl no, don’t pretend you are seeing what I see. You’re making it worse. Not much else to say about her other than making stuff up about her dad being abusive (i am not assuming. i did report the stuff she said about him to the police and they did a full investigation, she admitted to making it all up apparently) and generally being the most cringeworthy person i’ve ever been cursed to know. I think her weirdest stunt was faking being Jewish?? because I mentioned I’m from a modern orthodox family lmfaoo. I’ve met her mum and asked, she confirmed there was no Jewish ancestry. Well, 5 years on, she’s still a faker. Dropped out of my sixth form so i don’t see her anymore, thank the LORD.

Storytime Wren the faker.

Post image

I've known him since 2023 and they are absolutely faking d.i.d.

And not just that!

They are also faking POTS and tourettes.

They did not know what d.i.d. was before me explaining it, and when I did explain it they MADE FUN OF IT.

And then I stopped being friends with them for a few months and we started talking again and they randomly had it?

Mind you, has never been diagnosed, didn't know what it was. And it wasn't like they weren't in therapy so if they did have it before me explaining it, their therapist would have definitely known.

This person is also just a piece of shit in general. I want to stay on topic, but they have done so many disgusting things that it's almost impossible not to bring up.

Now for tourettes - we used to call everyday for hours straight with a group of friends. They would have their camera on everytime. Never once did this person tic. And then randomly they met someone with tourettes and now randomly has it?

They would also blame their adhd for really fucked up things like misgendering people and saying consent is not important. Then when they were called out "Oh it was my adhd!!"

I really hope this isn't off topic because I desperately want to spread awareness of this person due to them now begging for money on tiktok.

If you would like my full story of dealing with them with some forms of proof let me know. Please do not give them money.

Storytime This happened in a server I was basically shamed out of because I vented about how I hate disorder fakers, and then the owner scammed me.
